Chapter Text
The extermination has finally arrived.
Once a year, the Vampire hunters abandon their grounds to chase the Vampires and invade their territories. The most gruesome and terrifying day of the year.
Vaggie prepared herself for the battle, putting her bloodstained black dress on. She grabbed her slightly cracked mask from the ground, noticing how the goat-like horns on the top were chipped and worn down. She oddly took pride in her mask's disheveled state, another reminder that she's the top Vampire hunter and the most vicious of them all. Vaggie put on the mask as she heard the tent rustle, a sign that someone was entering. She turned around and saw the leader of her army, Adam. He was also wearing his mask, yet his was larger with pointer horns that resembled the ones a Vampire in full form possessed.
“Hey-a, Vags” he greeted her, he pronounced her name with more of a ‘j’ sound than a ‘g’. She wasn't sure if that was some sort of ongoing joke or if she's been misinterpreting her own name this whole time. “Morning, sir” she replied, stepping inside her white and black boots. “Ready for the extermination? This year we got a whole new batch of Vampire filth to kill” Adam grinned through his mask, his favorite hobby was probably trash-talking Vampires all day long. “Of course, sir. I've been training extra hard this year.” Vaggie said while brushing a few loose feathers off of her light gray wings. She never understood why hunters had wings in the first place, but she didn't question them; they were excellent and incredibly helpful when it came to chasing Vampires.
“Great! That's what I like to hear. I knew I could count on my top girl to kick some Vampire ass this year!” He praised her, unfurling his wings to prepare to step out of the tent. “Anyway, seems like it's time. Let's head outside so we can do the formation.” Adam stated, walking outside of the tent. “Right, sir” Vaggie replied, flying out as well. They both landed outside with the other Vampire hunters, Vaggie flew in between two of the girls. Adam landed in front of them and stepped closer to Lute, the second top Vampire hunter after Vaggie. Although she was the second, Lute and Adam seemed closer than just coworkers. Vaggie never really bothered to think too much about it, though. But, she did admit, she found it odd how they'd hang out even after training sessions and important meetings.
“Alright, girls, listen up. This year we're gonna be targetin’ the Pentagram City, all the new and freaked-out Vampires are gonna be hiding.” Adam began, “For the extermination this year, I want us to really reach for the skies. Last time we got a total of over 2500 kills, which is awesome. But, I want to go higher than that. So, this year, we're gonna go over to that filthy little Vampire city and kill over 3000 fanged fuckers! Are we clear, girls?!” He yelled enthusiastically. The hunters cheered back, including Vaggie. Adam smiled at their response and turned around to unfurl his wings. “It's finally time.” He grinned at Lute before turning over to look at their overhead view of the Pentagram City. “LADIES! ATTACK!” He yelled, his ‘attack’ sounded more like a rockstar's scream than a battle cry; although, knowing Adam, that was probably what he was going for.
The hunters flew down, landing one by one in the Pentagram City as their swords sliced through countless amounts of Vampires. Vaggie flew down to tackle a pale Vampire, pushing her sharp sword into his head. She watched the blood flow out of the fanged man, stabbing him a few more times to guarantee his death. She effortlessly jumped around the city, slicing through Vampires faster than a blink of an eye. As she killed them, she counted every death in her head. Last year she got 256, she wanted to surpass that this time. 34, 35, 36…she counted, her sword becoming increasingly more drenched with the blood of the Vampires she slaughtered.
Vaggie was getting cockier with the amount of Vampires she was quickly killing, so she decided to try and score higher. She looked around and noticed all of the Vampires were getting killed in the center of the city because that’s where all the other hunters were. If she sneaked into some shady side of town, she could probably find all the hiding spots of the Vampires. Oh, this is good, she thought. Vaggie flew to a dark alleyway, rocketing past all of the crooked buildings and dead trees. She spotted a dark forest, filled with blood red trees and dark oak. It's…kind of pretty, she thought to herself. No, what was she thinking? Vampires are filthy, their cities are filthy, therefore their stupid trees are filthy too! She shook off the thought of the Vampire trees, flying down to try to find other fanged beings to kill.
She landed in the dark red forest, her light gray wings unfurling as a method of intimidation. She clutched her sword as she took silent steps between the trees. Her back straightened as she spotted a shadowy figure creeping near her. Her wings flapped silently in a defensive manner, as if she wanted to take off but couldn't. Vaggie held her sword tight as she spotted the figure again, it seemed like a silhouette of a tall Vampire hiding in the forest. She smiled to herself, Time to get Vampire number 65. Vaggie approached the figure silently before raising her sword to kill the creature. As if all odds were against her, the Vampire happened to turn around just in time to catch Vaggie's oncoming attack. The fanged creature yelped slightly as red horns burst out of her forehead, she grabbed Vaggie by her sword and threw her across the area by instinct. Vaggie hit a dark tree with a loud thud, her cracked mask breaking into pieces as the pain of the impact overtook her body in a horrible manner.
