Desperate Measures

Summary:

“What do you propose then?” He already had an idea. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t like it.

“Flux, I know this will sound absolutely crazy but I need you to hear me out.” When Flux nodded he continued.

“I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend.”

Or, Saps slips up and makes a series of questionable decisions that ends up in him dating his best friend! Best friend that he absolutely does not have a crush on.

Chapter 1: Questionable Approach

Chapter Text

Saparata had always wanted to pursue a dual degree, however, his university never really allowed for it. But when he heard that a nearby university, just 20minutes away from his apartment offered part time degrees in a schedule that was ridiculously perfect for him, and where also some of his college credits could help him skip some classes, he didn’t doubt in signing up.

That is how he found himself in Strength university. He had already finished a whole semester, and yes, it was rough at first. But it wasn’t as bad… that is until you take into account the people. Not that they are mean or anything, most of them were super thoughtful. The issue was, they were rather… exasperating. For example, one of the first friends he had made was Sharpness, blonde, striking green eyes and fairly tall. Really skilled at martial arts, as well as having a great sense of combat. But that was it. When put in any other scenarios, he was as good as useless.

There were also other people, such as Jude, he was smart and calculated, such a nice guy to have a conversation with. The downside is that the guy was always scheming! You never knew if he actually cared or if he was just playing along to later trap you with his manipulative shenanigans. Another remarkable friend he had made was Tai, but he was always fighting with a Luigi guy, mostly over the phone. Saps had never met him in person, and honestly, based on their screaming matches, the exasperated look in JudeLow’s face and the mocking grin in Sharp’s, he wasn’t too fond of the idea of being in the middle of those two.

One day as he was helping Sharpness study for one of his midterms, the conversation of crushes came up.

How he loved talking about crushes. With Sharpness, nonetheless.

If there is one thing that is painfully obvious about the blonde, is that he is in love with Jude. Sharp, in all his prideful facade, of course refused to acknowledge it. And Saps? Well Saps was getting fucking tired.

“Dude, I just don’t understand why you just don’t accept the fact that you’re into JudeLow.”

“That is because I’m not!” He spoke a little too fast for his liking, sipping on his tea to try and hide his embarrassment, failing in the process.

“Yeah, sure. Look, you can deny it all you want but everyone sees it. The more you deny it, the more you’re digging your grave for when you finally admit it. Tai is going to have a field trip once you two get together.” Saparata spoke, absentmindedly stirring his latte while eyeing his notes that were long forgotten for a couple of minutes already. He really should go back to studying… but teasing Sharp is always more fun.

“You’re talking as if we are ever going to get together.”

“It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.” The next thing the white haired man felt was a smack on his arm. One that hurt more than what he cared to admit. “Ouch! What was that for?”

“Don’t say stuff like that!” Sharp whisper-shouted to Saps. “I am just stating the facts.” He responded in the same silly way as the boy sitting opposite to him did previously.

“You talk as if you already had someone.”

Now, Saparata really didn’t know why he said what he did. Maybe it was the fact that he had stayed up late writing an essay for one of his classes, maybe it was the smack he had received earlier messing with his brain. Or maybe it was how his gaze focused on a purple orchid nearby the cashier, the flower reminding him of a very particular someone.

“There you would be wrong, I do have someone.”

Fuck.

Absolute fuck.

He was screwed! Why did he say that? Saparata didn’t have anyone, he had never dated anyone in his life. Well, besides in kindergarden when he said he had a partner and he would boast to anyone who was willing to hear a 5 year old talk about the potential love of his life. But he didn’t remember any of it, just teases from his siblings from time to time just to torture him for their own personal entertainment at the expense of his not-so dignified person! This, however, was a massive deal. Sharpness would never. Never. Live this down, not until he showed up with someone and kissed or something.

“Ooohh, our dear Saps has someone in his heart? Is that what I’m hearing?” Saparata was not looking at him, he was too deep wallowing in self-embarrassment to do so. Still, he didn’t need to look at Sharpness to know he was smiling.

Saparata was a dead man.

