Chapter Text
How exactly did I get into this situation?
Kei idly wondered who had the stupid idea to go to a club. Well, too late. Now he was here and danced with Kuroo. Kuroo his crush since high school, Kuroo the most annoying, most irritating, most wonderful person he knew.
Wonderful? Oh, yes, my brain is really out of it after the drinks I had with Akaashi and Bōkutō.
Actually, the evening had started rather innocently. Akaashi had invited him over for drinks and K-dramas. Kei loved to talk shit about over the overdramatic plotlines, while he was eating a mountain of junk food with Akaashi.Unfortunately, Bokuto and Kuroo were already waiting for him at Akaashis door.
Great! just what I needed a change of plans.
“Oh Kei, I hope you don’t mind a little company?” Akaashi asked innocently from the kitchen. All Kei could muster was a glance that could have spoiled milk, since Bokuto had already pulled him into a hug and was busy pressing the last bit of air out of him.
His loud “Hey, hey, hey Tsukki” was making his ears ring.
“Hey Tsukki” Kuroo leaned nonchalantly on the door frame. He was watching Kei with his usual smirk. “How is college life? Still playing volleyball?”
“Don’t call me that!” Kei had since managed to fight Bokuto off and gave Kuroo a withering glare.
Kuroo laughed “Oh come on Tsukki. No need to be so grumpy on this beautiful evening.”
Keis “Tsk” did nothing to impress Kuroo in any shape or form. On the contrary he was even more amused and laughed even harder. Kei was well aware that all his attempts to just flee and avoid this whole horrible mess of an evening were completely pointless and so he decided to just let himself be dragged into the apartment by Bokotu and admitted defeat.
“Hey, Hey, Hey Tsukki, it’s about time I see you again. No fair that you only meet up with Keiji.”
“Kōtarō! Let Tsukki catch his breath, bevor you ambush him!”
“Thanks for the relaxing evening. So nice to see you and whole gang again.”
Akaashi promptly ignored the sarcastic comment and pulled Kei next to him on the couch. “My pleasure. Kō was complaining that he never gets to see you these days, and you know I can’t really say no to him. “
Kei mumbled “Traitor.” under his breath and accepted his cruel fate. Actually, the evening wasn’t so bad, all things considered. It felt rather comfortable falling back into old habits. They talked about college, volleyball and, of course, the Jackels. Granted the constant flow of alcohol, kindly provided by Akaashi, helped a lot to finally shut up his inner critic. The problem was Kuroo. He was way too close, always touching him, and leaning into him. It was so distracting and entirely not unwelcome. Especially since Kei had done everything to keep Kuroo away from him. Granted he was rather an expert in keeping basically everyone away from him, but Kuroo didn’t seem to have gotten the info.He easily scaled Kei walls with his sarcastic comments and easy smiles, that promised he could be so much more than just his slightly older volleyball tutor. He just needed a chance from Kei to show him.
Ah yes, it’s going swimmingly shutting off my thoughts. Really impressive. Kei thought and couldn’t keep a slight smirk off his face.
“Tsukki, agree with me!” Bokutos voice broke through his musings.
Crap what were they talking about, and why do I need to agree? And to what?
“Don’t involve Tsukki Bo! Besides I’m the master when it comes to dancing.” “In your dreams” retorted Bokuto. Kuroos arm landed accidently on purpose on Keis shoulders, and he was just so relieved that he was able to blame his blush on the alcohol he had drunk. Granted only so long as he could avoid Akaashi’s gaze. There was no hiding anything from him.
“Let’s go dancing then and then you two numbnuts can finally straighten out who is the biggest clown on the dancefloor.”
As expected Aksashi’s suggestion was, of course, met with huge excitement.
Yeah, I really need to re-evaluate my friendship Akaashi. Kei thought, as he was pulled into Aksashi’s room and put into a black, tight shirt.
Yes, Akaashi and I need to have a serious talk. Kei was standing in line to get into Sedai’s hottest club and for the first time on this very long evening, he really cursed himself for not pretending to have a very important essay due, but there was no fighting destiny at this point.
The music rang in his ears. Kuroo pulled him on the dance floor before Kei even got a chance to feel awkward and self-conscious, and Kei just focused on the music, on Kuroo’s fingers on his hips that pulled him closer on his hot breath on his neck. His Brain finally shut up and for the first time in a long time Kei didn’t think about what others may thing about him or that his crush might be just one sided since Kuroo made it crystal clear that he wanted more than just a friendship.
All his incoherent thoughts were about Kuroo, and how perfectly they moved together. Hesitantly Kei placed his hands on Kuroo’s shoulders and was greeted with a knowing grin.
Kei could feel the bass pulsing through his body. He had lost all sense of time; all he could focus on were Kuroo hands on his body and the thought of how his lips would feel on his own. Kei just wished that this moment would never end, since he really didn’t want to confront his complicated feelings and he just wanted to live in the specific moment forever. Fate, as usual, had other plans. Blinding, white lights announced that the club was closing and brought Kei back to hard, cold reality. This wasn’t how he wanted this evening to end with pounding ears and a very pleased, grinning Kuroo in a grey back alley.
‘Let’s look for Bokuto and Akaashi.” Kei said in a faint attempt to avoid having to talk to Kuroo.
“No need, they left hours ago. It’s just us.”
“Tsk” Kei really wanted to sort through his feelings first before he had to talk to Kuroo, had to confront his feelings, had to confront the possibility of them being more than just friends, but yeah no so such luck apparently.
“Come on Kuroo. You can crash on my couch.”
Kei turned around and started to walk to the nearby bus stop. Kuroo followed him, annoyingly still full of energy.
“Admit it Tsukki, you had fun tonight.”
Kei ignored him and was checking his phone instead. The first bus was still 10 minutes away. Kei sighed, defeated, he just wanted to sit down and let the bus take him home.
“You wouldn’t let me go. Come on Tsukki just admit it.”
Kei focused his attention back on a smirking, very self-assured Kuroo. He knew he wouldn’t give it a rest until Kei would give in and talk about it, and fair they had to talk about it, but not now while Kei was still a little drunk, exhausted and just wanted to sleep. Annoyed he closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Shut up, just shut up, please!”
Kuroo’s smile grew even wider. “Come on over then and make me Tsukki. Bet you don’t have the balls.”
Two big steps brought Kei face to face with Kuroo. Tsukki grabbed his shirt, pulled him closer and kissed him. Kuroos eyes widened in surprise. Kei could feel Kuroo’s arms moving and took a step back before they could rest on his waist. A very smug Kei watched as a completely shocked Kuroo touched his lips as if to make sure that he hadn’t dreamt the whole thing. Kei almost felt pity for him.
“Later Tetsurō. I promise. After some sleep we can have the talk you want, but not now. Please?”
Kuroo smiled and nodded. “Later sounds perfect.”
Kei sat next to Kuroo at the empty bus stop. Exhausted he leaned his head onto Kuroo’s shoulders and took a deep breath. He felt how Kuroo played softly with his hair. Later they would have a talk, and Kei would have to come to terms with the fact that his one-sided crush wasn’t one-sided at all, and that he might have a boyfriend if he wanted one.
But that would be later at the moment this still felt way too unreal and Kei wasn’t ready yet to deal with the implications of this whole situation. For now, he decided to just enjoy this calm morning and how warm and comforting Kurro felt next to him. Later would be time enough to think about everything, but now Kei decided to enjoy the moment and to focus on the now.
