Chapter 1: Bad Premonitions

Chapter Text

Alex and I were sitting, as we often did, in our deck chairs on the rooftop terrace of Chase Space. Several weeks had passed since our mission to stop Ragnarök. He took my hand and held it for a while, and I smiled at him. "Don't get any ideas, Chase."What we had still wasn't official, and I often wished it were, but with Alex, you had to be flexible and patient. "I won't," I paused, and finally asked, "So, what's going on between us?" He stared at me with his amber-brown eyes. I was afraid he'd murder me with his Garrette, and since we were in Midgard, I'd stay dead, which wasn't exactly what I was looking for. "Magnus," he began, "I really like you, even if you're sometimes a bit of an idiot, but can I please sleep on it?" "I'm only an idiot sometimes," I said with a surprised expression. Alex grinned. "Caught you." Suddenly, I noticed something had changed about Alex. I asked, "She/her?" Alex nodded and stood up from her deck chair. "I'm going back. Are you coming with me?" “I looked at her in surprise.” “Yes, where to?” “To Valhalla, you idiot.”
I knew that should be obvious to me, but Alex often made it hard to concentrate because I was distracted by her beauty.
She must have noticed me staring because she snapped me back to reality with a "Don't stare like that, Chase."

Arriving in Valhalla, I said goodbye to Alex and wished her goodnight.

As I was getting changed, I had a strange feeling that something was wrong with Alex.

So I made my way to Alex's room, which was next to mine. I heard voices talking. I knocked, but no one answered. "Alex!" I called, and when I opened the door, Alex was lying in bed, snoring. I told myself that everything was fine and that I was worrying too much.

I still couldn't sleep. The next morning, I went to breakfast completely exhausted, but Alex wasn't there. Halfborn grumbled, "Morning, Magnus." "Where's Alex?" I asked instead of saying good morning. Samira approached me and looked at me with concern, probably because there was panic in my voice. "What happened, Magnus?" "Probably nothing, I just have a bad feeling." "Then you'd better go and see," Mallory Keen chimed in. "You should always listen to your gut." "I'll come with you," Samira said
