Chapter Text
Light reflected off the water, the waves highlighted under and the shadows in blurry blobs moving endlessly. Throwing the hook into the water with a splash, Wemmbu flinched back at the water hitting his face.
“HEY! Watch where your throwing that thing!”
Egg only snickered, reeling the rod back since he hadn’t thrown it far enough.
“Maybe don’t stand too close then?”
Wemmbu rolled his eyes, looking through his inventory, none of the fishing rods were marked, he hadn’t gotten around to labeling the strikes and orbital rods yet.
Grabbing one of the high durability ones, just sort of hoping it was the right one, Egg would KILL him if he bombed their new base.
Egg looked over at Wemmbu, showing him a book he managed to catch
“Yo!! Luck of the sea is high-key op.”
“Maybe for you.”
Taking a seat next to Egg on the doc, Egg had set his rod to the side to look at the enchantments on the book he caught, not every day he finds something good while fishing.
“Wait, make sure you grabbed the RIGHT rod.”
“Hmm? No I already did.”
“No, no, CHECK, like make sure. Cause last time we went fishing I almost DIED because of you!”
“I swear, Egg! It’s not a strike rod!”
“Okay… whatever you say, bro.”
Wemmbu cast his fishing rod into the lake, waiting for a fish to bite. Egg eyed the process wearily. Throwing his own hook into the lake
“Look, I’ll show you it’s not a strike, I swear!”
Wemmbu pulled back his rod and-
Snap
The rod broke, and the familiar sound of sizzling came from above.
Egg slowly turned to look at Wemmbu, a pure look of ‘I told you so’ and disappointment on his face.
“What did I ACTUALLY say?”
Wemmbu chuckled nervously, a stupid-looking smile on his face as he glanced up to the rings of TnT in the sky, coming down all too slowly and nearly too fast.
“Uhm… whoops?”
Egg got up, grabbed Wemmbu, and dashed into the fishing shack, slamming the door behind them as a multitude of explosions outside
The roof ripped open, knocking over Egg and sending him slamming into the wall, he gasped for air, all wind rushing out his lungs. Wemmbu ducked down, trying not to get hit with debris, but getting slammed with rocks anyway, wincing at every stone pelted.
Moments later, it was over. The final TNT had gone off.
Egg, stayed on the floor, trying to breathe for a moment before getting up from the ground, wincing from the pain of getting slammed into a wall. Helping Wemmbu up, he looked around
“Bro… I worked so hard on this base…”
“Wahh, Wahh, We can make another.”
He stared at Wemmbu like he’d done him a personal wronging, Rude. He had worked hard on this base.
“Whatever dude.”
Wemmbu blinked, a little surprised by the sudden hostility. Egg wouldn't be mad at him right? It was a mistake...
“Bro, are you seriously mad about this?”
Egg touched the destroyed wall of the shack, Not answering him. His eyes flickered over the burnet wood, the flakes of it coming off with just his touch. Fading away on his fingertips like ash into the soil. Wemmbu’s tail flicked behind him in agitation, His voice leaned into trying to convince Egg rather than joke about it.
“Come on, It’s just a base! We can make another.”
“Maybe I don’t WANT to make another base? I can’t have ANYTHING nice with you.”
Wemmbu froze, his voice cracked and too quiet.
“What?”
“YOU HEARD ME! Everytime! I swear! It’s like the second I’m comfortable, the SECOND i have anything to myself, you come in and ruin it for me!”
This may be the first time Wemmbu has ever gotten Egg this angry, and Wemmbu wasn’t sure how to react.
It felt like needles on his skin, the sound of Eggs anger made him feel almost sick
“I’m done with this. I’m not bothering with someone who doesn’t even care about me.”
Egg moved away from the shed, nearly stumbling on some debris. His wings puffed, and his posture stiffened. Unlike how he had ever acted.
Wemmbu took a second to catch up before moving forward, trying to catch Egg, his voice shot out.
Despertate.
“WAIT! Egg! You can’t do that!”
Wemmbus hand landed on Egg’s shoulder
Shove
Wemmbu stumbled back, nearly falling over before catching himself, looking surprised and hurt
“I’ll do whatever I want! You don’t own me! I don’t owe you ANYTHING.”
“Egg, you’re not thinking right, okay?” Wemmbu pleaded
“Not thinking right? NOT THINKING RIGHT?? I must have cracked my HEAD open to have even trusted you in the first place! I wasn’t thinking right before, but now I see, I see CLEARLY. You’re nothing but a LOST CAUSE.”
Wemmbu completely stopped, didn’t follow, didn’t move. Maybe he even stopped breathing for a second. A loud ringing rushed through his head
Silence hit like a gunshot
“You’re nothing Wemmbu, NOTHING.”
Egg kept moving forward, avoiding the water and all of the broken and destroyed things.
Alone, Wemmbu stood alone. Maybe for the first time in a long time. Alone with nobody he could run to to complain about it.
And for the first time, He didn't want to be.
