Chapter Text
It’s early in the morning and the sun is just starting to shine through the window in Jonathan’s bedroom room.
Then from behind his bed the two heads of Will and Jane, both wearing matching yellow and purple pajamas, appear.
“Jonathan psst” Jane whispered, poking her sleeping brother’s back. Seeing that he was still sound asleep Will and her hastily climbed up onto his bed. “Jonathan! Jonathan! Jonathan! Wake up!”
“Jonathannnnnnnnnnnn! Wake up.” Will shook Jonathan by his shoulders.
“Guys go back to sleep, it’s too early.” mumbled Jonathan.
“But we can’t!” Will said, flopping dramatically across the bed.
“The sun’s up, so we’re up, and so we have to do something.” Jane said like she was explaining something that was supposed to be common knowledge.
“Can’t you guys just play with each other and let me sleep in peace?” asked the still half asleep eleven year old.
“Fine then we will!” Jane said with a mischievous grin. A few seconds later she hopped off the bed and ran towards the door. Will sat on the bed for a few seconds looking confused before quickly running to the door after his twin sister.
“Shit! Guys wait for me!”
By the time Jonathan had gotten to the staircase two very annoyed looking seven year olds were staring him down.
“Took you long enough! We were just about to leave you behind!” said Jane.
Will grabbed Jonathan’s hand and began to drag him down the stairs. “Come on come on come on!”
“Shhh we don’t want to get caught remember guys”
The three siblings ran down the stairs and to the empty ballroom.
“Come on Jane!” Will said laughing. “Make it snow!”
“Remember what Mom said, be careful and don’t push yourself.”
“She knows Jonathan, you remind her every single time”
“It’s better to be safe than have something bad happen”
“BE QUIET! I’m trying to focus!” Jane whisper-shouted at them.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. Jane moved her hand as tiny bits of snow started to fall from it. “Are you ready? Can I do it?”
Jane took the other two’s silence as a yes. Suddenly that little bit of snow falling from her hand spread across the entire ceiling.
“THIS IS AMAZING” shouted Will, who was jumping up and down.
“Wannna see something cooler?” She stared at Jonathan, who gave her an encouraging nod. Jane stomped her foot on the ground and the floor turned to ice. “Race you to the other side of the ballroom!” And with that the brunette girl raced off and was quickly followed by her older brother.
“Unfair!” Will shouted, “You two got a head start.”
Then just as Will began to run on the ice, he slipped and fell onto the floor. Jane kept running, not sparing a glance at him but Jonathan completely turned around and went back to help him.
As soon as Jonathan came up to Will, the seven year old got back up and started running again.
“You can’t win now Jon!”
Will ran, careful not to fall for real this time. But with his older brother still standing in the same place dumb founded, he quickly made it to the end of the ballroom.
“That’s cheating. Jane tell Will it doesn’t count if he fakes an injury.”
“Mmm I think it counts, all’s fair in love and ice races, sorry.” Jane said while grinning.
Will let out a gasp. “You know what we should do?”
“Build a snowman,” Jonathan and Jane said at the same time.
“You always want to build a snowman.” The brunette girl said as she rolled her eyes.
“Well it’s fun, so we should, and you can’t judge me” he said, crossing his arms across his chest.
“You two sit and I’ll gather up some snow for the base, and you have a little something below your nose.”
Jane slowly moved her hand under her nose wiping the blood that had flowed from it away. “Ughhhhhhh why does this keep happening?”
A few minutes later Jonathan returned, rolling a ball of snow towards them. The two twins quickly copied their brother and rolled up their own mounds of snow. Once all three of them had a circlish bit of snow (Jane’s looks more like a lumpy square) they stacked the circles on top of each other. Making a semi normalish snowman that was as tall as both of the seven year olds.
“It’s missing something…” muttered Jonathan, “I know! It needs a scarf, to make it fancy” and with that he takes off his green patterned scarf and wraps it around the snowman’s head.
“It’s perfect.” Jane’s eyes widened in awe. “We should sled now.”
“You two get bored very quickly, you know that?”
“Yeah we do now come onnnnn”
Jonathan quickly walked over to the big doors and told the twins to wait for him to get back and get the sleds before they do anything else.
But do seven year olds ever listen?
Nope.
Will started to jump across the hills as Jane ran after him, making more to land on.
“Catch me, catch me” he said, speeding up.
“Wait! Slow down!” She shouted struggling to make new piles of snow as fast as her brother was jumping over them. Then she slipped on the ice. As Will started to fall she tried to use her powers to catch him, she missed and hit him.
“Will!” Jane rushed over to where Will had fallen and where he was now laying unconscious. She quickly tried to wake him up and she was too distracted to notice the thin white strand that had appeared in her younger brother’s perfectly brown hair.
“MOM! DAD! JONATHAN! SOMEONE” Jane cried. As her tears started to hit the floor ice started to spread all over the room. “It’s okay, Will I got you.” she said while pulling him closer to her.
The doors burst open and Joyce, Hopper, and Jonathan burst through.
“Jane, what. did. you. do.” Hopper said as he took in the scene.
“I didn’t mean to Dad I promise.”
Jonathan stood there with a mixture of guilt and horror etched across his face.
Joyce didn’t waste a second and ran up to Jane and picked up Will's unconscious body “He’s freezing.”
Hopper took a deep breath and said “I know where we have to go”
