Work Text:
SAM finds a photograph between the pages of Jake Sisko’s manuscript.
“Is that … ?”
“Joseph Bell,” says Professor Dax. “Kasidy Yates’ second husband. Rebecca’s stepfather.”
SAM’s photonic memory overlays the image with others from the museum. “Bell’s” body language - broad smile matching Jake’s, one arm around his wife, the other cradling their small daughter - is identical to Benjamin Sisko’s.
“You found that out yourself,” says Dax. “To build bridges between worlds, emissaries must leave behind the ones they love … but bridges go both ways, you know.”
SAM re-wraps the book in its soft cloth, photo and all.
“Thank you,” she whispers.
