“Why did you buy so much chocolate?” Lydia looked away from the open refrigerator door, where the cake she had made earlier was, so she could look at Malia, her girlfriend, who was sitting on the kitchen counter, her bare legs dangling as she ate brigadeiro straight from the pan. “Are you trying to become diabetic?”
Malia rolled her eyes, licking the spoon obscenely, and shrugged nonchalantly, offering the girl no reply.
Lydia wrinkled her nose.
She didn’t like some of Malia’s habits. The redhead loved her, that was for sure, but her girlfriend didn’t care about etiquette rules. She was obscene and unfiltered; she didn’t care what people might or would think of her or her unconventional behavior. It was admirable, Lydia had to admit, but she would prefer Malia not to stick a spoon in her mouth and then back into a pan full of the frosting she had prepared for her coconut cake. The girl could certainly wait a few more minutes and savor it with the cake.
Malia didn’t want to go out for Valentine’s Day; she wanted to eat junk food and watch romantic comedies on TV all day, Lydia clinging to her arms, fingers tangling in the soft, strawberry-blonde hair. Lydia knew how much her girlfriend loved chocolate, especially brigadeiro — a sweet treat that Theo, the two girls’ best friend, had discovered. The boy had Brazilian roots through his mother’s family; thanks to that, he had some culinary skills, and he loved to share them with both of them. Malia was his guinea pig in his ‘food experiments’ in the kitchen, as Theo himself called them. It was really fun to watch.
Lydia wasn’t a great cook, but she didn’t mind being in charge of the kitchen in the apartment she shared with Malia; in fact, she enjoyed it. Sometimes, the two girls would lock themselves in the kitchen to try to learn new recipes. This could either go really well or extremely wrong; either way, for her, it was entertainment.
On that special day, however, Lydia decided to surprise her girlfriend with sweets that she knew Malia would enjoy.
“I’m not gonna eat it all today,” Malia finally replied, sticking the licked spoon back into the pan. “I was just taking advantage of the sale.”
The redhead rolled her eyes this time, but her pink lips curved into a silly smile. That was so… Malia. The girl closed the fridge and went to her girlfriend, carefully taking the pan from her hands.
Malia exclaimed, exasperated, her eyes wide, completely offended by Lydia’s refusal.
“You’re not supposed to eat it like that,” the redhead warned, pushing the pan away from her girlfriend. “It’s gross.”
“You’re so boring,” Malia complained, snatching the pan back like a clumsy, sulky child. When Lydia tried to grab it, chocolate chips flew onto her face, hair, and neck. “Oops,” Malia said, immediately dropping the pan in regret. “Sorry,” she apologized sincerely.
Lydia frowned, her fierce gaze fixed on her girlfriend, who now had her hand over her mouth and a flushed face, completely embarrassed.
“Malia, I can’t be—”
“I can fix it,” the girl hurried to say, stepping down from the counter and grabbing her girlfriend by the waist, reversing their positions and pressing her body against Lydia’s, now trapped between Malia and the counter.
“Malia—”
Lydia was interrupted by her girlfriend’s mouth on her neck, her tongue traveling along the trail of chocolate on her skin, now warm under Malia’s touch, dragging down her bare chest and up to her chin, tracing every single bit of chocolate smeared on her skin, until finally, their mouths met.
Lydia let Malia set her down on the sink counter and quickly wrapped her legs around the girl’s waist, feeling her girlfriend’s hands on her body, soft fingers caressing her bare thighs, stealthily slipping under her skirt and playing with the sides of her panties.
“What about now?” Malia smiled against the other girl’s lips, her nose pressed against Lydia’s, both smiling affectionately at each other, their breaths ragged. “Better? Or still gross?”
Lydia grabbed Lydia’s face, pulling the girl in for another kiss, searching for more chocolate on her girlfriend’s lips.
“You bitch,” she muttered, her forehead resting against Malia’s, a wide, silly smile plastered on her rosy face.
The other girl laughed and took the pan back.
“More chocolate?”
With her eyes fixed on Malia’s lips, Lydia replied, “More chocolate.”
