Then, Isagi cups Rin’s cheeks in that same lovable palm, thumb drifting softly over skin, and whispers, “We should die here—where there’s no one. Abandon everything.”
Even in the mouth of death, Rin still carries desire—for one last time, he wants to taste Isagi’s floral cruelty, fermenting against him like grape wine—too unperishable. There is only one world in which he wants Isagi, and it is this one.
“Yeah,” Rin agrees—and mirrors him, cupping Isagi’s cheek with his own unlovable palm. He is holding the sun at its most burning, the ocean curved into the wounded face of the moon with all its craters and whirlpools, and he dives into the metallic-blue maw. “Let’s die here.”
From this small, small world, Rin's mouth fills in an anemic blue sky, and the lips of Isagi.
