Can’t sleep either?

Summary:

Suitcase is feeling guilty after Baseball’s elimination and is having trouble getting to sleep, so she decides to talk to Knife who seems to be having trouble getting to bed too.

Notes:

This isn’t canon to the “this story needs an ending” rewrite but it is based on its canon. It’s a fanfic of a fanfic, but I don’t think ya gotta read it to understand this.

Work Text:

Suitcase knew the feeling of sleeping alone well. It was a cold, lonely sting. A feeling of something missing.

They had gotten used to it before, but they wouldn't have to again. It would only be a night or two after all, then they'd be back with their partners. All of their partners…

They just….wish they weren't. Here. Weren't alone.

She wasn't mad at their host of course. He's here, he's listening, he's trying.

But the game wasn't the most…pleasant place to be, to say the least.

She's fine. The whole Cobs calling thing will end fine. Knife's fine. Lightbulb's fine. Baseball's…Baseball's fine.

Baseball...Oh her Baseball.

He loves her. Oh he loves her. Always did.

Even if their old third didn't share the affection, they found what he couldn't give them in each other.

He. He understands. It was to protect him. He couldn't go on, didn't WANT to go on, and she knew it.

But. But…

Shit what if he didn't. What if he felt betrayed? What if he was heart broken?

And Lightbulb! What would Lightbulb think of this!?

How could Suitcase vote out their partner, how could she ruin his chances of winning? How could she backstab him like this?! How could she have been such a horrible partner!

Would they even still want-

No. No. Her partners love her. They wouldn't leave her over the game. Not after all this time. Not after everything….Would they?

She really just had to push everyone away, didn't she.

Suitcase tried to focus on how Baseball looked at them when he left...How he was looking at them all day. Like they were his everything.

Fuck.
What they would give right now to be cuddled up between their loves instead of stuck here again.

She can make it through. Probably...maybe...

Suitcase looked to the other side of the room, where Knife was…well not sleeping apparently.

The blade was fidgeting with his hands, he looked. Stressed. Restless.

How could he not be after Taco tried to tear him down?

They should check on him. He probably needs it. And well, it would be nice to talk to their friend instead of being stuck with their thoughts, even if just for a moment.

Suitcase got up from their bed, and made their way to Knife.

“Can't sleep?” The weapon asked as Suitcase sat down next to him, making herself comfortable on his bed. Looks like he beat her to it huh?

“Not a wink.”

“Hm. Worried about Baseball?”

“I. I know he and Lightbulb understand my choice, Baseball said he wasn't happy here and all. but it's still…stressful? I don't know how to put it.”

“Anxiety getting to you?” Knife asked as he leaned into her. After living together for a couple years he could read Suitcase like a book, or at least he hoped he could.

Suitcase nodded.

“I just want him to be okay, ya know?” They looked away from Knife as they said that.

“Baseball's a strong guy, he will be.” Even if Knife didn't exactly, trust Baseball back when they were teammates, he's grown past the poor leader he once was.

He's here, he's listening, he's trying.

Suitcase smiled softly. “He is, isn't he?”

Knife smiled back, before stress overcame him again. Clearly their was something on the blade's mind.

“Knife, if you don't mind me asking, what's been keeping you up?”

Knife sighed. You can tell them. You're allowed to be open. Especially after the day you've just had. They've learned far heavier stuff and still care for you.

“I mean being back in this place doesn't bring the best memories, especially when you're stuck with...someone you thought left you for good…”

“He's your ex. Right...”
Despite Suitcase expecting Taco's attempt to break him to be what was keeping her friend up, she wasn't too surprised to learn it was Mephone.

In hindsight that made more sense, actually. Considering the breakdown the phone had earlier that night and all.

She may be on good terms with their host, but she wasn't the one he loved before he left them.

“I believe him, he is trying. Somehow he does really mean it.” The words left a bittersweet taste in Knife's mouth. “And I'd rather his sadistic freak father not get a hold of him"

“I guess its just a lot to take in.”

Knife really wasn't sure how to feel about his former lover now. He tried to help him, he tried to be there for him. And he left without a word.

Now he's back. Now he's ready to truly be a good friend to those he cares for. And now, he needs Knife and Suitcase's help.

Even so, it's hard to erase a couple years worth of feeling like you meant nothing to your lover.

Knife held Mephone earlier. He wanted too. No one made him, he just. He couldn't leave him like that.

But would he ever say the same about him? Could Knife ever really be sure that Mephone wouldn't abandon them again if things got to much? Would he still even WANT Mephone to stick with him like that?

It's all. To much. To fast.

“Knife…you're allowed to take time. You don't need to rush to figure out how you feel about everything.” Suitcase comforted.

The blade needed to here that, he smiled at the case “Yeah you're probably right, as usual. We should still uh, try to keep Mephone from getting murdered though.”

“Yeah keeping people from dying tends to be the right thing to do” Suitcase softly chuckled, feeling a bit more at peace now.

Knife put his hand on top of Suitcase's head as they got up.

“Hey uh, could you stay?” He sighed tiredly.

Suitcase smiled warmly.

“Of course, I'm not exactly a fan of sleeping alone anyways.” She said as she got back on the bed and cuddled up into her friend.

They'll be okay.

Somehow, they'll both be okay.
