Today was a special day; it was what North liked to call “Guardian bonding day.” Oh, how bunnymund disliked this day; he hated the coddling. He'd much rather be home in his warren, painting and drinking green tea. Toothiana, on the other hand, liked it quite a lot. The guardians got to relax and socialize, Sandy was not bothered, but his social battery always runs low. Jack was floating around and jumping through the rafters or hiding behind the yetis, giving them a gentle freeze. Jack didn't understand the concept of bonding, but he didn't mind; he really enjoyed North's building. It was warm and gentle and nice to hear and talk to everyone who could see him, finally. North started showing off, just like he would at a typical event; North had pulled out his swords, ready to entertain the guardians. Jack noticed how sharp the swords were. He was still in the rafters, looking down at the showcase by North as he was surrounded by the other guardians. Suddenly, a bright glare went directly into Jack's eyes; it was from the shiny swords. “Awg.” Jack made a tiny noise as he quickly went to cover his eyes and formed to move back; his foot slipped.
The other guardians shifted their gaze over the younger guardian who had fallen with a thud. Jack tried not make a big deal, so even under the worried gazes of the other guardians, he stood up, rubbed his head, and let out a laugh. He smoothly went and kicked up his staff, making it land back in his hand; Jack wanted to wince, he was having waves of pain, but not so bad that he couldn't hide it.
“Sweet tooth, are you okay?” Toothiana asked as Jack walked over with his typical grin
“Yeah, that was a nasty fall.” bunnymund added. He looked semi-concerned.
“I'm good, I fall outa trees all the time.” Jack shoved his hands in his pockets while reassuring them he was okay.
“Alright lad, wanna watch me and my epic sword skills!” North had said it more like a statement than a question, “yeah, sure.” Jack said just to be polite
After a few minutes of North practicing on some moving targets he had made for a christmas one year; he had realized something. All of the guardians have a weapon and know hand to hand combat, well beside for one; Jack. Bunnymund had his boomerangs and could easily do hand to hand combat especially with his bunny warrior figure; he had been trained to fight. Toothiana was a master with dual scimitar-basically a sword, also the fairy knew how to punch. Sandman had his whips which he can always summon anytime need be or even his plane or anything he wanted really, North obviously had swords and while being an extremely big man, he also had experience. Now… what did jack have? A staff that he can swing ice and frost out of, that was okay but was it enough? Presumably if he didn't have his staff or it was damaged could he even do anything; or would he just be a normal scrawny boy with white hair and blue eyes? North decided now was a good time to teach jack some combat skills. “Hey lad, we should train you how to use swords!” North said looking at Jack.
Jack pointed at himself in confusion and concern, he wasn't quite sure he could even hold a sword with how small his frame was.
“HA, no no no. We aint letting that show pony get a sword, he might hurt himself or us, he probably doesn't even know how to swing it, it will fly out of his hand and hit one of us in the eye!” Bunnymund explained, of course Bunnymund didn't want Jack to hold a sword, he honestly thought the bugger was careless.
Okay… Well challenge expected! Jack was now extremely determined to show off with a sword, to be fair he's never held anything but his staff.
“What do you say boy?” North asked, ignoring Bunnymund's words.
“Uh..” Jack thought about it for a second, there was one time where pitch got ahold of his staff and broke it over his knee. Jack could use his power without it but it doesn't typically go well, it's too sporadic and uncontrolled. Maybe it was time to try another thing? “Yeah sure” That was the last thing Jack had said before all the guardians minus north decided to back up. North chucked the sword at Jack by the handle, North failed to realize the fact that catching the sword would be extremely hard for a beginner; it was too late before North realized his mistake. Jack was scared but his body seemed to react on its own, catching the sword perfectly in a battle stance, Jack hadn't even realized, he was more focused on how the guardians quickly tensed up when North had thrown the sword now then they let out a sigh of relief.
“North you can't just throw that!” Bunnymund told the man. Sandy joined in putting a bunch of symbols over his head
“We are very lucky he caught it.” Toothiana added.
