Work Text:
They might have been rascals
Who knew that Saturday morning could be this loud.
Saturday should have means day off, equal long sleep, at least for Yoongi. But today is World Health Day and they will celebrate it by doing some calisthenics on the school. Seokjin and the others are already dressed up in their PE uniform complete with a headband, but one person still hasn't even got up the bed.
"Hyung, we can't just let this happen," Jimin whispered beside him.
They're in Yoongi's room (his mother gave up on trying to wake him up), and in their trial they just waste full fifteen minutes without result while Yoongi still turn his back to them.
"We're gonna start anytime soon," remind Jimin.
He sighs. "I know, Jimin." Seokjin patted Yoongi's shoulder but that blonde hair guy idles. There he conclude. "I guess we better leave him out."
"No!" Jimin says. He then walks toward Yoongi's bed, climbs up to him and embraces him like a koala. "Yoongi hyung! You can't just sleep here, you must join us for a healthy body and mind! The weather is nice today!" In this part Seokjin thought Yoongi would do something in act (firstly, get up maybe) but nothing. So Jimin bow over to his ear, "Hallooo is there anyone home....?" And licked it.
Got a fistful from Yoongi.
Now he's on the floor.
"Ouch, he's actually tough."
For real.
"Why would you do that," he said.
And suddenly he heard an uproar from the hall outside the room and a few seconds later Taehyung and Jungkook barged in. Those boys looked so excited for today, not only they wears school attributes, they also brought flag and trumpet. Namjoon had complained and told them that its not like they're gonna watch some soccer or baseball match, but still. Being a noisy snowflakes, they kept blowing it on the road. Moreover here. Taehyung and Jungkook literally jumped up the bed (Seokjin needs to retreat from there to the back of the room), and almost broke the mattress. Singing the national anthem so perfectly he thought they were a choir.
"Hyung! Hurry! Up! We're! Starving!" Taehyung shouted.
Jungkook on the other side trying hard to peek on Yoongi, who then pull his pillow and hides his face from those intruders. Yoongi groaning.
"Just go away I'm not gonna go," he sounds hoarse and fed up.
"Not with you!" Jungkook said.
"What does it has to do with starving?" Jimin recollect himself.
"They distributing free food!"
"Oh, you serious?"
Then they starts to plead to Yoongi with the reason of the free food, three people attacking one from every corner. Seokjin sighed for the umpteenth time that morning, looking out the window where Namjoon and Hoseok waiting, sitting down on the sidewalk.
Namjoon, aware and look up at him, giving a long face and Seokjin shakes his head. Even Hoseok, who usually very bright light bulb humped his back and making a sullen expression. The second and third grades are so tired for these past days full of activites such as being a comittee in their own clubs, lab works, tests and other things so its not weird that they starts bad in the morning today. He's not an exception. His last year of school nearing an end and he got bunches of homeworks and evaluations, not even half of the semester but he's already feels like his soul drifting away from his body.
"Well hyung if you're asking for it." Taehyung get down the bed and walk towards a table besides it. Specifically Yoongi's working table. He likes to make musics and such so he bought hardwares and experimenting with it there. MK2, keyboard, recording mic; Yoongi's very treasure box. Taehyung touches the keyboard notes, making discordant sound. "I'm gonna play this~"
Following Taehyung, Jungkook and Jimin now messing up with the rest of the equipment. The noise they made move to out of tune that came out from the music instruments.
Seokjin knows rule number one in this room: never touch Yoongi's treasures.
The owner sat up on his bed, blonde hair went everywhere. He turns his head to them and Seokjin could make out a sharp look from his eyes. Like an eagle found out his nest being destroyed by sewer rats.
At this special moment Jimin holds up the mic and accidentally dropped it. "Oops."
A storm has awakened.
"I'll kill you all."
And that's the beginning of a disaster.
Lucky for them, they made it to the way to school in the end. And with Yoongi. Although it could be expected if Yoongi's room not in the second story he would be kicking their ass out of the window. But well, he's still merciful this time. He's not that brutal. He just indifferent. He just kicked them out to the hallway.
"I could only sleep for two hours last night," he tells him while they walk. Like always, the younger kids leading with so much spirit, Hoseok and Namjoon had woke up enough to follow the flow of their mind, Seokjin and Yoongi the last one of the row.
