Work Text:
“I was the one who killed Avid.”
Those words made Scott freeze.
He had known Pyro had never liked Avid, had even despised him at one point. Everyone had. But murder—unauthorized, Acting alone, ignoring the boundaries and rules imposed within the coven, especially in the middle of a war? That was unthinkable. Scott was shocked, to say the least.
Scott could feel the fury boil in his chest and beneath it, something worse, disappointment.
Pyro stood straight, chin lifted, eyes burning with something that wasn’t remorse. looking down at his superior—at his sire. For the first time, he felt untouchable, powerful in a way he never had before. The expression on Scott’s face was priceless.
Shelby stood frozen nearby, hollow-eyed, lookind utterly shattered to the point she couldn’t even bear to look at Scott or anyone in general.
Pyro enjoyed that.
Scott excused himself moments later, his face with deap conflict. Pyro followed, fully expecting punishment after all, Scott’s feelings for that “liability” had never exactly been subtle.
“Why did you act on your own?” he asked, his voice calm, almost terrifying.
“He was a liability” Pyro said. “One that needed to be dealt with.”
“That’s not what I asked.” Scott turned slowly to face him. “I’ll ask again and don’t make me repeat myself. Why did you act alone?”
For the first time, Pyro’s confidence wavered
“I thought-” He swallowed. “I knew he was a liability, Owen and I took the opportunity to erase him.”
“So you both thought reducing our coven’s numbers in the middle of a war with humans was acceptable?”
“He was useless-”
“Save your excuses” Scott snapped. “I won’t listen to someone who endangered us all.”
He turned to leave.
Then he stopped.
“I’m beginning to suspect” he said quietly, “that you were the liability all along and you know what happens to those.”
Something in Pyro broke.
He grabbed Scott and slammed him into the wall, pinning him there with feral strength.
“What do you think you’re-”
Pyro kissed him it wasn’t tender. It was desperate, violent, claiming. A demand disguised as affection.
For a split second, Scott was too stunned to react. Then he shoved Pyro away and struck him across the face.
“YOU DARE-” Scott roared, barely restraining himself. The only reason he didn’t drive a stake through Pyro’s heart was the coming battle and Shelby’s feelings, even if he doubted she cared anymore after Pyro killed her fledgling.
Pyro barely reacted to the blow. He surged forward again, clutching Scott like a drowning man.
“I DON’T UNDERSTAND” he shouted. “After everything I’ve done for you, you still chose him.”
“I gave you everything” Pyro continued, voice cracking. “My Friends, my humanity, my morals. I became what you needed and you still chose the one who accused you, tried to kill you, and threw you away.”
“So you admit this was foolish jealousy” Scott said coldly. “How disappointingly predictable.”
“Yes!” Pyro snapped. “Because i ruined myself for you, i did everything for you and you still played around with a liability like him!”
“That ‘liability’ was more loyal and more caring than you ever were, all you’ve done is conspire with humans behind my back.”
“At least I don’t act affectionate with my supposed enemy!”
“He wasn’t our enemy anymore,” Scott growled. “He was on our side, and you weakened us because you couldn’t stand not being chosen.”
Pyro tightened his grip, adrenaline making him stronger than Scott expected.
“Let go” Scott warned. “Now.”
Pyro hesitated, then released him.
“I won’t take responsibility for what you’ve done,” Scott said, opening the door. “But remember this: fate will make sure you pay for it.”
The door slammed.
Pyro stood alone, shaking.
He had done the right thing… hadn’t he?
Avid was a liability. Scott was blinded by emotion. Pyro was right.
…Right?
.
.
.
“Fate will make sure you pay for it.”
Those words echoed in Pyro’s mind as he ran, running from Shelby.
She was feral with rage, thirsting for vengeance.
“SHELBY, STOP!” Pyro shouted desperately. “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT SCOTT WILL DO TO YOU!”
He stumbled and crashed to the floor.
“HE’S GOING TO BE FURIOUS—”
Shelby was faster. Pinning him down effortlessly.
“Oh, ¡Scott is gonna be glad!” she said smugly, drawing a stake and pressing it over his heart.
As Pyro lay there as Scott’s words replayed in his mind.
And for the first time, he truly regretted everything—
His choices.
His jealousy.
And his desperate need for his sire’s attention.
Then everything went dark.
