    Juniper had always gravitated toward science. By her mid-twenties, that pull had carried her all the way to a PhD in theoretical physics. During her early college years, she met Bruce Banner in a shared course; the two briefly collaborated on a paper and struck up an easy friendship—one that faded abruptly when Bruce vanished after his accident.

    She didn’t see him again for years. Not until the day Bruce Banner and Tony Stark appeared at the campus where she now taught, waiting at the back of the lecture hall as she wrapped up class. At Bruce’s urging, Tony invited her to stop by the lab and work with them.
