Hermitcraft and Pets Minizine

Summary:

A minizine about hermitcrafters and their minecraft pets: kitties, horses, and more.

Notes:

This minizine was created as an example work for the CRAZine event! We three are the organizers and mods of the project. We've put a lot of work into it. Sign ups are over and the event is on currently! This work will be moved into the projects' ao3 collection at its conclusion.

Work Text:

page 1: The cover of the Hermitcraft and Pets minizine — a digital art piece by frogkiss / @verdantfucklights. At the top is a blue hand-lettered logo displaying the title. Below is an illustration sketched in red. Season 10 Gem looks up at her smiling camel and pets its neck. The camel seems to smile back. In the background, Scar's Mob Boss mob shop can be seen.

page 2 and 3: A page featuring collage and digital illustration by jibbingjibberish. Zombiecleo is drawn digitally in the center. They look at the viewer, leaning back with a confident gaze. They're holding a brown book that says 'mending', and are wearing a dark blue shirt, pink bra straps, and a black collar that has a golden bell dangling from it. Adorable cats collaged from a magazine are present, along with strips of colorful paper made to resemble cat trees. The background is comprised of full bookshelves.

Page 4 and 5: This is a 2 page collage by contrarian1103. In the background is a landscape painting with a dull grey sky. On the top left of the page are four white panels with the words, in black text, 'mio amore' They are layered in a straight column with the top panel partially cut off on the top of the page. Layered underneath the text is a horse sculpture layered over itself three times. The horse in tinted progressively more red the closer to the top layer it is. The most visible layer being a muted red rather than the original grey of the stone. On the bottom of the page is a white panel that reads, 'but what about all the dead animals?' in italics. In the upper middle are three staggered white panels with text that read, from the top to the bottom, 'I pass five dead animals.' 'Beserk with anger,' and in italics 'culpable.' Nearby are two arrows in a wood block carving art style. In the bottom right hand of the page, a glass vase is filled with shards of a broken porcelain vase presumably once the same shape as the glass that now holds it. Two outlines of squares have been cut out of the vase to reveal the background painting, further disjointing the image. Three panels with the same text are in a straight column beside it. They read, 'do you remember?'

Page 6: A piece of writing by jibbingjibberish on a pale blue paper background. The text is set in a rounded font. It reads 'Etho stares down into those beady eyes. Side Kit stares back up at him. Foxes–they're still new, to Etho. Especially these snowy ones, the way they tilt their heads and run around and around until they get leashed. Not tameable, not like a cat or a dog or horse. Strange, to have something in this world that isn't manipulatable; not like Etho's floating platforms of his Monstrosity that aren't affected by the same gravity as he, the redstone that laces up and down the halls. Strange, and Etho still reaches out and scritches behind Side Kit's ear.'

page 7: A digital illustration by frogkiss / @verdantfucklights of season 11 firefighter pearl holding her black cat with orange eyes. She smiles with an open mouth and cradles the cat against her chest. The cat's paws curl cutely around her arm. The background is orange with blue screen tone dots. Texture is applied to the piece to make it look as if it is printed in some way.

Page 8: The rear cover of the minizine by frogkiss / @verdantfucklights. This is the other half of the front cover illustration, sketched in red. The torso of Gem's camel makes up the foreground of the image, including the seat situated in front of her hump to ride on and her nametag floating above her. Her name is South. Behind, a wheelchair-using man — Scar in his mob boss attire — wears a shocked expression, emphasized by an exclamation point above his head. In the distance, the outskirts of the shopping district turn to forested hills turn to moutains and open sky.
