Work Text:

If anyone had told Eddie a few years ago that, between him and Steve, Eddie would be the one who’d become a teacher, he would’ve said they were fucking crazy.

And, yet, here is Eddie now; twenty-eight and spending his days teaching music to nine-year-olds because, shockingly enough, he loves doing that and can’t imagine himself doing anything else anymore.

Oh, how things can change over time.

“Hey, babe, don’t forget your lunch,” Steve’s calls out when Eddie is already reaching for the door.

The soft voice makes him stop, though, and Eddie looks up just in time to see his husband emerge from the kitchen with his lunchbox safely packed in a thermal bag in his hands. Steve is still wearing his cute yellow apron, so that means he’s just finished packing the food.

It’s impossible for Eddie’s insides not turn into goo by that adorable sight. Sometimes he’s still a little overwhelmed by how easy it is for him to love Steve, and by how fucking lucky he is for having such an amazing, caring person like Steve in his life.

“Thank you, sunshine,” Eddie says, accepting the surprisingly heavy bag. He quirks a brow, eyeing the thermal in his hands for a moment before looking up at hos husband again. “How much food did you pack in this, Stevie?”

Steve rolls his eyes in a show of impatience, but his cheeks are painted pink when he shrugs.

“The usual amount,” he says. Then, averting his eyes, he adds. “And an extra lunchbox in case Eileen’s mom ‘forgets’ her lunch again.”

To be honest, Eddie should have seen that one coming a mile away. Of course Steve –soft-hearted, sweet, kind Steve—would make sure to pack extra food so Eddie could share with his student; especially after he mentioned that said student’s mom is a single parent who sometimes doesn’t have enough money to send proper, balanced meals for her kid.

Eddie doesn’t mention that giving this food to Eileen might be considered improper behavior and could cost Eddie his job. Steve made this for her with all the love and kindness in his heart, and Eddie’s gonna make sure Eileen gets her lunch today, stupid rules be damned.

His hand comes up to cup Steve’s cheek, then slides down until it rests on the nape of his neck to pull him into a gentle kiss.

“You’re the sweetest person I’ve ever met, did you know that?” Eddie whispers, his fingers carding gently through Steve’s hair, eyes drinking in that pretty blush that’s deepening on his face. “Don’t ever change.”

“I wasn’t planning to.”

Eddie just can’t not kiss his husband again.
