Work Text:
“What is all this?” Tim asks when he steps inside the house. He looks around the house and sees flowers. Flowers everywhere. It looked like someone had bought half of the flower shop. They had just unpacked all the boxes and it was starting to feel like home. Home with Lucy, and he didn’t want anything more.
But now—
Their house was filled with flowers, from the kitchen to the living room. Lucy steps towards him with a smile on her face.
“Flowers.” She says. Tim raises his eyebrows at her.
“I can see that.” He says. “Did you buy yourself flowers?”
“No.” Lucy says. “I wish I had thought of that though. They are from Aaron.”
“Aaron?” Tim asks and he hasn’t heard that name in awhile although he knows Lucy still keeps in contact with him. Tim tries to talk to him as well her and there although he’s not as good at it.
“Thorsen.”
“I know.” Tim says. “But why?” Lucy shuffles her feet and she looks like she doesn’t want to say.
“He bought them for becoming sergeant.” She says. “I guess it took awhile for them to get all these here.”
“He—” Tim starts and then he deflates a little. He didn’t do anything to celebrate Lucy when she became sergeant, they were still broken up at the time and it was hectic time with her being on the night shift.
But still.
“It was sweet of him.” Lucy says. “But I mean—”
“It was nice.” Tim agrees and he’s not sure if he wants to thank Aaron or not. He’s not sure if it’s the guilt building up in him a little. Or if he also feel guilty that Aaron thought of it but he didn’t.
“What’s wrong?” Lucy asks and now she’s in front of him and looking up at him.
“It was nice of him.” Tim says. “But I didn’t do anything to celebrate you.” Lucy tilts her head at him.
“You didn’t need to do anything Tim.” Lucy says. “You showed up for me when it mattered and you did that whole feast—”
“You deserve to be celebrated Lucy. You deserve all these flowers. You deserve it.” Tim says. “I know that and I didn’t—”
“We have celebrated plenty since then.” Lucy says with a smirk on her face. She puts her hand on his chest and then moves it up to his face. “Trust me babe. I don’t need you to get me flowers to celebrate me.”
“Still.” Tim says. “I know we weren’t together but we kind of insinuated that something would happen. And I could have—”
“Tim, I know how you feel about me okay?” Lucy says and she does look sincere. “I don’t need a boatload of flowers to tell me that.”
“He did get a lot.” Tim says looking around the house. “Bought out half the florist.”
“Probably.” Lucy says. “But it’s Aaron. And he did it to be sweet.”
“I know.” Tim says but the guilt is still there. “I love you and I’m proud of you. I know I don’t always show it but—”
“But you do.” Lucy says. “You show me every single day Tim.” Tim sighs and he wants to protest but holds it in.
“Well I might be having a few words with Aaron.” He says. “We just got rid of the boxes.” Lucy grins at him and stands on her toes to kiss him.
“How about we go spar and take your mind off of this?” Lucy asks. Tim’s lip twitches into a smile.
That sounded pretty good to him.

“I got you something.” Tim says stepping into the kitchen where Lucy is making some tea. She turns around to look at him and eyes the bag in his hand. He sets the bag on the counter moving one of the vases with some of Aaron’s flowers in it.
“Oh?” Lucy says. “But why? Did I miss something?” Tim shakes his head and gestures for Lucy to open up the bag.
“No.” Tim says. “It’s just something to show you how proud I am of you and how much I appreciate you.” Lucy looks at him, and the the bag again.
“This has nothing to do with Aaron getting me all these flowers?” She asks.
“Maybe a little.” He admits. “I didn’t think of it and if he could send you these as a friend. I could have done something too.”
“Okay.” Lucy says. “I don’t want you to feel guilty—” But Tim just shakes his head.
“Open the present Luce.” Tim says. Lucy gives him a look, and then she starts taking the tissue paper out. She pulls out the frame and he sees the instant she realizes what it is.
“Are these—did you?” She trails off and stares down at the frame. “These are my sergeant’s—”
“Test results.” He finishes for her. “Yes.”
“How did you get them?” Lucy asks and she is still staring at the frame.
“A lot of digging.” Tim says. “It helps I have some pull as watch commander.”
“This is amazing.” Lucy whispers and she finally looks up at him. “You didn’t have to.”
“I know that.” Tim says. “But I wanted to and I thought it would look good in here somewhere.” Lucy gives him a smile and looks down at the frame again.
“Are you sure you want to display this?” She asks but she has a teasing lilt to her voice. “I did beat you.”
“Yes.” Tim says. “I am proud of you both as your live in boyfriend. And your former TO turned Watch Commander.”
“You are the sweetest babe.” Lucy says. “Thank you.” Tim nods and watches as she props it up against the backsplash and then turns back to him.
“You deserve that you know.” Tim says and he comes over to wrap his arms around her waist. “You are a good sergeant. I knew you would pass.”
“You always have believed in me.” Lucy says. Tim nods and it’s true, he always has faith in her. Even back when she was his rookie, it was more understated but it was there.
“I have.” He says and he pushes some hair out of her face and leans down to kiss her. “Now do you want to do some judo throws to celebrate?”
Lucy grins at him and pushes back from. She starts making her way to the backyard and the tosses him a look over her shoulder. “I’d thought you never ask.”

“You know flowers are nice.” Lucy says when they crawl into bed later that night. “But you always know what to get me.”
“That reminds me.” Tim says and he gets out of bed. He goes to the bathroom and pulls out the flowers he got for Lucy. He comes back and hand them to Lucy who takes them with a smile.
“You got me flowers?” She asks. “Why?” Tim shrugs his shoulders and crawls into bed again. He presses a kiss to her cheek.
“Because I wanted to.” Tim says. “And what is one more bouquet of flowers?” Lucy grins at him and puts the flower aside. And then pulls him in for a kiss.
“Thank you. Thank you.” She says. “I love you Tim.”
“You are welcome.” Tim says and he would bring her home flowers everyday if he could. If their house could hold them. “I love you too.”
