    Summary

"...it never felt fair to ask anyone to be my partner while I was still half in the closet.”

    Crowley shrugged a shoulder. “Admirable."

“Do you think so? I am glad. I thought it might have been stupid of me.” He felt his face warm and he flicked a glance at his glass, considering the level of the sherry. This wasn’t the man he’d come here to meet, he reminded himself. This wasn’t a date.

“Didn’t say it wasn’t stupid,” Crowley drawled, that tug at the corner of his sardonic mouth twitching again. He leaned forward then, his neck stretching as he leant his chin on his hand. “No rule saying something can’t be two things at once.”

    Crowley would know.

    . . .
Middle aged dating is a nightmare. Nobody Erelah met had sent any excitement racing up his spine. It was his luck that the one man that piqued his interest was one who had rescued him from a date going wrong, and said man didn’t seem to have any interest in anything but friendship. Well, he supposed he would take what he could get.

Anthony Crowley has his own reasons for not dating. Expectations vs reality were too far apart in his experience, and he desperately doesn't want to disappoint anyone, especially his new friend.
