Chapter Text
Chris eyeballed the clock in the classroom while he fiddled with his dark hair. It felt like torture waiting for the clock to strike 2:30. Chris and his friends, Kiki, Ivan, Ari, and Norah were gonna have an epic slumber party together to kick off the winter break! It’ll be an epic 3 days and two nights of pure junk food, Christmas movies, epic video games, and awesome all-nighters, till Christmas Day , as today is the 23rd. And it would all be at Ari’s huge house! He was so excited, that he’d mistaken the last 2 end-of-the-period-bells as the final school bell of the day. “Come onnn… Just hit the thirtyyy!” he muttered under his breath, in his think Indian accent, but of course, even a mutter was loud enough for the teacher, Mrs. Knackro to hear.
“Mr. Kumar!” the teacher asserted. Which made Chris crack his neck to face her. She interjected again. “We still have thirty minutes left, turn your head to the board! We will have an exam after the break!” Chris cringed at the thought of an exam right after Christmas break. And based on the murmurs and rants that he heard after the awful statement, the rest of the class had the same opinion as he did.
‘Duddde.” he simply let out. “Not epic” Thirty more minutes.
—
Chris wasn't the only one who was extra hyped. Kiki could hardly stay still. She kept shaking her legs and giggling uncontrollably in excitement. Ari noticed it too.
“OMG, OMG!! Hehe! I am soooo PUMPED! I can’t wait for this sleepover! Eeee!” Kiki exclaimed to Ari, the thought of the party making her grin extra wide, making the lip gloss on her plump lips extra shiny. Kiki wasn't gonna calm down. But Ari thought Kiki looked cute when she was excited. “Oh snap! I can’t even control myself!” Kiki realized. She took some deep breaths before talking again. “Ok, much more calm…I always get so excited when we do the Christmas sleepover! I can’t believe we’ve been doing it since 9th grade!”
“I know right! This is only my second time doing it with you guys though, yall have been doing it since you were in like…6th grade. Ari confessed. Her and Kiki planned on doing their hair, nails, and makeup together. It was supposed to be Kiki, Ari, and Norah, but Norah said she didn’t like doing her nails and makeup. It was gonna be girls time for all three of them but, whatever, Ari thought. She was so glad that Kiki was excited to hang out together.
“I can’t wait to do nails with you! It’ll be so fetch!” Kiki beamed, her brown eyes wide. Ari thought that the best feature on her golden dark face were her brown eyes, especially when she was happy or excited.
“Me too! I already have some colors picked out for us, but if you want to go to that beauty store we like, we can get more!” Ari told Kiki.
—
“Happy-” Once the bell rang, students dashed out of their classrooms and ran to the nearest staircase or hallway they could use to get out of the building. The teacher hardly had a chance to say “Happy Holidays" to them. “Ok fine!” One teacher said, “Yeah I hope I have a Merry Christmas too.”
—
At 5 o’clock, everyone was at Ari’s house. They each brought some snacks, blankets and other things with them for the sleepover.
“Yoo! This is about to be epic!” Chris jumped, already in his pjs. He was the first one there.
“Yeah…we know that. You rushed out of the school and ran to my house, me and Kiki weren’t even there yet.” Ari said. Exposing Chris.
Kiki chimed in. “You’re cray cray.” Her face looked slightly concerned, with her lips in a mini frown.
“Of course! I’m cray cray.” Chris said back. He rolled his eyes and walked into the kitchen to put the chips he’s got on the counter. Everyone else did the same with the snacks they brought.
—
“Ok! Everyone is here…” She stood with her hip to the right. (your right) and had her hand on it, as she used her left hand to move it as she talked. Ari counted quietly. “Ivan, Kiki, Chris, Norah…Ok bien! So here are the rules.” She heard everyone groan as she said that, but ignored it and continued. “I assume everyone said hello to my parents, and mi abuela?” She looked at them intently, her friends were sitting across from her on the sofa in the living room. Ari doesn't like when her guests don’t say hello to her family. Her parents always taught her to do that. She watched as everyone nodded their heads. “Ok great!” She began to walk left and right. Before ultimately returning to a more neutral standing position. “So we’ve been here before. Today is more of a chill day, we don't have to do much, you know? School just ended, finish up work from any nasty teachers, alone time even, etc.”
“Please.” Ivan said. “You know how AP teachers just love to give work.” He said nonchalantly. With his default tired look on his face. He exhaled. “Especally Mr. and Mrs. Knackro, they’re just made for each other.” he explained as he slowly shook his head.
“Right? I'm not sure why she can't ease down on the work like…ever! And she’s quite rude to my mum.” Norah confessed, her eyes closing as she crossed her arms. Everyone else agreed.
“Exactly why this is an off day. So no all-nighters.” Ari stated.
“Yeah, I'll speak on me and Chris’s behalf when I say, not even we wanna do that. And we’re like, killer all-nighters.” Kiki nodded her head as if she was agreeing with her own statement. And Chris nodded his head as well.
“Yeah ok no more interruptions! We remember the format of the house, girls will slumber with me, Ivan and Chris hog the guest room, and no one dares to try and talk to my siblings. And if you somehow manage to find them out of their room.” Ari’s eyes widened as her face looked…tramatized…? She spoke chillingly. “Run…” her eyes stared into the souls of her friends, before quickly shifting back to her normal demeanor ok that’s it! I'm heading to my room.”
—
Chris and Ivan were done settling their things in their bedroom. And Chris noticed Ivan taking out his laptop. And shook his head while his friend walked to the desk at the end of the room. ‘Of course he’s doing his homework, what a nerd.’ he rolled his eyes. And sat on the bed. Ivan looked back at him.
