Work Text:
One benefit of her nephew befriending a billionaire, May supposes, is that she has no qualms with spending money on her or Peter. May very rarely took her up on those offers, she was raised better than that. However, this evening was one of the times she wasn't able to say no.
Tony had shown up to her apartment in a sparkly red dress, grin already plastered on her face, and asked if May'd like to go along to a party as her plus one. "I'm already running late, so if you don't come I'll just have to go alone," she'd said, not at all trying to hide a spare dress behind her back. "Besides, Pete said he's staying at MJ's. I couldn't possibly leave his aunt all alone for the night."
It took Tony a while, but eventually she got May to agree, and got her into the black dress Tony had brought for her.
And now here they are, standing around some fancy ballroom. "Is this all you do at these things?" May asks. "Stand around and smile for cameras?"
"Basically," Tony responds, sipping her champagne. "Well, sometimes I head over to the dancefloor."
"Really?"
"Mhm, unfortunately I just have no one to dance with."
May can't help but laugh, recognizing the tone. It's the same one Peter uses when he's trying to convince her to let him patrol late. If she didn't know any better, it wouldn't be hard at all for her to come to the misconception that Tony was the one who taught him that trick.
However, May does know better. She knows well enough to be able to see right through the little pout. Fortunately for Tony, though, she's just a little enamored by the other woman.
"If that's the case," May smiles, holding out a hand, "may I have this dance?"
