Work Text:
Yongbok has yet to know the importance of Seollal, so when her parents woke her up before sunrise and got her all pretty when the sky was still dark, her expression looked absolutely sleepy and slightly annoyed. Her brows furrowed together most of the time and she tried her best to stay awake. Her parents are literally struggling to hold their laugh that morning.
The whole family has been at a vacation house by the beach since yesterday for all the preparation for the new year. Unlike Yongbok who is still learning about all of these, Chan and Changbin are already well-aware and actively help their parents and grandparents in preparing the table for Charye. Iyen is in the kitchen with Hyunjin, working together in making tteokguk and mandu. Everyone is really pretty in hanbok, in the shades of heukmi for this year's theme.
"Princess, are you sleepy?" Seungmin asks softly as he sits in front of her when her mother is tying her hair into pigtails. Yongbok glares at her father and doesn't answer, making him chuckle. He quickly holds both of her hands, an attempt to remove that negative headspace from her little mind.
"Have a smile, princess. Today is an important day, you know? A day where you officially become one year older. You'll be four years old now. And we need to see haedoji so that our year will start with a blessing, that's why we came to this vacation house and woke up this early" he explains. The little girl blinks once in a while to get rid of the drowsiness, and who knows if she is actually listening or not.
Luckily shortly after, Chan helps Seungmin and Minho in cheering Yongbok up and playing with her, so she feels better right away. The kids are taking the traditional game materials off the luggage to put in the living room, and while Chan walks first, Yongbok slows down as her eyes finally capture the whole scene in front of her right now.
There is this warm feeling that hits her tiny body when she stares at everyone, wearing so nice and pretty, and working together in making sure the first day of the year is perfect. They always gather every weekend, but today feels really warm. Slowly, a huge smile appears on her face. Chan turns around when he realises that Yongbok is not following him.
"Bokkie, what's wrong?" He asks, walking back at her. She looks at her cousin with sparkles in her eyes.
"I don't know what happened but my heart feels...uhm... dokidoki" she tries her best to explain the giddy feelings but she doesn't have the right words so she wiggles around to express it. Chan understands instantly, because he feels it too whenever they are celebrating an important day, so he giggles.
"Bokkie is getting the seollal bok (blessing)!" He answers. Yongbok blinks, only then she understands why her family is so excited for the celebration. They must have felt this dokidoki too, that's why they don't mind waking up early in the morning, she concludes. She nods to herself, then she finally walks with Chan to the living room, getting all determined and excited along with the rest of the family.
In the meanwhile, Seungmin feels dokidoki for a whole different reason. It's when he is helping his wife fix the ribbon on her hanbok, and she gets to stare at him focusing on his job.
"Alright, done" he says calmly, and about to walk away but then Minho tugs his sleeve. He looks back at her, wondering if she needs any more help, only to find her blushing.
"You... you look handsome today" she mumbles, trying to sound nonchalant but fails miserably. There are trembles in her eyes when she's shy about something and Seungmin knows her well enough to notice all those little things. Minho quickly leaves first, ignoring the foolish grin on her husband's face as he traces her clumsy escape. Seungmin chuckles softly then he finally leaves.
"Aish– she's so cute. She's so good at making me feel dokidoki" he mumbles to himself and wiggles his hands, feeling the cuteness aggression all over his body.

"Sweetheart, watch carefully how Changbin and Chan do the sebae then you do it too, okay?" Minho says and Yongbok nods eagerly, ready to celebrate Seollal perfectly. As expected, the brothers do a great job as an example for her. As they bow to the floor, they say
"Saehae bok manhi badeuseyo (please receive tons of blessings this new year)!"
Okay! Got it! Yongbok's eyes are flaming with determination, and now when it's her turn, everyone is looking at her with love sparkling in their eyes. Iyen cannot help but record this memorable moment with her phone. Like she observes, Yongbok bows to the floor and says
"Saehae bok manhi juseyo– akk!" Thud!
She slams her head to the floor.
Bow a bit too deeply (and fast), the loud thud makes the adults flinch in surprise. She freezes right there while her parents and grandparents quickly approach her to check if she is okay. The cousin brothers are already laughing because she said 'please give me tons of blessings for the new year' instead of wishing the adults to have blessings, while their parents and Iyen are trying their best not to laugh from the whole situation.
"Princess, are you okay?!"
"UWAHHHH!" Yongbok burst out crying out loud shortly after, holding her forehead with both of her tiny hands. Seungmin hugs her right away, but that doesn't stop them from laughing at her little misfortune.
Yongbok is truly the bok (blessing) of the family, the way she is bringing such much of a happiness in the morning of Seollal.
