bloodsweat

Summary:

"Vampire," Madeleine says through her hysterical giggles. "You're a vampire. All this time - and I have been awful to you."

Work Text:

"Where's the light switch?" Claudia asks, so softly that Madeleine thinks she's imagining it. There is a man dying wetly in the corner of her shop, his neck torn open, bleeding out on her nice clean floor. Madeleine's seen a lot of corpses, but it never gets any easier watching a man turn grey, colour draining from his pasty skin.

"Don't look at him," Claudia says. "Just - it's easier if you don't look."

Madeleine blinks. Her eyelashes are wet, and she rubs her face with the back of her hand. Somewhere along the way she's lost both her shoes - when she was dragged to the bedroom? When she was fighting back on the bed, kicking and screaming? She can't even remember getting from the bed onto the floor, her body trembling. She thinks she might faint. She's never fainted before.

"Okay, we're going onto the floor," Claudia says firmly, and takes hold of Madeleine's bare arms. She gingerly leads her backwards into the bedroom, where Madeleine collapses on the floor in an inelegant heap, black spots dancing across her vision.

"The light switch," Claudia says, kneeling down in front of Madeleine. "Sweetheart, where's the light switch?"

"After everything I've said," Madeleine says. There's blood on her tongue, she doesn't know whose. "You want to fuck me in the dark."

Claudia's eyes widen. Madeleine laughs before she can stop herself, bubbling out of her like champagne from a bottle. She covers her mouth with her hands, rocking back and forth on the floor, and Claudia reaches forward, then hesitates. Her hands hover above Madeleine, like she's scared Madeleine will crumble like a moth at the smallest touch.

"Vampire," Madeleine says through her hysterical giggles. "You're a vampire. All this time - and I have been awful to you."

"I liked it," Claudia says. "If I didn't, you wouldn't still be walking."

Madeleine swallows the last of her hysterics and lets out a little hiccup instead. She's going to be sick. Claudia's eyes are so beautiful, staring into Madeleine, blood crusting over her chin. A messy eater, like a little puppy, Madeleine thinks stupidly. Burying her face in her food.

"Were you starving?" Madeleine asks.

Claudia thinks it over, then shakes her head. "I eat nearly every night."

She must have murdered hundreds of people. She must have murdered half of Paris. She killed tonight, not to sate her own hunger, but to save Madeleine. To make a spectacle.

Madeleine knows what hunger tastes like, in more ways than one.

Madeleine reaches out to Claudia, hooking her fingers into her awful cardigan, the wool rough against her skin. She tugs, and Claudia allows herself to be dragged forward, until their foreheads are pressed together, sweat against sweat. Madeleine can smell the blood on Claudia's mouth, and it doesn't scare her like she thought it would.

"You don't have to," Claudia murmurs. "Don't have to thank me."

"You think I am thanking you?" Madeleine says. "I have three bodies in my shop I have to get rid of now, you little nightmare."

The corners of Claudia's mouth quirk upwards, and Madeleine spies fangs, sharp and pointy. She wants to know what they'd feel like on her body, on her throat, her chest, between her legs. She wants to see more. She wants to aim a light at Claudia, and see what she's been hiding all this time.

"Do you want me to explain?" Claudia asks quietly, almost afraid, and Madeleine shakes her head.

"I want you to kiss me," She says, and Claudia twitches. "That is what I want. A good kiss, mind, not like that soldier boy."

"But I've only ever kissed little boys," Claudia says, hissing the syllables.

"That's okay," Madeleine says. "I've never kissed a little girl."

Claudia huffs at that, and Madeleine grins, because that's the Claudia she knows. She pulls Claudia into a proper open-mouthed kiss, tasting the blood and sweat on her tongue, and Claudia whimpers, the two of them collapsing down against the floor. Madeleine knows what she's doing, and Claudia is so sweet, her tongue licking into Madeleine's mouth like an inexperienced boy.

"You can tell me to stop," Claudia says, voice hoarse.

"I don't want you to stop." Madeleine says, "So do not stop."

"Bossy," Claudia says, and Madeleine reaches out with her thumb to prick the pad against her fangs. "Madeleine."

"What?" Madeleine asks, and sucks the blood from the thumb. It tastes like iron, like a penny, she doesn't see how Claudia could want it so badly. Maybe Claudia wants blood the same way Madeleine wants Claudia.

"I could kill you," Claudia says, and takes hold of Madeleine's hand, lapping at the wound. She moans, eyelashes fluttering shut, and Madeleine throbs between her legs.

"Anyone could kill me," Madeleine says. "I'm not afraid of you."

"You should be," Claudia says, those glittering eyes staring at her. "I'm dangerous."

"I don't care," Madeleine says, and lays her head against the floor, hair spread out like a halo. Her thumb burns like she's taken it to an iron, and she doesn't care, not when Claudia is straddling her, blood staining her face "You think I've never fucked with danger?"

"You are a very strange girl, you know that?" Claudia says, like she's no longer human at all, like she's some creature, and not just a girl in an ugly outfit, fumbling through her first lesbian experience. "Probably the strangest girl I've ever met."

"You are very lucky to have meet me." Madeleine says. "Who else would fuck you like I will?"

"Are you going to fuck me?" Claudia asks, and Madeleine notes the little hitch in her words.

"Of course," Madeleine says. "So come here and kiss me. With your fangs."

Claudia studies her for a long moment, and Madeleine stares back, not breaking her gaze. She is the prettiest girl that Madeleine has ever seen, and Madeleine hears Claudia scoff inside of her head, like she thinks Madeleine is the idiot.

Then Claudia ducks her head, fangs glinting in the light, and does what Madeleine demands.
