Notes:

The chapter lengths are pretty inconsistent, and the later chapters are much longer than the earlier ones...
But yk I tried to keep this short

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Flecks of burnt pages and ash spiralled from the remains of books, whilst the thick scent of smoke choked the air. The ancient wood of the bookshelves began to catch fire as well, to the dismay of the cookie watching it all. The Keeper couldn't bring himself to see the destruction, not when he couldn't do anything about it. He could only focus his attention on the one who caused it: The Fount of Knowledge. Someone who was baked to spread the truth and wisdom all throughout Earthbread, his love. How could he be the one to cause this destruction?

"Oh, the tragedy..." The Fount sang. "All of these harsh truths, burned to meaningless ashes." Despite his words, there wasn't an ounce of sadness within him.

"Why?" The Keeper uttered silently. His eyes were wide with horror, the fire searing away any moisture from the tears that would've threatened to fall. "I simply thought my Spire could use some redecorating." The Fount replied in a casual manner, making his way over to the Keeper. "Don't you agree?"

"You're wrong." The Keeper shoots back, "You wouldn't rid the Spire of— of your life's work." The Fount looked like he was about to laugh. "Tsk tsk..." He tutted, "And I thought you knew me well, my librarian."

"Fount—" The Keeper was cut off. "That's not my name." The other’s voice gree harsh. The Keeper stiffened, his fingers twitching with indecision, before correcting himself. "Shadow Milk Cookie. Please, reconsider things."
