Chapter Text
He probably shouldn’t have followed up on a lead just a few hours before the family dinner tonight. Still, it seemed harmless at the time.
Now nightwing was in the middle of making quips while beating up bad guys when he really should be on his way to Gotham. He could already hear the lecture from Damian about time management he is going to get.
It was going to suck, but he was still looking forward to tonight.
Last dinner, it had been just him, Bruce, and Damian, which was still nice. He loved that kid, and hanging out with him was always fun.
And he always enjoyed his time with Bruce; it reminded him of simpler days.
Back then, he saw him as his partner. Their relationship had changed a lot since than they have had their fair share of ups and downs over the years, and now he saw him as his dad. It was surprising how easy it was to think of him as such now.
The best part about tonight was that all his brothers were going to be there
It’s nice to have the family together once in a while without the masks,Tim was going to skip cause he was busy but dick had convinced him to come.
Even Jason was coming. He might have his issues with the Bats, but even he can’t say no to Alfred if he only listened to him like that sometimes.
Dick should really pay more attention to the fight instead of thinking about Jay, because—
Fuck.
One of the guys came at him with a knife, going right for his fucking face.Thankfully it only slightly grazed his cheek.
Great. Now he would have to cover that up with makeup before going, or he would earn himself another lecture about being careful in the field.
Dick knocked the guy out and tied him up along with the rest of his gang, then left them along with the experimental drugs they were going to deal for the police to handle, and made his way back to his apartment.
While on his bike, the wind irritated the cut on his face. It felt itchy he almost wanted to scratch but he knew that was probably a bad idea.
Dick felt his head ache slightly well he did get hit in it once tonight so that made sense he felt a bit off but annoyed about the whole thing more than anything.
As soon as he got back, he barely made it to the bathroom before throwing up
violently.
It was awful, but when it passed, he felt a lot better.
Oh man did he have a concussion, or was he just sick? He decided not to worry about that for now.
He stripped out of his costume and hopped into the shower. The hot water brought him back to life, melting his exhaustion. It had been a long day. He could have stayed there forever, but he had places to be, so he reluctantly
His phone rang it was Bruce, so Dick let it ring out because he was going to see him soon anyway. And started drying his hair.
He opened the cupboard. Man, he really needed to do something about his wardrobe it was ninety percent graphic T-shirts. Well, not that it mattered; he could wear a cardboard box and still look good. Still, he didn’t feel like wearing any of them today, so he pulled out a black shirt. That would do.
He got dressed and paused in front of the mirror, and admired himself for a solid minute.
Man, Barbara was lucky to be with him, he thought.
His phone ringed again. Oh god, he forgot who the guy on other line was.
Of course, he would keep calling until dick picked up, because god forbid if he had anything better to do than chat with him.
Dick answered. The third time he called.
“I’ll be there in thirty. Bye,” and cut it before Bruce could even say a word. Strange it must be the exhaustion from patrol, but he didn’t feel like dealing with Bruce fucking Wayne right now.
He didn’t even want to drag himself to Gotham now either. He just wanted to call it a night, but he might as well go than deal with the complaints later.
He decided to just put a bandage on the cut after disinfecting it. His family would see through any cover-up anyway, and it’s not like it was so serious he should hide it and even if it was, it’s not like any of them care about him that much.
He should really get going now but well, since he is already late, so whats the point of rushing, he should just take it easy
So he took a nap.
