Work Text:
Diana walks out of the party disappointed. It was referred to as a seminar for world leaders to discuss problems, which was a massive lie, as everyone spent the whole event getting drunk and being crass. It won’t be over until half an hour later, but Diana simply cannot take more of their hooliganry.
She almost wants to fly off, but decides not to engage in something so overly dramatic.
Diana walks to the woods near the property, the ground transitioning from neatly manicured grass to an organized chaos of flora. She also takes off her shoes, which are black high heels that are far too impractical to romp around a forest in.
The noise of the party fades behind her, replaced instead by the sounds of wildlife flitting around. They quiet slightly when Diana passes by, which she won’t fault them for, because it’s only reasonable to be wary. She comes to a clearing, created by a fallen tree, and sits down in the grass.
Diana then lays on her back and exhales, staring into the cloudless, afternoon sky.
Maybe the gods are staring back at her, but as far as she knows, she’s merely looking at the expanse of space, right now cloaked as blue, darker in the center and lighter at the edges.
It's magnificent, truly, to realize how dwarfed one is by the universe. Diana is practically divine compared to most, but even she is just a fraction of all the things happening in total.
A butterfly lands on her shoulder, and she slowly turns her head to look at it. It rests for a short while, but then flutters off, wings catching sunlight beautifully as it does.
Diana lies perfectly still, attuned to the forces around her. Her goal since leaving her home was helping mankind prosper, but that mission has been so fraught with complication.
In any case however, even if she fails completely and humanity destroys itself, they cannot possibly take everything with themselves. Everything else will adapt, and a kind of stability will be reached. This is a nice solace for Diana, as she stretches out, grass and weeds tickling her skin, various animals living their lives around her.
