Summary:

Parrot is tired, exhausted of fighting everything. Hurt people need comfort, yet comfort means something very different when it's coming from the people that hurt you.

Work Text:

Parrot hated it here. He knew that, and he was supposed to be a collected person. A calm person, but god he was so sick of it. Parrot was sick of this place, sick of being trapped like a bird in a cage. His fists clenched at his side, not running, but walking fast. Wifies voice rang out from behind.

"Parrot! Please, don't be upset you can be happy here, you're here with me. Please come here!"
Parrot didn't have the energy to respond to Wifies pleas, he just sounded desperate. The trees around blurred at the edges of his vision as frustrated tears threatened to fall. Parrot swallowed hard, he didn't want to cry it felt stupid to sob over this. Parrot just needed to escape, and he had tried so hard. So many different ways but nothing had worked. Wifies outsmarted, outplayed him. Every. Single. Time. He was angry, he wanted to be yelling at Wifies to go away, to just leave him alone.

Parrot would like to be alone right now. Parrots steps were leading down a grassy path that led to the base Wifies called their "home". Parrot never did, this place would never be his home. The path was muddy in some spots and Parrot almost stumbled over, his shoe getting caught in a path of thicker mud.

Everything was so annoying, it felt like everything was just out to fucking get him. Parrot's breath hitched biting back a frustrated scowl as he forced forwards. He was trying his best to ignore the man behind him.

Wifies stayed behind a little bit, not wanting to upset Parrot further by forcing himself close. Wifies had been getting clingier and clingier over the weeks. Wifies wanted Parrot to enjoy it here. He had been trying so hard, he wanted to give Parrot anything he wanted.. Other than letting him out of course, but unfortunately, Parrot still hadn't accepted it.

Parrot had time and time again refused to accept this place as his home, it made Wifies angry sometimes yes, but he was sad. He was sad Parrot kept pushing him away, and he knew why Parrot was frustrated he wasn't an idiot. But Parrot simply didn't understand, Wifies couldn't let anyone or anything hurt Parrot. Oh god the thought enough made his skin crawl.

They were further down the path, the base in view. Parrot sped his feet up, he didn't want Wifies to follow him into the house. The thought of being with Wifies a second longer made Parrot sick.

The sun filtered through the trees, stretching over the grass beautifully. If it wasn't for the situation, the sight could've been pretty. Parrot's steps were more aggressive than he meant them to be as he basically stomped up their porches steps. He glanced behind him, Wifies was too close behind. Parrot wrapped a hand around the knob, swiftly twisting it and throwing the door open. Parrot took a quick step inside before slamming the door.

Parrot twisted the lock, the sound of that click effectively keeping Wifies from getting in, at least not as easily. Wifies talking was silenced, Parrot liked that he didn't have to hear it anymore. He didn't want to hear another word come out of Wifies mouth right now. Parrot's breath was heavy, pressing his back to the door before letting himself slide down. He sat with his knees to his chest, a lump forming in his throat as heat rose to his eyes. Finally breaking down.

Parrot buried his face in his knees, tears welling in his eyes. Beginning to spill over until he was a sobbing mess. His strangled crying rang out, he tried to keep it quiet, but he couldn't when he had to suck in breaths through hiccups and choked sobs. He reached his hands up, trying to wipe the tears away, but it only irritated his eyes. Just adding another problem for himself. His chest felt tight, his heart felt heavy. He didn't know what to do, what was he supposed to do? He was trapped. And it made him feel sick, sick that he couldn't leave no matter how much he wanted to. Sick that he couldn't wake up from the nightmare this was. Parrot heard that stupid voice again, god it never went away.

"Darling.. Please don't cry...." Wifies spoke from the other side of the door, his voice sounded so gentle. He sounded like someone that cared, but Parrot could never take that as true. "I'm sorry if I pushed too hard on activities today, please don't be upset.."

