The rhythm of the music

Summary:

"You... desire me...?" Enid asked carefully, an unexplainable hope blooming in her chest.

Wednesday just looked at her silently, switching the positions of their arms and taking them back to the dance, taking Enid with her, this time.

Or, at the gala, Wednesday and Enid dance together before operation eliminate pricipal Dort starts.

Work Text:

Enid looked around the ballroom, inspecting the different costumes the Nevermore students and proffessors were wearing to transform themselves to partygoers of a Gothic Venetian Ball.
Enid smilled at a group of first years, giggling at their own their outfits.

She was pacing slightly in the corner of the ballroom. This is where wednesday had told her to meet her. It would be a few more minutes until the opertation to eliminate pricipal Dort would be set in motion. She nervously looked around, scanning the crowd for a certain goth girl, yet no one seemed to appear.
Her pink dress swung lightly around her hips and her pink wig complemented her colourfull eye shadow and rose coloured cheeks. She had put hours in her look, with a result that looked quite good, even if she said so herself. She just hoped that Wednesday would think so as well. Despite their very different aesthetics, Wednesday no longer shied away from her colourfullness (even though she was apparently actually alergic to colour?!).

Soon, the operation would start with her dance routine together with Agnes, but first, she'd get a few minutes alone with Wednesday, to catch up and discuss any loose ends of the plan.

"Your respiratory rate is accelerating by the minute," she heard a voice say from behind her, "calm down or you'll pass out before the fun starts."

Enid smiled to herself and turned around.
The moment her eyes caught the figure now standing before her, she froze in place.

The music and chatter seemed to fade into the shadows of the room, all focus pulled towards the black clad figure with a pull seemingly more powerfull than gravity itself.

The black dress she wore, started with a tight corset, spreading outward in a Venatian skirt on her hips.
She had a black ribbon tied around her neck, making the outfit in to a gothic whole, not a thread out of place.
Her face was even on a whole other level of beauty.
The double winged eye liner around her eyes made it impossible for Enid to look anywhere else. Her dark irises seemed to drink up all the light in the room, the whole vibe bend around her entrance, capturing every ounce of Enid's focus.
The gauze mask in front of her eyes made her look even more alluring.

When Enid turned around to meet Wednesday's gaze, time and space seemed to stop for a moment.
Captivated by her canine smile and shining blue eyes, Wednesday was momentarily rendered speechless.
Instead of her usual thrown-up-by-a-rainbow outfits, this look was exceptional. Still colourfull, but the soft pastel pink made her eyes pop like nothing Wednesday had seen before.
How Bruno could have betrayed her and how Ajax could have let her slip away was beyond her. If she were in their places, she'd never let her go. Those undeserving social butterflies should be thankfull for all the charity work Enid had done by dating them.
Good thing that was all over now.

"Your mother does know how to plan a party". Enid said to her.

Wednesday frowned slightly, "I suppose it is a good distraction".

"Come on," Enid grabed her arm and tuged her to the dance floor, "We've got a few minutes to kill before this whole thing gets set in motion," she said smiling, already moving to the beat of the music.

"This is not a good idea."

"Of course it is!" Enid laughed, "Right now you're the one who needs to calm down. Come on just dance! Have a bit of fun!"

"I despise fun."

"Then do it for me," Enid said with a smile weet enough to attract a whole colony of bees.

Without any further protests, Enid pulled Wednesday fully onto the dance floor.
She placed her hand on Wednesday's waist and opened her palm to invite Wednesday's hand in.

Despite the disapproving look on her face, Wednesday put her hand on Enid's shoulder, and sliped the other into the girls hand.

Slowly, they start moving to the beat of the music, swaying and turning when it feels right.
Enid was doing most of the work, guiding them to the rhythm of the music.

Enid was shaking slightly, the intimacy of the moment making her nerves run wild.
She honestly hadn't expected Wednesday to agree to this.

Wednesday noticed Enid's shivers. It must be because of the full moon, she thought.

"Don't worry Enid," she said reassuringly. "soon this will all be over, as well as the full moon. The risk of becoming a lone wolf will be gone for at least a whole month then."

"But what if I do wolf out? And I do become a lone wolf?", she asked, her anxieties now shifted to a whole other subject.

"Then I will come find you.'" Wednesday tried to reassure her, "And until I have found you, I believe you are very capable of handling yourself," she said with a certainty that made Enid almost believe her words. Almost.

Enid frowns, "That's not what you wrote in your book."

"What are you talking about?"

"Evelyn!" Enid spat, "How did you describe her again? 'In need of Viper's pity and protection', was that it?"

"When did you read that?" Wednesday asked, her eyes widening slightly at Enid's words. Not enough for anybody else to notice, but enough for Enid to see.

"Is that really all you have to say?" She asks, the grim expression still plastered on her face.

"The things you read...," Wednesday started, "That was when Evelyn was first introduced, Enid.
That's not what she is now."

Enid scoffed. "You still wrote it," she said accusingly.

"I also named her to describe how I see you," Wednesday noted.

"Evelyn? Why does that matter?"

"Evelyn means desiderated," she explained.

Enid looked at her confused. "Desiderated? What the fuck is that supposed to mean?"

"It means desired, Enid."

The meaning of the words that Wednesday just said slammed down on her. Hard.
Enid stoped dancing, her mouth slightly agape and staring at Wednesday.
The music seemed to sink into the background, all the vibrations of the atmosphere around them, morphing into slow motion.

"You... desire me...?" Enid asked carefully, an unexplainable hope blooming in her chest.

Wednesday just looked at her silently, switching the positions of their arms and taking them back to the dance, taking Enid with her, this time.

Enid moved to wherever Wednesday was guiding her, her mouth still slightly opened, completely at a loss for words.

When she looked to the side, she saw Agnes near the stage, getting ready for their performance. It was almost time to get started.
Well, it's now or never I suppose, Enid thought.

"Wednesday", she said more confident then she felt.

Wednesday looked up, meeting her gaze.
Before she could think the better of it, Enid leaned in, pressing her lips to Wednesday's.

She cradled Wednesday's face as she moved her lips against Wednesday's.
Wednesday grabbed onto the straps of Enid's dress, pulling her in deeper.

"Enid" Wednesday whispered when their kiss ended all to soon.

They both knew it was time for the operation to begin, even though they wished they could stay in this moment forever.
