He’d tried to hold off for as long as he could. Fight the instincts. Tried to sustain himself on the nearby wildlife and occasional scraps the others left him.
But that didn’t happen.As Pyro stood over the still body of his first kill, adrenaline coursing through his veins, still-warm blood drying on his mouth and chin, he didn’t know how to feel.
The man in front of him – a horrific mix of gore and viscera painting the floor, a corpse ripped to shreds in a frenzied attempt to consume every last drop – exemplified this.It was worse than murder. It was a violent slaughter. No respect for the person. It was worse than the fate they — humans — gave to livestock.
So fixated on his bloodied hands, Pyro never heard Scott enter.