After a long moment of silence that Wifies felt lasted forever. Parrot's breakdown quieted, his sobs turned into occasional small hiccups and sniffles as he wiped his eyes. His eyes burned every time he blinked from the tears, and they were agitated from the repeated rubbing. "Don't call me that." Parrot's voice wavered, coming out shakier than he wanted it too. Wifies had no right to call him that, maybe his best friend Wifies did. But the director Wifies had no claim over it.

"Just, let me in. I'll make you feel better, I can make everything feel better just let me help.." Wifies fingers dragged over the other side of the door making small circles as he spoke, his voice quiet. Parrot could only stare at the floor, this situation had happened before. And Parrot gave in every time. He always went back to letting Wifies comfort him, letting Wifies hold him through his emotions. Even if Wifies caused it. Because who else did Parrot have to go to? Because when Wifies hands ran through his hair, when Wifies held Parrot close. Parrot was able to pretend, that it was all okay again.

An uncomfortable silence hung between them, no matter how much he didn't want too. Parrot shifted his position, slowly standing up, his arms crossed as if in a way to hold himself. One hand reached out and Wifies heard a click, the door opened a small crack and Parrot stepped back. Allowing Wifies to do the rest himself.

Wifies immediately stood up, straightening himself as he pushed the door open. Shutting it behind him gently, keeping his movements slower and predictable as if Parrot would run away at any moment. Wifies took a step towards Parrot and reached out his arms, pulling Parrot into a hug. Parrots expression was blank as he buried his face in the crook of Wifies neck, a last resort for any sense of comfort since he felt like he might cry again. Wifies moved a hand to rub Parrot's back, reaching his other hand to run his fingers through the back of Parrot's hair.

Parrot felt sick doing this, he knew how horrible Wifies was for him, but he couldn't stop going back to him. God, it made Parrot's stomach hurt, what was wrong with him? Why did he keep hurting himself by putting himself in these vulnerable positions. He didn't know if it was that small sliver of hope Wifies might come back. His Wifies might come back. Parrot felt limp in Wifies arms, leaning into his touch like a fucking dog.

Parrot felt so pathetic. He felt like he might actually— oh god. Parrot pulled away abruptly, Wifies seemed to instinctively reach out but stopped himself. Parrot turned away, stumbling as he sped down the hallway, making a sharp turn into the bathroom. Nausea flooded his body, making him feel lightheaded. His breath was trembling, shaky as he flipped the toilet seat up. Parrot dry heaved, gagging as he felt a sickening heat of bile rise in his throat.

Wifies had followed Parrot and swiftly rushed in, noticing Parrot's state and immediately tucking Parrot's hair behind his ears and holding the excess hair back as Parrot lurched over and wretched into the toilet as forced vomit spilled out. Parrot's eyes watered as he gripped the toilet, his head felt like it was spinning as he coughed dryly. Whatever he had in his stomach emptied out into the toilet.

"Oh Parrot... It's okay, I'm here, you're doing so well. We'll get you some water okay..?" Wifies whispered, his body close to Parrot, rubbing soothing circles on his back. Seeing Parrot in pain made him feel horrible, he could protect Parrot, but not from the stress Parrot put on himself. Parrot's throat burned, the tears from puking falling occasionally from his eyes. The taste was rancid, he would definitely appreciate water. Parrot didn't want to swallow whatever taste and feel was in his mouth, so he coughed up and spat whatever was left in his mouth into the toilet. Before gesturing for Wifies to let go of his hair so he could stand up.

Parrot reached a trembling hand over, flushing the toilet so he didn't have to see it anymore. Parrot hadn't even realized Wifies had taken and was now holding Parrot's other hand. Parrot was too exhausted to pull away, and only stood close to Wifies as he was led out of the bathroom. Every step back down the hall towards the kitchen rang in his ears, his stomach coiled and ached.

