Chapter Text

The full moons started the same way every month. He would roll out of bed after a restless night of no sleep. Joints aching and a faint headache forming. His roommates would tiptoe around, getting ready before Peter would knock something over making a loud clash causing Remus to black out for a couple seconds before Sirius started screaming at Peter for being an incompetent idiot. On this particular morning, Peter had knocked over a stack of books, a cauldron and a whole trunk.

After that followed breakfast. Usually remus ate enough for half of gryfindoor tower but on full moons, he had something small like toast, knowing he would be throwing it up again in a few hours time. After that began the harrowing journey to his next class. His body would be screaming at him to stop and lie down but he forced it to keep climbing the staircase. In class, the marauders would form a protective barrier around him, James in front, Peter behind and Sirius by his side. Sirius would always try and keep his mind constantly busy, knowing the dangers of being left to his own devices.

Remus spent most of lunch in the dormitory toilets, throwing up. James would then promptly try and convince him to go to madame pomfrey but every time he failed, remus already knowing the amount of work he was going to miss out on. His faint headache having turned into a pounding migraine at this point.

He would hurry through his next couple of classes before hobbling along to the hospital wing, accompanied by one of the marauders. They had a rotating schedule for walking him along, Remus would never tell them but he hated the schedule. It made him feel like a little kid, or a particularly grueling chore.

On James months, the boy would ramble on about quidditch, trying to ignore the elephant in the room. On peters months, they would walk along in silence while Peter fidgeted and awkwardly mumbled an apology about this mornings fiasco. On Sirius months however, they would have a somewhat pleasant conversation, as pleasant as conversation can get when you are moments away from morphing into a vicious monster. Sirius never avoided the topic like James did, he faced it straight on. That was the Sirius black way. He didn't go silent either, he would always try to discuss Remus's pain, anxiety and feelings. Remus found it bloody annoying and would always try and snap back, but Sirius had grown accustomed to remuses moods and would always remain playful and joyous no matter what Remus said or did. In the end, remus would always join in the discussion, after all it was hard to say no to Sirius, very hard.

"On a scale from 1 to 10" Sirius said as they hobbled along to the hospital wing "how bad is your pain?" Remus rolled his eyes
"I'm not going to 'rate my pain'" he said (it was an eight but he couldn't tell Sirius that!) "Why not" Sirius said pouting. "Because it's stupid!" Remus said. "No it's not" Sirius exclaimed "it's just saying a number to describe how much your body hurts before you go through the most painful things known to mankind!". Remus scowled, he didn't want to say eight as he didn't want to seem weak but if he said 6 Sirius would know he was lying. Sirius always knew when he was lying. He settled on 7. "Probably about a seven" as if on cue, his body let out a protest to show it was not in fact a seven. He let out a groan and paused. Sirius stopped too and let out a sigh "your lying moony". Sirius placed an arm around remuses waist to support him and remus felt a flutter in his stomach. They continued moving. "I know things are bad right now moony" Sirius said. "No it's actually really great right now" Remus replied, putting more anger than he intended into it. Sirius Let out a smile "Let me Finnish" he said, smiling that Sirius black grin, "but things are going to get better, trust me" his eyes were twinkling. "ok" Remus said, he didn't believe Sirius but he would trust the world with him. They had reached the hospital wing doors at this point. Remus put his whole body into opening the doors.

"see you tomorrow I guess"

"We will be up to check on you, all three of us, in the morning"
Remus nodded, his headache had become to painful to form actual words "Really, don't worry moony. Things are getting good, I can feel it" Remus was to tired and sore to put up an argument.
