Work Text:
You sighed as you opened your locker. You hated this school so much. Your older brothers have a bit of a reputation for certain antics and everyone expects the same from you. Your main problem was that because your father was Bruce Wayne you had an endless amount of problems.
You had a lot of people pretending to be your friend, hoping that they could maybe get special treatment or something. Others treated you like they expected you to be a stuck up jerk because your family had money. Then you had the teachers that took special pleasure in tormenting you because they had hell from your brothers.
All in all, a miserable high school experience.
Not to mention your older brother Damian. He was only two years older but he acted like the age gap was so much larger. “Listen to your elders, Y/n.” He had even once said.
Damian was… interesting. When he had first come to the manor, he had been a jerk. A straight up jack ass who many people would pay to slap. He had kinda mellowed out by now, he even made a few friends for himself. He could still be a bitch but it was only around people he really didn’t like.
Which basically was your entire school. You couldn’t exactly blame him, you hated most of the people here too. Just not everyone.
“Y/n!” You hear a high pitched voice call. You look over your shoulder to see the captain of the basketball team coming over. You sighed as you slammed your locker shut. She had been trying to get you to join for the last few years, not because you’d be good at it, but because your father could give them some extra funding.
“What do you need?” You ask brightly, plastering a fake smile on your face to match hers. “Well I need to know what size clothes you wear so I can get your uniform!” She said.
“I thought that Y/n has told you over and over again that they have no interest in joining your pathetic little team.” A deeper voice cut in. You rolled your eyes before turning to Damian. He seemed a bit too smug about this.
“I’ll think about it, okay?” You told her and she quickly nodded before running off. Great. Damian has probably just made your high school life worse. He always did this. He’d scare off people who he thought were bothering you. So the entire school.
You walked off, your brother following closely behind. “Dami, I can walk to my last class by myself.” Damian just shook his head and made you walk a little faster. “Y/n, as your older brother it is my job to escort you and make sure that no harm comes to you.”
“Damian, we're in a school! There is nothing dangerous about being here by myself. Just let me go to class alone.” You said as you stalked off. Your brothers were all a bit protective of you since you were the youngest but Damian took it to a whole new level. You hadn’t been able to figure out why. All you knew was that it was annoying as hell.
Class flew by quickly, thanks to your friends in the last class of the day. You knew that these ones were true friends, since they’ve stuck with you through lots of problems. The bell rang and you all decided to hang out together after school. “Hey guys I’m gonna stop by my locker, alright?” You asked and they all decided to go with you because why not.
“Y/n come on! Pennyworth is waiting.” You heard your brother say and you sighed. Dammit. You had been hoping that you wouldn’t run into him. “I already texted Alfred, he’s okay with it. I’m hanging out with my friends after school.”
Damian sneered at all of your friends. He was immediately suspicious of them, what was their goal? Were they people who wanted money? Were they with you to try and gain some popularity? A combination of the two?
“No you aren’t. You’re coming home with me.” He said as he snatched your wrist and started dragging you away. You turned back to your friends and apologized before he took you out of sight.
“Dami…. Damian! Let me go! I haven’t got to hang out with my friends in a while!” You said as you dug your heels into the ground so that he wouldn’t get you too far. The little shit kept pulling though.
“No. Y/n I don’t trust them so you’re not going to be near them. Now come on!” You ripped your hand out of Damian’s grip and started walking back towards your friends. “Damian, you’re not my father, you can’t tell me what to do!”
“Yes I can, since I’m your older brother. I’m just trying to protect you.”
“Well stop it! I don’t need you to protect me! Just go home and leave me alone!” You shouted as you started walking again. Damian tried to grab you but you dodged. He managed to get a grip on your arm but it didn’t last for long until you punched him in the face.
“Y/n I’m not losing you too!” He shouted as he moved towards the exit of the school. You froze in shock from his words and what he said finally registered in both of your brains.
“Damian, what do you mean by that?” You asked carefully. This was risky territory, talking about Damian’s feelings and all. He ran a hand through his hair and looked away from you. His face was turning red. Was he embarrassed?
“It’s just that…. I’ve lost so many people. Mother, Grandfather, even though they are evil I still miss them sometimes. And then Father keeps disappearing, Grayson keeps leaving the manor, Drake and Todd are constantly fighting with father, leaving me behind. I don’t want you to leave me too or get hurt or killed or-”
“Dami calm down! I’m not going to get hurt. I’m not going to get killed or leave you behind at the manor. But you have to quit being so protective of me. You and all of the others taught me how to fight. I’m probably one of the safest kids in Gotham.”
“I know but I’m your big brother. It’s my job to make sure you’re safe. I just want to protect you.” Damian said as he wiped away a few tears. You wrapped your arms around your big brother and squeezed him tightly.
“You don’t have to anymore. Okay? You’re too young to have to worry about that yet. Go home Dami. Or better yet, go hang out with Jon. Stop trying to be an adult. Start acting like the kid you are, okay?”
Damian broke away from your hug and squeezed you tightly. “Okay. You’ve convinced me. Go be with your friends Y/n. But you better be back before eleven pm or I am going to track you down with Titus. Okay?”
You laughed and gave him one last squeeze. “Alright.”
