Lewis’s hand dragged across Nico’s cheek. His boyfriend was the most beautiful person that had ever graced the earth. He had to be. His flowy blond hair. His magnificent blue eyes. Everything about him was perfection incarnate. Lewis didn’t need art when Nico was around to be stared at all day.
And hopefully, soon, Nico would be more than his boyfriend.
He’d planned the perfect date night for today. Nico’s favorite restaurant. A walk alongside the beach. Everything was in line for the best proposal Lewis could have ever made. There wasn’t anything Lewis needed other than Nico and a long life with him. God, he was so fucking in love with him. Nothing was more important than Nico’s happiness to Lewis, and maybe some people would call that unhealthy.
Lewis simply called it love. Nico had been his everything for years and years, since they were nothing but young and immature. He was his sunshine, his stars, his reason to get up in the morning. His heart had been broken from 2016, yet it had come together so much stronger when they’d made up then it had been before.
His heart was not only healed but it was beating better than it ever could have before.
Lewis’s breath stopped momentarily when he felt Nico move under his cheek. He observed him to make sure he was waking up naturally and not because of Lewis. When he felt satisfied with his observations, he watched Nico’s eye lids flutter open. Nico looked up at him, a soft smile crossing the man’s face.
“Lewis…” Nico breathed softly, almost like he was relieved Lewis was alive and real. Lewis couldn’t judge him though. He felt the same way about Nico. Every time he felt Nico breathing, every time he woke up to the blond beside him in bed, he couldn’t help but feel relief. It was confirmation. That the love of his life was real and right by his side, not pushed away like he’d been before.
“Nico.”
Lewis felt his face shift into a natural grin. He buried his face in Nico’s neck, knowing his beard would tickle Nico. He felt Nico’s chest gently moving, indicating his giggles. That sound was music to Lewis’s ears, the best thing to hear after having woken up to the prettiest boy right in his bed.
“Let me cook you something.” Lewis offered, pulling back softly. Usually he didn’t cook much. Nico spent much more time at home then Lewis because of his retirement, which meant Nico had much more time to perfect his cooking then Lewis. It’s not that he’d blow up the kitchen if he tried to cook, just that it felt much more natural to let Nico take the wheel when it came to that household task. Nico never minded and Lewis was more than happy to eat burnt garbage if Nico had made it.
Nico’s eyes widened a bit with surprise, but curiosity was also mixed in there. After all, it wasn’t something Lewis offered… much or at all, really.
But that just made Nico all that more excited to accept Lewis’s offer.
And as they ate breakfast in their tiny nook, not as good as Nico’s cooking but just as filled with love, Lewis knew that by the end of the night… They would be more than boyfriends.
