Summary
The knock on Rebecca’s office door is habitual. Ted’s done this a hundred times before, in the morning with biscuits, in the evening with stories about his day and it is always the same.
Except today, it isn’t.
He pushes the ajar door open, expecting Rebecca to be immersed in paperwork or emails, a tea cup on her desk but the sight stops him cold.
She isn’t alone.
Matthijs is there, standing close as she gathers her belongings, laughing at something he’s said. The sound hits Ted like a sucker punch.
