    Times when he had been in love and terrified of admitting it, only for it to wrap around someone without permission, revealing what he couldn’t say. Each memory felt like another small cut. Another reminder that he was always exposed. He turned away from the mirror, sinking down onto the floor with his back against the bed, knees pulled up to his chest. His tail wrapped around him automatically, curling over his legs and resting against his side like a protective blanket.

    The irony was cruel. The thing he resented most was also the thing that tried to comfort him. The thing he wanted to hide was the thing that held him together.