"What were you working on?" Seokjin asks.
Yoongi yawned before answering. "A mix for the festival in Incheon."
"Incheon? I might have heard wrong but is it the one with DJ HANMIN in it?"
"Well, the plan was that."
"Whoa! You're great!"
"Nah it's not a big thing," Yoongi scratched his head, look a little bit fluttered by it. "I'm just gonna submit what I made like many of the participants and hopes that I will get chosen. Namjoon also had his mix in."
Yoongi and Namjoon, two of his inner circle who very dedicated on making music besides school. He thought that is so impressive.
"Only three will played from six thousands mixes."
"Still," Seokjin nods sympathetically. "Good luck, Yoongs."
They're tremendously endlessly mischevious
First round is before the calisthenics begun.
In the field, they must stand in order of their classes. But when Seokjin chooses his place beside Hyosang, he looked around and found Taehyung behind him instead.
"Why are you here?"
Taehyung, bent down and raises his index finger in front of his lips. Obviously he was attempting to hide with the disguise of Seokjin's body from whoever it is. Seokjin looked where his gaze went, Jimin's place. That kid is talking with Jungkook and Kei, looked more happy than usual. When he speaks he brushes his bangs back and then Kei would laugh prettily. Seokjin and Taehyung groaning at that cringe scene. Taehyung pointed down and as he scrunitize Jimin's pair of shoe has been tied up hard ("Yah, Kim Taehyung you're going overboard!"), but Taehyung trying to shut him up when the the second grade coach move to the front to blow his whistle so all the students orderly from a line, and when Jimin wants to walk his legs twisted. He fell.
"SCOREEE!" Taehyung shouted.
But when he thought that Jimin would fell alone, he actually fell with the person ahead of him together in which its Kei, and he pulled her blouse and after that he's finally on the ground with his back on it.
And it's really really a drama cliche, something Seokjin saw every single damn time on the TV (well, without Jungkook who giggling at the side).
"Okay, maybe that's not what I expected," Taehyung lift his eyebrow. Before a gaze of Jimin who's got embarrassed, found him.
Round two, or it's got to be the next round Seokjin saw was the night at the same day when he walked out the house. Jungkook was on the gate and called him. He said that Jungkook could just come in but that kid stayed there. He should've notice. But because he happen to need to find a printing shop for his essay, he get out anyway.
And that is a trap.
The second he walks down the porch's stairs suddenly there's an exploding kind of sounds from the both of his sides and of course he's freaking out, he jumped afraidly like he was striked by electricity. It's about a minute long, and when he calmed down, crouched with his hands on his head, he thought what did he do wrong to the government that he's being targeted by the CIA. But he's still alive.
He also hears laughing.
Jungkook runs away while saying, "Sorry hyung!" followed by Jimin and Taehyung who popped out from the bushes not far from there, covers their giggling mouth, and Seokjin realizes he's been humiliated by tiny fireworks bar.
"To be honest, they also got me last month," Namjoon said when Seokjin made a confession.
"Well, they said gave me a present," Hoseok snorts, emphasize on the word present. "I mean, mine was not that whoa. But at least those dumbass didn't got you in tape. Or did they?"
Seokjin doesn't even care if he's being recorded or if they're gonna upload it on Youtube and such. "In what excuse would they did those things?"
"Y'know, kids kidding," Yoongi shrugged. "They're in the phase of no pressures, and too much spare time."
"In that reason Kookie should have been preparing for his high school examination, tho?"
"A...ha."
"And why is that they got a lot of unusual weird stuff to play around?" Toys like a hotwheel track with a strange noise out of it, suprisingly huge red umberella, a pyramid pattern tent, burger shaped cushions; unique stuff that sometimes made Seokjin thinks that they might have been kittens in Neko Atsume.
"That chicken toy who made a sound..." Yoongi shuddered. "I hate it everytime they put it to my face."
"You," Seokjin look to Hoseok. "I thought you're teaming up with them too. And in my memory, back then you were the mastermind of them."
Hoseok trying to look oblivious, what mastermind? "It's back then hyung, it's when they still doing it for the profit so I joined."
"Profit??"
