Chapter Text
Evan Buckley, or Buck as everyone called him, had a normal life.
Too normal.
Nothing impressive ever happened in his life.
(The time he said there were 'ghosts' in his apartment doesn't count, since they weren't really ghosts. It was just a bird that had gotten in, and Buck couldn't see it because it was so small)
As a child, he had a 'normal' childhood. If by normal it means that his parents didn't really love him since he was actually born just to be a replacement for his older brother Daniel, who died because of Buck ('Why can't you do anything right, Evan,' his mother reminded him after Buck accidentally dropped a jug full of water), and that his parents ignored him, then yes, Buck had a normal childhood.
The only person who cared about Buck as a child was his sister Maddie. She always looked out for him and healed him when Buck hurt himself intentionally to get his parents' attention.
Buck loved his sister very much and still loves her. She is the only good thing in his entire family. In fact, she is the only person in his family that Buck loves. His maternal grandparents are dead, his paternal grandparents also blame him for Daniel's death, and Buck hates his parents.
He knows he shouldn't hate them, but he can't help feeling hatred for them. Hatred for everything they made him go through as a child, for all the psychological damage they caused Buck, which his sister Maddie helped him address by taking him to a psychologist.
But now, Buck was fine. He was 'healed,' so to speak, but even so, he didn’t talk to his parents unless it was necessary.
Moreover, in the job he had as a preschool teacher, he had gained a new family. The school principal, Bobby Nash, had become his dad, and his wife, Lieutenant Athena Grant, had become his mom. They always invited him to eat at their house or to the family gatherings they had, since Buck was part of their family.
Although at first Buck refused because he didn’t want to be a burden, Athena and Bobby always told him that he had become like another son to them, the other brother to Harry and May. Hearing that, Buck would just smile before accepting their invitation.
He had also made several friends there at school. Two of his closest friends were Hen Wilson and Chim Han. Hen was a preschool teacher just like him, while Chim was a kindergarten teacher. In truth, they had been his first friends after he started working at the school.
Hen had been married to the love of her life since high school, Karen Wilson, while Chim was dating Buck's sister, after having met her when she had brought lunch to Buck, which he had forgotten.
Now they had been dating for three years, and that made Buck happy. His sister deserved all the happiness in the world.
"Just as you deserve to be happy, Buck"
Buck remembered the words his sister had told him one day. And he was happy, really, he was. He had his new family, his friends, his sister, and... Tommy.
Tommy Kinard, his boyfriend for four years. Although Tommy always called him by his name (Evan) instead of Buck, Tommy always told him that he didn’t want to know anything about the information that Buck looked up on Wikipedia, and Tommy always finished before him and didn’t take the time to make Buck feel pleasure during sex; Buck loves Tommy.
Or at least that’s what Buck always told himself over and over again. That he loved Tommy.
Or at least that’s what Buck thought until he met the Diazes and his whole life changed.
It was an ordinary morning for Buck. He had had morning sex with Tommy (but he didn't even enjoy it, he no longer enjoyed it like before), had gotten up, showered, prepared his breakfast and Tommy's, then prepared his own lunch to leave later, leaving Tommy eating.
He didn’t kiss him, and that made Buck feel a little sad. He was always the one who initiated the kisses (not counting the kisses before having sex; Tommy always initiated those), and if Buck didn’t give kisses, Tommy didn’t even remember to kiss him, not even on the cheek or head.
With attitudes like that, Buck's adoptive family didn't like Tommy. In fact, they hated him, even after Buck always told them that Tommy was actually good and just busy with a lot of work.
(What Buck doesn't know is that Tommy is a fucking racist who said extremely racist things out of nowhere to Hen and Karen when Buck wasn't around)
So that's why, and for other reasons too, the guys hate Tommy. But the one who hates him the most is Bobby; if it were up to Bobby, he would keep Buck a thousand meters away from Tommy. In fact, if it were up to him, Tommy would be meters underground, free without charge, thanks to his wife. Athena also hates Tommy and does not like him being near her boy.
But, well, Buck had arrived at school exactly at 7:55 am. This gave him time to put his things in his classroom and return to the school entrance to greet the students.
Buck put his things in his classroom, and when the bell rang, Buck was at the school entrance greeting students with a smile on his face.
Everyone knew it (everyone being his family and boyfriend) that Buck loved children. He adored them; they were so cute and sweet that Buck wanted to have one of his own. He wanted to be able to adopt a child to pamper him, hug him, spoil him, and call him his son.