“You’re not gonna do your homework?” Ivan asked
“As if!” Chris replied. “You know me. I wait till the end of the break to do that. Have fun now, be bored later.” He smiled before looking down at his phone, then frowned as his parents texted him, again. Anytime Chris hung out with his friends, he had to check in with his parents literally every hour he was awake, and before he went to bed, to tell them he went to bed, so that they didn’t worry about him. Although, sometimes he would lie and say he went to bed before pulling an all-nighter with his friends. “My parents finally gifted me with a phone, and I never woulda thought I would be using it so much for texting my parents.” Chris said out loud.
“At least they’ll stop calling the house phone every hour like they used to.” Ivan responded back.
—
Kiki, Norah, and Ari were all in Ari's room. Ari was taking out all the clips in her hair, and placing them back in her box of accessories. “So…What are we gonna do guys?” Kiki asked. Staring at Ari still organizing her hair clips, then at Norah who was blankly picking her nails.
“Hold on…I just need to put these away in my closet.” Ari said. Kiki shrugged and looked around the room, she was crisscrossed at the edge of Ari’s pink bed. Her and Ari have gotten very close since Ari joined the squad, so Kiki has been in her house many times. As her mind started to wander off, Kiki thought about when they became friends.

8th grade social.- 2 years ago
Kiki was in the bathroom, trying to fix her hair and make-up. “Oh no…Those stupid dudes messed up my look! I don’t understand why they gotta be so mean, I aint do nothing to em.” Kiki's worried face looked into the mirror. Zade, Bryn, and Conan, the three annoying boys who “accidently” splashed punch all over her, and then Conan had the good bright audacity to say, “Whatever, Cry baby.” after she told them to apologize. Kiki began crying in the mirror. “Ugh… I'm always such a cry baby… they’re right!” She sobbed hysterically, unable to stop the tears.
Ari was in the bathroom stall when she heard Kiki crying. “Hey?” Ari said from the stall, causing her to pause. Ari came out of the bathroom when she saw Kiki. “What’s wrong? What happened?” Ari jumped up slightly when Kiki jerked her head back, her mascara clearly messed up by her tears. “No way! Kiki? From science class? What happened to you? Why are you crying?”
Kiki huffed and puffed before she could speak again. “Th-the boys…they thr-ew…punch all…o-over me.” She managed to get out. Her eyes and mouth made the worst sad face the Ari’s ever seen.
“What? Who would do-...You know what…we’ll worry about them later.” Ari scrambled in her purse to take out some wipes, lip gloss, and mascara. “Let’s fix you up, will that make you feel better?” Ari questioned calmly, she watched Kiki nod her head “yes”.
“Ok! All done! How do you like it?”
“It’s sweet! Thank you so much, Ari!” Kiki responded. She jumped in for a hug and it startled Ari and first. But she gave in and hugged her back. Kiki was left smiling when she pulled away. Then she looked at her dress. “Oh shoot…my dress is still messy…” Kiki recognized.
“Oh it’s fine! Plus, orange and white look good on you girl! Come on! Let’s get back out there, I’ll stay with you the whole time!” Promised Ari.
Kiki smiled at those words. “Pinky promise?” Kiki asked back.
“Pinky promise.” Ari reassured Kiki.
—
Kiki and Ari walked out the bathroom, and both decided to go to the Chocolate fondue stand, they stuffed their faces with smores.
“Well, I thought you were gonna stay in the bathroom forever!” Came an irritating voice, Conan, the middle school bully, and his 2 little minions were right behind him.
Kiki was ready to walk the other way when Ari grabbed her hand. “We are not letting them totally ruin our time.” Ari noted, and she walked up to those boys, who had a smile plastered on their faces. She whipped her golden brown hair back and made a stank face. “Listen, you complete idiotas. Yo no sé what’s gotten into you, or what made you guys even think of the bright idea to splash punch on mi amiga’s outfit!” Ari blurted out, mixing her first language in her sentences, which is something she does when she’s mad. “I'm sure you don’t realize, but…I guess that's normal, since y'all are sooo dense. But how you guys are acting…”
She put her fingers in front of their slightly shocked faces. And made a “finger list” as she talked. And Kiki watched behind her. “It’s not funny, it’s not cool, and it sure ain’t sweet.” she stated. Jerking her face closer to the boys. “It’s just rude, nasty, and you look and act like nothing but a big fat bully!”
“Ohhhh!” yelled some people that Ari nor Kiki had noticed, they seemed to let themselves get entertained by the convo that was happening.
“Nah! Ain’t no way you got burned by a Mexican!” some random shouted.
“Im not Mexican! I'm puertorriqueña! Get it right or you’re next.” She threatened. She smirked at the boys who were now left completely shocked from Ari’s words. She chuckled before turning back to Kiki.
“Woah…you are so awesome!” Kiki Complimented. Her eyes sparkling.
“Yeah I know, totally sick. Come on, this party ain’t over yet!” Ari encouraged. The two giggled before heading to the dance floor.
—
Kiki giggled at the thought of the start of their friendship. Just then, Ari came out of the closet door. “Sorry it took so long! I tend to get caught up in organizing my stuff.” She looked around and noticed that Norah had left the room, and Kiki noticed that Ari noticed.
“...I didn’t even notice she left the room, I was spaced out!” Kiki confessed.
“Eh it’s fine, she probably went to get a snack, or hang out with the boys.” She put her finger on her chin, not too concerned about Norah. But she shrugged it off and skipped to Kiki who was still on the bed. “Ok! So, what do you wanna do?”