He was spiraling, his mind trying to make sense of the treacherous words spoken from his very own lips. He could barely hear Sharpness questions and pleas to know who his mystery lover was. “Who are they? Do I know him? Is it the friend you always talk about but you never introduced to us? C’mon tell meeee!”

He hastily stood up, putting his stuff together almost mechanically, his already very pale face was somehow paler, the consequences of his actions weighing on him. He was probably being a bit dramatic but the situation justified it. “Sorry Sharp, I gotta go. I forgot I had to do… something, we can reschedule another day! Bye!” He stammered while walking out of the coffee shop. He left before hearing what the blonde boy had to say in retaliation. He’d apologize properly next week, but for now he had more urgent matters to attend to. Such as fixing whatever mess he had gotten himself into. He took his bike and headed towards to the only place that he knew he could find help.

Fluixon was sitting on his desk, scribbling something in his notes. Immersed in calculating dimensions for his next architectural model when the doorbell rang. He didn’t pay too much mind to it, thinking it was one of Cyn’s friends. But when the ringing didn’t stop he stood up walking towards the door, slightly annoyed at whoever was behind the obnoxiously tall door.

Greater was his surprise when he found that behind such a door was none other than Saparata. His best friend. And although he was used to Saps coming to visit out of nowhere, he always sent a text beforehand, even if it was two minutes before he rang the bell. But he never looked so… disheveled. “Saps?” He asked in bewilderment. The white haired boy looked at him with eyes full of misery and affliction. Before he could say anything though. Saparata started talking, a little too fast for anything to be properly understandable.
“Okay, okay. Slow down. I can’t understand anything you are saying! Let’s go inside first.” Fluixon lips twitched while he closed the door and started walking the boy to his room where they could talk more calmly. Once their destination was reached and the door was closed so no eaves dropper, meaning, Cynikka can’t hear their conversation. Fluixon looked back at Saparata and without any need for words, Saparata knew exactly he needed to explain himself now.

“Remember Sharpness? Well, I was studying with him today and somehow the topic of crushes came up. Don’t ask how, I have no idea. One conversation took place and he ended up saying something like ‘is not like you have someone’ and I don’t know what got into me, I swear I was possessed by something else that I might have ended up saying that I, indeed had someone. Flux, I’m so screwed!” Once Saps had finished his little monologue he looked at the raven haired expectantly. What followed was the unceremoniously hysterical laughter coming from the boy. Saparata wanted to be mad, and he would be, if he wouldn’t have been distracted by how beautiful it sounded.

He then, of course, came back to his senses. “What are you laughing at? Can’t you see I’m suffering here?” He groaned as he threw himself face off to the bed for dramatic effect.

Fluixon then sat on the bed next to Saps, once his laughter calmed down, he spoke. “Sorry, sorry, but what happened after? You know, after you blatantly expressed how you hold a significant other close to your heart?” Saps started to regret coming to Flux for help, but honestly, he was his only choice. Besides, he wouldn’t admit this to his face, but Flux was the most trustworthy person he knew, if someone was to be by his side, he would choose him every single time without a doubt. And he knew Flux would choose him as well. Even if that meant a little teasing in between. He softened a little at the thought and briefly answered the question. “I sort of panicked and bolted…”

To his credit, Flux didn’t laugh anymore and just sat there thinking of a way to save his best friend from his predicament. “Okay, are you going to tell him the truth?”

Saps immediately sat up and looked him straight in the eyes. Violet meeting bright gold, mixing forming a perfect rising sun view. “Absolutely not. Chances are Sharp let his tongue loose already and even Pandora is hearing about it now. Rumours fly Flux, especially if they are at the expense of your friends. If I wish to conserve what little dignity I have left. Being truthful is not an option.” As much as Flux wanted to counter, the certainty and seriousness in which the boy in front of him was talking made him stop.

“What do you propose then?” He already had an idea. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t like it.

“Flux, I know this will sound absolutely crazy but I need you to hear me out.” When Flux nodded he continued.

“I need you to pretend to be my boyfriend.”
