Kris really wanted to be able to go back in time sometimes. To just be able to use some huge machine to revert back whatever was happening, leaving no memory of it in anybody's mind but theirs. Hell, maybe not even theirs.
Today, specifically the fourteenth of February, they were wishing that more than they ever had. It was so out of the norm for them to actually have somebody other than Noelle to go out with somebody on valentines day, let alone get a couples menu with them. Azzy would tease them on every Valentines, ever since they were about 12 or so. He’d always talk about how he was sneaking around to be able to spend the day with Dess at their age. They knew he was just joking, but they couldn’t help it when they felt like cursing him out for jinxing this.
Well, it wasn’t that they were particularly upset about it. In fact, this was something they dreamt of for so long, daydreaming of the exact scenario they were in whenever they had the free time to do so. If this was a daydream, they’d probably be kicking their feet and hugging their pillow extra tight right now.
From where they sat, waiting while anxiously tapping their foot, they could see the bunch of decorations that were placed on QC’s. Pink and red heart shaped balloons hung from the ceiling, heart shaped LED lights glued to the walls. It felt out of character for a place in hometown to be this decorated for any reason other than christmas, but it wasn’t their business to butt into. They sighed, stopping themselves from biting their nails by opening up the menu placed in front of them. It was.. the same as ever, except for a few new drinks placed on the beverage section. Maybe they could have it with the crazy discount they were going to get from having a ‘date’ with them.
Their head shot up the moment they heard the creak of the glass doors. It had to be Susie this time— they told that to themselves about twenty times now— they could hear how fast their heart beat was compared to the slow paced love song blasting from the small radio on the counter. God, they felt like such a loser. They weren’t supposed to be like this towards someone, let alone somebody that used to be their bully.
They brought a hand up nervously to sign Susie ‘over here’. This was all such a bad mistake. They could feel dread run over their entire body at every step she took towards them.
“Hey.” Susie said, placing her small dark purple bag on the diner couch before sitting down and placing her arms on the table. She paused to look at them with a concerned expression before speaking up again. “Uh.. are you okay?”
“Huh?” They stuttered, the same dumbfounded expression on their face from when they heard her talk to Noelle about how they were a “good flirter”.
“You’re like.. red.” She snickered, a grin forming at her face. They knew all too well what teasing comment they were about to receive. “Heh. I’m flattered that I have this effect on you.”
“Pfft. You don’t.” They turned their head to the side, fidgeting. They sure as hell were glad Berdly wasn’t here to make a joke about how they were a.. tajun dere? “You wish you did.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Susie said, waving one hand in the air. “So.. valentines, huh? What do we even do..?”
“Um. Couple things, I guess..” They said, keeping their head down. They couldn’t handle another moment of embarrassment. “I mean— not that we’re a couple. It’s just that it’s valentines day. Y’know.”
“Shit, I was gonna buy you flowers..” Susie grinned, trying to get a look of their face after she said that. They covered it as soon as they noticed. “Heh, maybe we should stop by your dad’s store so I can get you some later on.” She grabbed their hand laying on the table, and they were way too flustered to pull away.
“U-um, yeah.” Angel above, were such an idiot. They were dumb for ever agreeing to this. “Maybe we should. We probably shouldn’t, though. My dad.. probably wouldn’t leave me alone about it if he saw you with me today..”
“Oh. Yeah.” Susie looked down. “I wouldn’t want to be seen as like, a bad influence in Ms. Toriel’s eyes as well.. he’d, uh, tell her, right?”
“If she picks up the phone.” They smiled, making an awkward expression at the sight of Susie’s hand covering theirs. Was it always this hot in here..? “I’m glad you’re out with me today.. I mean, because it’s not fun being alone on valentines. Don’t get the wrong idea, or anything.”
“Yeah.” She rolled her eyes, groaning. “It’s always so annoying seeing couples pass by hand-in-hand from my window when I don’t have anybody. It’s.. great to have somebody, for once.”
“Yup.” They could do something very stupid. They could ruin it all, say the two words that could either make their day or fuck up everything between them. They could confess right here and now, on February 14th. “Susie, why’d you.. choose to go out with me today, anyways..?”
“Huh?” She lifted a brow up, giggling at the question. Was that stupid to ask? “Who else would I go out with?”
They shrugged. “Noelle. Hell, even Ralsei. Literally anyone else but me.” They pulled their hand away. looking down.
“Why not you..?” She questioned. They felt like they were about to faint from how pathetic they felt like this. “I’m confused, dude. Do you not want to be with me today..?”
“N-no!” They yelled out fast, maybe a little bit too loud for a public environment. “That’s not.. what I meant.. at all.”
“Then what do you mean?” Susie seemed mad. They didn’t even expect her to take that too seriously. “That you’re not deserving of this, or something? Is that what you’re going to say?”
“No.. I mean..” They shrugged, smiling to their best ability to ease the tension. “Don’t worry about it.” But maybe, deep down, they wanted her to. “Love you.”
“What?” Susie’s eyes snapped wide open, no trace of her previous frustration.
“Nothing!”
