Hayden is just finishing up another question when his daughter collides into his legs. Without missing a beat he scooped his four year old daughter up into his arms and glanced over to where Jackie stood looking mortified clutching Jade. Hayden smiled reassuringly at his wife and turned back to the reporter who was laughing at the new development.
”Hello, who might you be?” The reporter asked Ruby. Ruby clutched Hayden’s neck tighter but smiled
”I’m Ruby!” She said proudly.
The reporter smiled and Hayden laughed
”You here to help daddy answer questions?” He asked Ruby, who nodded.
The reporter ran with it
”well Miss Pike, are you going to be a hockey player one day?” Ruby smiled.
“Yes!”
”and what number would you have if you played?” Asked the reporter.
“24!” Said Ruby, like it was obvious. Shane, who had been in an interview right next to Hayden let out a little laugh at that, patting Hayden on the back.
”24? You wouldn’t want your dad’s number?” The reporter asked in surprise.
Ruby scrunched up her face
”no. I want to be the best hockey player, and Uncle Shane is the best hockey player!”
Hayden laughed and Ruby titled her head
”I guess that Jade can have 35, because she’ll be the second best.”
Hayden snorted
”Okay, enough being mean to your sister in the press for tonight. Go find mommy!” He said to his daughter placing her onto the ground gently, Jade beelined through the crowd straight to Jackie who smiled at him and nodded her head towards the door.