"I mean--"
"I guess we shouldn't thought of what leads them to the actions," Namjoon said. "They just likes doing that. Hobby. Not a day without one of their mischiefs."
"It's two today."
"Hey." Hoseok clap. "Jimin said he's paid Tae back with a water balloon on his chair, a whole of math cram with Tae's pants wet. Make today three."
They all sighs.
Sometimes haphazard
Seokjin oftens saw a few posts, mostly on Taehyung's account, about peculiar experiments they did. It would be Taehyung and Jungkook stand in front of a table on the backyard (Jimin's not there and Tae said he was a coward) with many cups like the science lab. Then they would put anything they got into one, so that the liquids squirting everywhere.
At the other day they wanted to competed with popular vines they likes to watch, making some magic show in which they show up and dissapear; or even random things like showing how Jungkook capable of brushing his teeth with two tootbrushes or playing hide-and-seek with eyes closed at night.
"My mom giving me this handycam for my birthday," Jungkook tells him. "And they bought the memory card."
So that must be the initial.
But the thing is, the three of them had this strange attraction and solidarity with each other that make Seokjin envy.
In the end I'm the one who must take responsibility
"Oh! What day is it?"
He's on the counter, holding a shaker and a bowl full of dough when they got into his kitchen (they're not even came from the front door, they're from the sideyard) with so much enthusiasm.
"I wanna make a cake!" A smart suggest from Taehyung.
Namjoon, was sitting on the couch, reading a book, creasing his forehead. "No, no! Don't touch my cake."
But Jimin unnoticedly approaching Seokjin. "Your cake?"
"This is for Namjoon who wanted a jar of chocolate cookie," he said. He warding off their hands who wanted to try his dough, but Jungkook being a well-versed got himself a finger full of it and Seokjin could only sighs. "Anyway, you should be doing this too, Namjoon-ah."
"Do you really want that, hyung?" Jungkook, licking the tip of his finger off with somewhat and amused smile.
"Yeah, hyung, do you really want that. I would be making a catastrophe to your kitchen later." There's giggling and Namjoon giving them a look. "There's a big possibility."
"If that so we could help," Jimin brightly says.
Seokjin raises his eyebrow to Namjoon, who the latter then rolled his eyes but doesn't look like he refuse.
"Alright."
Seokjin not wanting to risk his beloved kitchen for Namjoon, but he also didn't make any better choices by allowing the trio touch his stuff. Jimin actually not that bad, he could made the dough into a decent shapes; and Jungkook actually could handle the oven perfectly; but Taehyung, that innocent kid, put in too much egg shells while also spilled the eggs to the floor. And Jimin didn't check that. So when everything is done, a precisely ten tray of chocolate chip cookies baked and Namjoon got up to try one, he gave Seokjin a deep frown.
"Hyung, som--"
He figured out, sometimes Namjoon commentaries are very biting, and he looked at the maknaes and they're watching with a high hopes at their works (those big cute eyes), so he's stopping at whatever going to happen. "It's not bad, right, Namjoon? Ah yes the chocolate chip is a little bit hard, but they're quiet sweet. Good, isn't it?"
Namjoon is still chewing.
"Good, isn't it?"
"Yep. Of course."
Taehyung, Jimin and Jungkook hoorayed nice job fams, whoa i am a good baker, jimin is great and such.
And Namjoon elbowing Seokjin, "Why is this salty."
"Huh?"
He's sure that when he first trying the dough he knows the taste is enough. But then he remember not trying the last three tray. Seokjin took one that still warm, the smell is normal, the color too. Like the cookies you could spot on the cake shop. Perfect. He's not hesitant to take a bite.
"Hyung, can we join your next cooking class?" Jimin asks.
Crap.
"Am I right?" Namjoon whispered.
From the corner of his view Taehyung got his eyes wide, like he remember something.
This is a salt.
But they are a cutie
Cute like, they had this natural aegyo. A thing that can't be forced, or just plainly making him embarrassed like how Hoseok did or the one that looked very awkward like Yoongi's. It's the one that make Seokjin wants to hug them every time it shows.
