On opening the hatch, the quiet rushed in. Sudden and absolute, it hit Gemini X like rain striking water-starved earth, breathing a gasp of relief. We marvelled over the grandiose views beneath us, clouds like cotton swirls covering the planet.
I watched, enchanted, as Mike moved with the lissom weightlessness demanded, his body a dark cutout in front of the Agena’s pale bulk.
To the East, sunrise crested over the curved horizon. The beam reflected off the Agena as its metal skin radiated the light, filling the spacecraft. He glimmered as an angel would.
“Got your sun visor down, Babe?”