“Sorry my boy! Amazing catch though!” North said. Jack, feeling everyone's gaze he tried to relax his body with the sword in hand ‘gosh this is heavy’ he had thought to himself. “Jackie, have you ever used a sword before? Any experience?” North had asked, after seeing the way Jack had caught it he had to have some experience, with honestly any sword like weapon.
“Never held one in my life from what I can remember” Jack stated with sweat dripping down his brow.
“Okay well maybe we should see if you have uh, da beginners luck?” North started getting in a low stance ready to charge at Jack and see what this immortal teen could do.
“Oh this is going to go horribly” Bunnymund sighed and put his muzzle in his paws. Toothiana and Sandy were holding onto each other basically acting like the “oh i cant look” parents when their kid is in a dangerous situation and they cannot do anything about it.
North came charging at Jack, not actually planning to hit him but to instead knock him down and or clash swords. “Let's see if you have good defenses, boy!”
‘Oh im gonna die’ Jack thought to himself, the sword was already heavy enough as it was. Jack started to try and move the sword but then Jack slipped again; in this short moment of falling Jack had shifted the sword's position in his hands and frost seemed to coat his hands and the weapon sorta like a bracer for holding it and reinforcing. Jack quickly landed his feet saving himself from falling and smoothly moved, blocking north's sword with his; But of course north is way stronger then jack so he throws the boy back a tiny bit with the swords clashing. This continued for a while but Jack got increasingly faster, swinging the sword like it was mussel memory, his movements were swift and smooth. As more time went on the more swings and jabs jack was hitting, honestly it felt like he just had warmed up. Jack was above a person who never swung a sword, his skills were amazing… like he had done this for centuries. *Clash* North's sword had been hit out of his hand by jacks. “Oh uhm-” Jack started stammering after realizing all eyes were on him, he was really not used to this level of attention. Now he was definitely in for it his whole face flushed red- blue, definitely blue; What an odd quirk.
“Jack… how did you do that?” Toothiana asked, shocked.
“I d-didnt- i dont k-know” Jack dropped his sword. *clash* as it hit the ground.
“Mate you are shockingly good at that” Bunnymund had commented.
‘O-oh’ Praise and attention? This might just be the death of Jack Frost. Jack's whole body stiffened, getting progressively a bit more blue.
“Yeah my boy! Dat was amazing!” North added with a loud proud laugh and smile towards Jack. “You gave me quite the run for my money!”
More praise? Oh yeah Jacks done for.
“How?” Bunnymund asked looking at Jack suspiciously “how did you manage that? You said you never held a sword before.” Bunnymund commanded Jack to tell him.
“I- My body moved on it own, I didn't- I don't remember holding a sword, or any weapon for that matter” Jack managed to push through his embarrassment.
Sandy started to form symbols over his head, of a strong looking arm and what looks like a brain. “Mussle memory?” Toothiana muttered. The next shapes formed by sandy looked like light radiating off of something plugged into the wall. “Uh shine- bright?” Bunnymund throughout some guesses.
“Nightlight?” Jack questioned.
“Nightlight?- OH NIGHTLIGHT” North yelled, acting like he just discovered something amazing. “Are you saying Jack's skills remind you of nightlight’s?” North asked.
“Whos-?” Jack tried to ask but bunnymund answered for him
“Old… old friend, we can talk about it another time. Memories are too hard to relive right now” Bunnymind answered with a sadder tone, very unusual for the big rabbit who seemed to have a heart of stone unless around a certain blonde girl with big green eyes, he was very soft when it came to Sophie.
Toothiana, changing the tone, started to say why possibly Jack could have mussel memory with a sword. “Sometimes, the body remembers when the mind doesn't, you still have yet to get all of your memories back Jack. Maybe sometime this month we could go look at your tooth box again and review it?” Everyone was a little suspicious of that answer, realistically jack seemed like he'd been swinging around a sword for longer than a possible human life he had lived, he had the skills of a warrior. Everyone seemed to just be satisfied with the fact that maybe Jack just didn't remember and trained really hard in his human life- now that they think about it none of them really know where Jack came from, best to bring it up some other time.
“Yeah sure” Jack felt toothiana’s hand on his shoulder and they both gave each other a small smile. The Guardians continued with “Guardian bonding day” and continued back to what they were originally doing, everyone was just contempt for now with each other's presence.