Wifies led them both into the kitchen, and Parrot was led to a chair that was pulled away from the table for Parrot. Wifies rubbed circles with his thumb into Parrot's palm, but that comfort was taken away as Wifies pulled away to look in their cups cabinet. He pulled out a glass and filled it with cold water, bringing it back to Parrot and setting it on the table with a coaster underneath. Parrot felt so exhausted, he didn't really know what he wanted right now. Sleep, a way to be away from Wifies, he was just so tired. Physically and mentally.

Parrot's hands shook slightly as he picked up the weight of the cup, bringing it to his lips. Every gulp was light as the cold water helped with the disgusting taste that lingered in his mouth. Wifies gaze was locked on Parrot as if he was looking at something precious.

"Do you feel okay?" Wifies voice was low but clear. Parrot swallowed hard, setting the cup down and moving his arms to rest on the table.

"I-.. I don't know." Parrot muttered, uncomfortable with Wifies staring. "Finish your water, you threw up the liquid in your body, you need water darling." Wifies moved to nudge the cup towards Parrot, slight worry clear in his tone. Parrot tensed slightly at the name, he still didn't like hearing it come from Wifies mouth. But he wouldn't fight right now, not like he had the energy to. After Parrot picked the cup back up, a few swallows and it was gone. He had to admit it helped a lot.

When the cup was emptied, Wifies picked it up, taking it from its coaster and set it in the nearby sink. Parrot pushed away from the table, the chair legs scraping the floor as he stood up. His exhaustion was visible in how heavy his eyes were, fighting the urge to shut them while he was standing.

"Wanna go to our room?" Wifies asked quietly as he walked up to Parrot, keeping his voice quiet. Taking Parrot's hand and intertwining their fingers to help lead to wherever Parrot wanted to go. When Parrot gave a small nod Wifies let the tired avian lean on him for support as they walked. Parrot's gaze stayed on the floor. Staring at his feet as they walked, trailing slightly behind Wifies. They crossed the hallway for the third time, turning to a different door this time.

Wifies opened the door and it led to their bedroom, laid out with a well sized bed for them both. Two smaller nightstands on each side, and a dresser across the room from their bed. A door on one side that led to a closet. Parrot continued by himself, gently removing his hand from Wifies. He held himself stable as he walked slowly to the bed crawling up and letting the heavy feeling that lingered in his body take over. He brought his knees to his chest as he lay on his side, glancing down at the foot of the bed.

Wifies stepped up, shifting the weight on the bed as he laid next to Parrot. They were facing each other, but Parrot didn't look at Wifies face, staring down at his knees that he hugged tight. Wifies reached out his arms, opening them as an offer. Parrot knew Wifies expected him to take the hug, if Parrot said no Wifies would just pull him anyways. Parrot's grip on himself loosened, adjusting his position to move closer to Wifies. Wifies took it as a confirmation to pull Parrot closer, wrapping his arms around Parrot's body in a one sided hug.

Parrot shut his eyes tight as he buried his head in Wifies chest. He could feel Wifies hands holding him. One wrapped around his back, the other resting on the back of his head. Parrot's arms were crossed as he held himself, his hands gripping his own shoulders. He lowered his head, feeling drowsy. He forced himself to relax, when he fell asleep he wouldn't have to think of anything anymore, at least for a few hours he could stay in the darkness that felt better than this cage. His throat felt tight, a heavy lump coiled as if he would cry. Wifies clearly noticed Parrot tensing up.

"Shh, I'm here okay? Breath in, and out." Wifies soothed, tilting his head down to stare at Parrot's form, oh he looked so pathetic. Parrot followed the instructions, dragging in a deep trembling breath. Wifies took one with Parrot. Holding the breath, and Parrot copied. Wifies let it out slowly, his chest falling. Parrot had to admit it helped, though he didn't really want to. He was just so tired. Parrot's chest rose and fell lighter as drowsiness overtook him, his worries and stress fading as his mind blanked with sleep. Wifies smiled down at Parrot, glancing up and staring out the window where a gorgeous sunlight filtered in. Wifies was exactly where he wanted to be.
