Cigarette Kisses

Summary:

Joel and you take a break to smoke together.

Work Text:

“C’mere, darlin’.”

Joel gently took your face, guiding you closer to his own. Your lit cigarette met his unlit one and began slowly bringing it to life. You watched the embers igniting curiously. It felt intimate in a way. Once Joel’s cigarette was finally lit, he sat back slightly and took in a puff. The smoke produced by you two wavered hazily in the crisp air. You couldn’t help but admire how your lover basked in it all. It was the most at peace you’d seen him in a while.

“You too good enough to kiss me properly now?”

You teased, inhaling your share of smoke, tensing as the burn settled in the back of your throat. The sound of Joel’s husky, deep chuckle filled the air around you. You couldn’t help but smile. His laugh never failed to brighten your day. Joel gently plucked the cigarette from his mouth, turning toward you.

“Don’t be dramatic. You know I can’t resist you.”

He remarked, plucking the cigarette from your lips. You barely had the time to let a protest form on your lips before his lips met yours. As much as you loved to bicker with your husband, you loved his kisses even more. Finally, the two of you separated. Despite Joel’s attempts, your snark didn’t fully die out.

“That is a bullshit way to get out of an argument.”

“I’m aware, hun… you love it, though.”

“… That I do.”