But there was a little problem with Buck's desire. Tommy didn't want children; in fact, he couldn't stand them. Almost always, when he was at an activity that Buck had to attend with his students, Tommy had a look of displeasure that even the kids themselves hated Buck's boyfriend.
With a smile and a pat on their little heads, Buck welcomed his students one by one while also greeting the parents who warmly smiled at Buck. It was no surprise that the parents also liked Buck; there was something about him that made the parents feel more at ease having their children at school.
Buck sighed with a smile as he looked at the time on his watch, which read 8:15. Classes started at 8:20, so Buck always stayed there until the last student arrived (he also stayed five more minutes after the hour to see if a student arrived a little late).
Buck looked up and saw a large black car parked in front of the school. A little confused, Buck continued watching the car as he went on alert. The last thing missing would be if it were a shooter or a kidnapper trying to do bad things at an elementary school.
Buck watched closely as the front door opened, revealing a man in a black suit with a serious look, going around the car to open the back door, being very careful with something or someone.
Buck kept watching until the man helped down the most adorable child Buck had ever seen in his life, with red crutches that matched the color of the glasses the child was also wearing.
He saw how the man carefully took one of the boy's hands, and they began to walk toward where he was standing, making Buck feel nervous for the moment.
He had never felt nervous before, but there was something about the man and the way he walked so dominantly that made Buck feel nervous about making any mistake. When the man was a little closer, Buck could see that he had tanned skin, almost like light brown skin, but not getting too brown; his hair was dark brown, he had a muscular physique that could be noticed even with his suit on, and Buck could also see that he had tattoos on his arms.
Buck sighed deeply when the man found himself in front of him, looking him up and down while the adorable child looked at him with curiosity. So close, Buck could see that the man had a defined jaw with a beard that was starting to grow, his nose was straight and well-shaped, he had thick eyebrows, and his eyes were dark brown, carrying a darkness and dominance that made Buck's legs tremble.
Apparently, the man saw something in his eyes because he smiled with a predatory smile, showing pointed teeth that made Buck want to feel them on his neck.
Slightly shaking his head, Buck smiled and looked at both of them, trying not to show his nervousness.
"My name is Evan Buckley, but you can call me Buck. I suppose this little cutie here is going to be a new student, right?" said Buck with a smile as he crouched down to the child's level, who looked at him with a small, nervous smile. "What's your name, little one?"
The boy just looked at Buck and then raised his gaze to the man, who nodded with a smile before looking back at Buck with a smile. "M-my name is Christopher... Diaz..."
Buck just smiled upon hearing Christopher's voice and was almost overwhelmed with tenderness. "Christopher, what a lovely name. Can I call you Chris?"
Christopher nodded slowly as he looked at Buck carefully, as if he were studying him.
"Well, Chris, welcome to your new school. I hope you have a lot of fun here," said Buck with the same smile on his lips while doing his best not to adjust one of Chris's blond curls that had fallen on his face. "With your height, you must be about ten years old, right?"
Christopher just laughed while shaking his head. "No, I'm five," Chris replied while showing his whole hand, implying that he was five.
"Oh, it's just that you're so big that I thought you were older," Buck laughed lightly while fixing the curl that had fallen on Christopher's face.
Christopher closed his eyes when he felt Buck's hands arranging his hair and then opened them again, looking at him with a smile. "Papá, aren't you going to greet Buck?" asked Christopher as he gently pulled the hand of the man next to him, making Buck realize the position he was in and causing a small blush of embarrassment to appear on his face.
The man only made a sound as he watched Buck stand up to be at his level, but before standing up, Buck gently touched Chris's curls affectionately.
Buck only looked at the man with a nervous smile while the man offered him his hand. "Edmundo Diaz, pleased to meet you," said the man with a fierce smile, making Buck swallow hard and take his hand, feeling him squeeze it a little. "But you can call me Eddie."
Buck could only nod while feeling his nerves on fire. Eddie's voice, oh my God, his voice...
It was so manly, so deep, and it had an accent that Buck had not heard before but was starting to like even after having heard it just a few seconds ago.
This couldn't be happening. He had a boyfriend, for Christ's sake!
But there was something about Eddie and the way he looked at him that made Buck just want to fall to his knees in front of Eddie and apologize for having had sex with Tommy in the morning, or tell him that he could do whatever he wanted with Buck.
Besides that, there was Christopher, and Buck already felt struck by Cupid's arrow with him. He was so adorable, tender, and looked so much like Buck - in his blue eyes and his blond curls - that Buck's slightly unhinged mind thought that Christopher could be his son.
Oh, he was so fucked.
