Notes:

I couldn't stop myself from doing the tiniest (and most obvious) reference to Rae's Dino AU but in my defense I just love it so much I can't stop thinking about it.

Kudos and comments are apreciated!

Work Text:

“Oh c'mon! I mean look at this! How can you look at this little guy and not want to buy it, beautiful?”

The store clerks around the expecting couple couldn’t stop the giggles from escaping. The gorgeous couple had been doing the same thing for the past few hours, the redhead woman would grab a toy, the blue-haired woman would try and say no and after a small pout their toy collection grew bigger. It was downright adorable.

“Vi Kiramman,” Caitlyn groaned as she looked down at a dinosaur plushie. It was blue and it had a long neck, it was truly adorable. “It is too big. Put it back.”

“It isn’t too big! Our little muffin will grow fast, they need big toys!”

“No they don’t!” The pregnant woman laughed loudly at her wife’s reasoning.

“But it is perfect!”

“Vi…”

It was a losing battle, the woman knew it from the moment they stepped into the mall. The redhead wanted to buy anything they could, wanting to give their child the best and everything she didn’t have growing up. Caitlyn knew it and found it sweet, but glancing back at the pile of plushies she could only think about the bratty girls she had had the displeasure of meeting when she was a kid.

“If you truly want that one, you have to leave two.” She finally relented.

“You got yourself a deal, beautiful.” The woman grinned before leaving a soft kiss on her lips and searching through the toys for the ones to leave behind. “There we go. Shall we pay?”

“Finally,” the pregnant woman cheekily muttered, standing up from the chair the workers had offered her. “Let’s go. We still have to buy some clothes for them.”

Caitlyn approached the worker to pay and the woman on the other side of the counter smiled. “You got yourself a good one there, ma’am.” She whispered as she watched Vi tidying up everything they would leave and helping the other workers put everything on bags to take home. The blue-haired woman smiled widely, glancing back at her partner.

“I know I do. She is the best, isn’t she?” She offered the woman her card before giggling at the stranger’s nod. “If anything, she is too good, I will have to keep her from buying everything she sees.”

Vi instantly made her way to Caitlyn, carrying all the bags on one arm and offering her free arm to her partner. “Everything alright, beautiful?” She asked after walking out of the store.

“Everything is perfect. Now let’s go look at baby clothes.” The pregnant woman giggled at the way Vi’s eyes lit up and she knew she was restraining herself from picking her up and carrying her so they would get there quicker.

If they had a rough time deciding what to buy at the toy store, they would easily find out that buying onesies isn’t much better. From the moment they stepped into the boutique they started grabbing everything they could.

Caitlyn picked up a beautiful green set of a onesie and a matching hat with the design of a tree going up the front of the onesie and some butterflies going up into the hat. She loved it. She then found some baby shoes and grinned as she found ones that imitated Vi’s favorite brand, quickly adding them to the cart. She grabbed another onesie, this time one with a hoodie. It was brown and it had teddy bear’s ears attached to the hood, and the footies and mittens simulated paws. She pictured their muffin wearing it and almost sobbed on the spot.

Vi couldn’t stop herself from buying almost everything. She grabbed a t-shirt that said “My mommy loves me” with some hearts surrounding them and she added it to her own cart. She found one that said “My mothers are the strongest women ever” and she couldn’t resist. She teared up once she saw one that said “I love my mama and her tattoos” and ran to show it to her wife.

“Caitlyn, look at this one!” She cried out as she held out the shirt. The happiness that came from finding one that could represent herself as mama instead of mommy, like most of the previous stores had offered, was obvious.

The blue-haired woman glanced down and read the text on the shirt, a soft smile appearing on her lips. “It’s adorable, that one is coming with us. Do you like this one?” She asked as she looked down at a shirt and pants pajama set with bunnies all over the fabric.

“I love it,” the woman answered before hugging her wife from behind, unconsciously using her hands to lift her belly for a few moments. Vi had started doing that any chance she got after she read it would help Caitlyn, and once she did it and the blue-haired woman told her that it felt great, she refused to stop. “What else did you get?”

They walked around for a while until the redhead froze, her eyes locked on some mannequins in front of them. Ever since they started buying everything for their baby a few weeks ago, they had realized the small amount of same-sex matching clothing for families. Anytime they found anything cute it came with the words “mommy” and “daddy”. But Vi finally saw something.

“Cait,” she whispered.

“Yes darling?” The woman absentmindedly answered, looking anywhere but where Vi wanted her to.

“Look,” she pointed towards the clothing.

The blue-haired glanced towards where her wife was pointing and her smile widened. It was adorable, if somewhat cliché. The baby’s shirt said “I love my moms”, one shirt said “Mommy” and the last one had “Mama”. It was perfect for them.

“Go ask the clerk if they have some in our sizes. I will wait here, I see a chair right there and I need to sit down.” Caitlyn whispered and smiled when Vi refused to leave until she helped her sit down.

The redhead quickly searched for someone to help them and got the family set, coming back with the biggest grin on her face. “I got the goods!” She playfully said before leaving a kiss on her wife’s forehead. “Do you want to pay and go home?”

“Yes please, can you handle it? I’m rather comfortable right here.”

“Just stay here and keep growing our muffin. I’ll be right back.”

Caitlyn felt so happy, watching Vi walking around almost floating from the happiness and excitement was a sight to behold. The redhead was usually so stonefaced in front of others, so watching her allowing herself to be happy while shopping was beautiful. God she was so in love with her wife, a giggle escaping her lips as she watched the woman come back with every bag they had gotten that day.

“Shall we, beautiful?” She offered her arm, looking incredibly goofy with their bags in only one arm.

“You will get hurt! Use both arms, Vi.”

“And let you walk around without holding my arm? Never. I got this, beautiful. Just hold on,” she winked and smirked once she felt her wife’s fingers wrapping around her bicep. “Let’s go home”

“Yes please. I’m exhausted.” The women made their way to their car and once they were situated, Caitlyn closed her eyes. “Wake me up when we make it home.”

“I’ll try, but if I have to I will carry you. Don’t worry your pretty head on it.”

The blue-haired woman managed to giggle, already half asleep. “Whatever.” She whispered before falling deeply asleep.

Vi honest to God tried to wake her up once they arrived home, but the only response she got was louder snores. She brought their shopping into the living room before coming back to the car, gently unbuckling the woman and carrying her into their home and towards their bedroom. While she was climbing the stairs Caitlyn woke up for a moment.

“We are home?” She asked drowsily.

“Yes, beautiful. Just sleep, I’m here.” The redhead whispered back.

“‘Kay,” the woman said before snuggling to her wife. “I love you.”

“I love you too. Both of you,” she said as she laid the woman on their bed and took off her shoes. “Do you want me to change into your pajamas or are you comfortable, beautiful?”

“Comfy. Can we snuggle?”

Vi chuckled before kicking her own shoes off and getting in the bed next to her wife, making sure the covers were tight around her. “Of course we can. Good night, beautiful.

“Night darling.” The blue-haired woman whispered back before falling asleep.

“Good night, muffin,” Vi whispered and rested her hand on Caitlyn’s stomach, caressing it before following her wife and falling asleep while holding the loves of her life.
