Work Text:
Stoick was trying his hardest to teach Hiccup the basics of metalworking, but he'd grown rusty over the years, and how he was explaining it didn't seem to be getting through to the boy.
Hiccup had always been the type to be easily confused, and it frustrated the hell out of his father. A lot of things about Hiccup seemed to frustrate his father, and this failed teaching attempt was making that incredibly clear.
Just before Hiccup was sure his father would yell at him for being difficult, Gobber walked in and sighed.
"Yer doing it wrong there, Sto" he chuckled, getting a stern growl from the other man. "Here, let me"
"I was trying to teach Hiccup here the basics of metalworking so he can be more useful"
"And you didn't think to ask me?" the blonde teased, kissing the leader on the cheek. Stoick softened a bit at this as Hiccup stared at the interaction. "Silly Stoick"
"I'm right here" Hiccup spoke up. "Y'know... Keep your pants on"
"Hm?" Stoick asked, surprised. Hiccup stared at him.
"How long have you two been..?" the boy asked, causing Stoick to go bright red. Gobber seemed surprised.
"I guess we haven't really thought of it" Gobber laughed. "It just kind of happened, hm?"
"Can you help the boy or not?" Stoick asked, desperately trying to change the subject. Gobber winked at him and turned his attention to Hiccup.
"Here" he said, clamping one end of the metal down with his arm attachment and grabbing the base with his flesh hand. "You wanna start at the end like this..."
