Chapter 1: Let me grieve

Chapter Text

The sound of laughter filled the small room, drowning out a quiet fire that crackled across from them.
Him and Spelldon were having a little tea party date, they had been sitting and talking in his room for a while now.
He brought the teacup up to his lips and had a sip, then gently brought it back down to the matching saucer in his other hand. Spelldon had gotten him the set for his birthday last year, after he had mentioned offhand he hadn’t celebrated his birthday in years. They were deep magenta with a gold rose pattern. And he always found an excuse to use them.
His Spelldon always seemed to find things that would suit him. “It’s hard not to see the monster you love everywhere you go.” He would have to agree.

Sitting next to his love on his old victorian furniture, Valentine was so caught up in their conversation that he didn’t hear the door slowly opening. He only subconsciously heard the creek of the old wood when it was already too late.

“…Kieran, Baby, you need to stop this…” it was the softest he’d ever heard her voice, …at least in recent memory. He turned his head away, as if that would block the noise.
“Leave me alone mum…”
Instead of footsteps away from him, He just heard a deep sigh. She didn’t listen to him, of course not, she hadn’t in years…
“Darling please… you’re just hurting yourself.” Which was real funny, because he had been doing that for years under her guidance, and she hadn’t cared about his feelings then…

“Why can’t you just let me Grieve!?”
He raised his voice sternly, not quite yelling yet. His long hair whipped him in the face as he quickly turned to face her again. Unfortunately, she was still standing in the doorway…
“Because this isn’t Grieving!” His mother’s voice raising to match his own.
“You’re using too much energy keeping this up! And you refuse to go Feed, You’re going to starve!” Calmly as he could manage, for the sake of his beloved teacup, he quickly put it down and stood up to face her.
“SO?! LET ME!” His arms flew out to his side dramatically
“You never loved me so why do you pretend to care now?!” he brought up his finger to point at her from across the room. Shouting accusations he didn’t want to be true. “And you hated him, hated us! You’re probably Happy he’s dead!”

The silence felt like it was choking him… if he was still human, he would have stopped breathing for so long he’d pass out soon. he hoped she would just take the hint and leave. But instead she had been the one brave …or foolish enough to speak first.
“…you know that’s not true,” valentine couldn’t even look his own mother in the eyes, so he looked at the floor instead, ashamed.
“Do I? …because you sure act like it…”

“You must know that whatever I said, I would never wish this on you.” He almost believed her, he definitely wanted to… she hadn’t been very supportive when he came home with news of a new partner, one who was a boy, one whose heart he didn’t plan to break…
“But this Is why I said this was a bad idea! Emotional vampires can’t get attached-“

“get out…” he cut her off as quickly as he could. He doesn’t need this right now. he had his hands at his sides, clenching his fists, like he could hold in the anger against his palm.
“Val-“ she tried again, he didn’t wanna hear it…
“GET OUT!” His powers reacted to his emotions before he could even properly feel them, a bright light pushing her out the door and slamming it shut.

He just stood there, His chest rising and falling, even if it didn’t have to. trying to stay as still as possible, like if he moved, the room around him would collapse from his anger. His powers had been doing that lately, abilities reacting to his unstable emotions. Mainly because he had an unreliable food source, himself. He had been stuck feeding off of his own love, after…
Through his heavy breathing, he heard a voice behind him.
“…she’s just new to this, she’ll come around eventually.”
He took the time to think about it…
“Yeah… maybe you’re right…” calming down, he sat back next to him.

“Thanks Spell.”