“ARGH!” Vaggie yelled out painfully as the Vampire watched her mask shatter, “estúpida vampira!”. The hunter shook violently as she tried to get up, her legs giving out in agony. “Oh, I'm sorry! Are you okay?” the Vampire asked, approaching Vaggie with caution. “Don't take another step, you disgusting fanged filth!” Vaggie hissed, clutching her sword as she tried to act intimidating. As the figure stepped closer, Vaggie finally realized who it was.
Charlie Morningstar.
The Vampire Princess, Royal Blood, and…annoyingly strong, apparently. Vaggie trembled as she leaned onto the tree for support. “Is anything broken? Your wings look pretty scratched up” the princess said, carefully bringing her pale hands close to Vaggie's feathered and lowered wings. Charlie tried to touch them so she could check for wounds, but Vaggie lightly slapped her hand away. “Don't touch me, you've done enough damage.” She scowled, scratching the tree she leaned on to get up weakly. She was upset that she got hurt, but she was even more upset that she went out all the way over to some unknown side of the Pentagram just to find out she couldn't even get a kill. Since Charlie's the princess, her and her family got passes from all the yearly exterminations. Vaggie was incredibly furious that she couldn't kill Charlie and get this over with, but there wasn't anything she could do about it. She would have to shamefully fly back to the main part of the city and break it to her peers that she had a humiliating encounter with the princess of the Vampires herself.
“Wait! I know you're a hunter and you're trying to slaughter my people, buuuuut you can't even kill me so…can you at least let me help you?” Charlie blurted, stepping closer to Vaggie's limping state. God, does she ever stop being so weirdly kind? Vaggie thought, although her optimism was a unique thing she'd never seen in any other Vampires before. “Fine, but only because you heaved me onto a tree and now I can't fly.” She scowled, her wings painfully spreading out in front of Charlie. The princess smiled at Vaggie's acceptance of her help.
“Ooh, great! I'm glad you're letting me help you.” She picked out a bandage from the inside pocket of her red suit. Charlie took Vaggie's arm as she leaned back onto the tree from earlier, her wings lowering to brush the ground. She wrapped the bandage around Vaggie's wrist, covering a few cuts that opened up when she was thrown by Charlie.
“So…what's your name?” Charlie said awkwardly while wrapping the rest of Vaggie's lower arm in bandages. “Seriously? You slammed me into a tree and now you wana know my name?” Vaggie rolled her eyes angrily. “Well, I'm trying to be kind but you're not really helping.” Charlie snapped back, yet her voice still remained sort of cheerful. “I'm Vaggie.” She said, a little quiet. “Well, Vaggie, it's nice to meet you! I'm Charlie Morningstar, princess of the Vampires!” The princess responded, smiling. “I know that. You get a pass from all the exterminations, don't you?” Vaggie looked at the bandages that hugged her arms. “Yeah, I do…so, I'm going to try to fix up your wings now, ‘kay?” Charlie quickly changed the topic, as if she wanted to avoid it. “Right…” Vaggie replied, since when was she so quiet?
Charlie carefully brushed her finger through Vaggie's light gray feathers, making her quietly yelp at the sensitivity of it. She found an open wound in the middle of Vaggie's right wing that stretched out for a few inches, Charlie took out a piece of wet cloth to clean the blood that leaked from it. “This cut's a little deep so bandage isn't really going to help. You're probably going to have to ask for help from a medic.” Charlie explained, putting the dirty cloth onto the ground as she checked Vaggie for more wounds. “Mhm…” The white-haired hunter replied, testing out her wings by silently flapping them slightly. “You know, you're awfully optimistic for a Vampire. Any other fanged being would have left me rot.” Vaggie broke the short silence between them, taking a step closer to Charlie. “Well, I’ve always been like this. I just can't stand to watch someone suffer like that, Vampire or hunter. Especially if it's my fault” The blonde girl smiled, what an odd lady.
Vaggie bent down to pick up the cracked pieces of her mask, upset that her most prized possession was shattered like a mirror. “I have to get back to my army, extermination's almost over.” Vaggie said, picking up the last pieces of her mask. “Okay! Well…see you…around?” She smiled, brushing her blonde hair out of her face to get a better look at Vaggie. Vaggie looked at her up and down…Has she always been this pretty? Vaggie's eyes widened at her own thought, she shook her head slightly because of it. She blushed at Charlie, rubbing her cheeks to try and pass it off as another wound. She smiled at the blonde, choosing her next words carefully. “Sure…see you, princesa”.
Vaggie unfurled her wings with a low hiss as she slowly but surely flew away from the forest and back to the center of Pentagram City. Charlie smiled, bearing her fangs as Vaggie flew off. “Such a lovely hunter!”
