   Saiki jumps about 3 feet and clasps his hand to his mouth.

   “Saiki, are you okay?” Hairo’s voice comes from the other side of the door.

   Just his voice.

   It’s silent.

   Completely silent aside from the concerned words coming from the other side of the door. Did everyone disappear? No, that can't be it; he can’t hear Hairo’s thoughts either. Where is his telepathy? He checks his hands for his germanium ring, but it's nowhere to be found.

   “Saiki? Answer me, or I’ll have to knock this door down!”

   ‘I’m fine.’

   “Saiki? I’ll count to three. 1..”

   So. His forced telepathy isn’t working either. What a pain.
