No, okay, that wasn't true. He didn't normally forget his key. And, hell, living in Stark's building, the doors didn't need any.
In their Brooklyn brownstone, they'd opted for more traditional locks, though no less secure. And Steve had forgotten his key earlier. He wanted to surprise Bucky, the things he'd bought in bags next to him.
When he heard steps behind him, he turned. An echo of a memory hit him then, of the day of his ma’s funeral, decades ago even for him.
In the past and present, Bucky came up around him and handed him the key.