Jungkook, maybe because he’s the youngest, still not over his pubescent, is the cutest. All the hyungs consider him adorable, that makes Jungkook wanted to look more manly (I'm gonna learn wing chun, you guys needs to stop pinching my cheek) but in addition he still addicted to ice cream. Most if the time Seokjin willing to buy him, half because he also likes ice cream, and the other half is because how Jungkook pulling his arm.
"Jin hyung, what about blackberry flavor like that kid."
Far from Jungkook's puppy eyes, Seokjin spotted a little kid holding a cone walking with its mother. "Yeah? Yeah? Yeah?" Jungkook's bunny teeth are showing. "Hyungnim..."
Just because of that, The Adorable Jeon able to drag him to the ice cream truck.
And not only to him, those kids likes to spread their charms to the rest of the hyungs. Taehyung likes to annoy Yoongi (generally everyone likes to annoy Yoongi), sometimes after school he would cling to him and murmuring about how his height is not increasing anymore. On the first Yoongi would complains and trying to get away from Tae's hands, but these days he doesn't even flinch, just letting Taehyung who says that Yoongi feels like a teddy bear hugs him.
"Yoongi hyung is cute," Taehyung says when he got asked why (with a really wide smile).
"What the hell, weirdo," Yoongi replied, turn over with pissed of expression. "Knock it off."
Then Yoongi would walks after them, both hands in the pocket, and Taehyung would still making fun of him, following him like a lost puppy and Jimin joins in ah hyung it was a good compliment you know, and they would act like a parasites.
Yoongi may look like he's pissed off, but he actually didn't mind. He never asked them to stop.
And that is just right
One day in April Seokjin sit on the porch. A file placed besides him, and he feels tired to just look at it. He thought of throw it away.
So the result of his final tests is out, determining how his future will became. Determining Seokjin's next step.
Should have been like that. But he didn't pass. On both of the selection. Seokjin was convincing himself that he could get accepted to the university he wanted, pushed himself so hard until he sacrificing his playing or resting time only for it. The last month was the most tiring he's ever faced in his whole life but he didn't pass.
Seokjin looked up to the blue sky, so pretty he might cry.
"Hyung!"
From the front house he could see the three of them move quickly with their bike. Jungkook first, with a blue classic athletic bike, looked the most natural out of them. Taehyung second, a purple bike with a bottle bag tied and a stiff smile. Jimin, more far from the two, tired, drinks from the bottle he thought could be from Tae's, hair messy and sweaty.
Seokjin wipe his eyes, while giving out a small grin, but then he looked to the ground.
"Hyung, we just got here from the town park," Jungkook tells after they park the bikes on the sidewalk and approaching him. "The place is amazing, I'm not gonna lie!"
"This is the first time Kookie went there," Tae said. "After two years in Seoul, this is the first time."
"The bridge is cool! The lamps, whoa. We should go there at night."
"No, we should be not going there with bike," Jimin still heavily breathing. He realizes that Seokjin keeps quiet and just smile. "You alright hyung?"
Before he could convince them that he's alright, Taehyung who tries to sit on the porch found his file. "What is..." He opened it up and read it. "..Ah."
After they finished it, they looked at Seokjin. Frowning. "I'm... it's okay, I could register myself to another place. Not a big deal."
They know it's not not a big deal to Soekjin, who's been dreaming and talking endlessly about that university.
"Hmm, hyung is gonna be okay," Jimin smiles. "Come on, group hug!" He suddenly lunged in with his hands out and Taehyung with Jungkook too, and he lost his balanced so they all fell down. Seokjin could feel their body heat and sweats. He complained but nobody listened to him, they just hold him tighter. His heart warm. Right. He's gonna be okay.
"Alright, how about we go there again this evening?" He offered.
They let him off with a different kind of expressions. Jungkook always the excited one. Tae is smiling thought he's not sure if he's actually feels glad. Jimin is sullen.
"Assa! Why not now?" Jungkook suggests.
"Ah hyung, it's tiring and I'm not gonna take the bike anymore," Jimin looked like he's gonna weep and Tae is laughing at him, mocks you loser.
While they argue, Seokjin relieved all of the sudden. This kids will never be out of it. That's why he loves them.
He mess Jimin's already messed hair and stands up. There's a festival on the town park today, it's gonna be bustling. The sky is good. He throw away the file. "I'll take the ride, Jiminnie."
And that is just right.
