Summary
The weary man stood leaning on his cane, back against the wooden pillar of the quaint platform, as he waited for the train to arrive on the rusty tracks, only a speck in the horizon. In his other hand, a lit cigarette was burning orange, the lazy curl of smoke twisting in the soft breeze.
“Waiting for the kids?” asked a rough voice. Minho turned.
“Yeah,” he drawled, taking a long puff from his cigarette. “I don't know why you are making me, of all people, take care of this.”
Jackson, the mayor, just shrugged, “Not my first choice. You’ll just scare the children.”
Minho huffed, a dry chuckle forcing its way out from his parched throat. “Plenty scared already, I reckon.”

During the early days of WW2, Hyunjin and Seungmin, like most children, are evacuated from the city and brought to the country side where they are taken in by none other than the town's local grouch, Minho. As they settle in, the awfully polite, scruffy looking boys begin understanding what it means to be loved and taken care of. Slowly, they become used to life in the country and make friends with the neighbor boys.
