Chapter 1:

A/N: OMG I just finished Mr. M's latest book in the Twilight Series, and I just had to write something! It would be so so cool to be a vampire!

The moon was a bright red as Shelby Ivory Brightness Lucidity Flamingo-Lost descended into the forgotten woods. She was not like the other girls, red curls cascading down her face, framing her round black glasses. Her school's uniform prevented her from wearing anything to extreme, but she hid her father's necklace beneath her shirt collar.

Her father was her main reasoning behind traversing the forest—having left Shelby as a young girl to find proof of the supernatural. While her classmates would always tease her for believing in fairies, ghosts and werewolves, her father told her the real truth—the creatures in the woods were scared. Humans had been unkind to them, and so they chose to hide away. It was her father's mission to meet these creatures and show the world how kind humans could be.

A/N: Sorry for the short chapter, my power bill has gone out and this is all I could manage on what's left of my computer's battery! I hope to have the next chapter up soon, but it could be a while, I'm moving to a new town!

Chapter: 2

A/N: Guys, this new town is so spooky! It was actually abandoned, but somehow several people showed up all at the same time! I actually have some friends now!

The woods were a calm place, thick with dense oaks shading over the path. Most of the folks from Sunny Side Cliffs would have been scared wandering the forests without a map, but Shelby knew that her heart would lead her to exactly where she needed to be. Besides if she got lost, a friendly nymph might even help her out, or maybe Bigfoot would direct her!

Shelby had little in her pockets—just a notebook, pencil, her dad's necklace and an apple. She was used to having to fend for herself, so the small amount of supplies didn't scare her.

Making her way down the path, she stayed vigilant for any creatures who may have been lurking. Shelby wanted to make sure to greet them with a friendly smile, so that way they wouldn't be scared of her.

A blur of darkness sprinted through the forest. By the time Shelby had spotted the shadow in the tree line, it had knocked her to the ground. Her eyes fluttered shut, the impact having knocked her out cold.

A/N: Sorry for leaving you at such a cliffhanger! I've been very busy in this new town! I got to build my own house! ^w^ I also have a new roommate! His name is Scott and he has blue hair and a cool accent! Also MR. M. IS ONE OF THE TOWNS PEOPLE EEEEEE~ Maybe I could subtlety get some tips or secret Twilight lore!

Chapter 3:

A/N: I have an actual friend who believes in the supernatural with me now! His name is Avid! He's a bit focused on vampires (i dunno i'm just here to make friends with bigfoot), wanting to get rid of them all, but I've never had someone else besides my dad believe me before!

Shelby's eyes burst open in a panic. She felt cold, oh so cold.

"Careful, you hit your head pretty hard," A smooth voice said above her. "The turning process tends to be rough."

"What—Turning Process?" Shelby said, head spinning with nausea.

"Yes, I had to turn you, you were bleeding out on the ground." The dark shape the voice was coming from moved slowly. "Your blood tastes delicious, hint of blueberry."

"Wait," Shelby stammered, "You're a vampire?"

"Yes my fledgling." The vampire laughed, "And you are one too."

Shelby couldn't believe it. She rubbed her eyes, she had one too many dreams with false promises. Still, the cloaked figure stayed above her, red eyes glimmering in the moonlight.

"Woah!" Shelby couldn't remember a time where she was happier.

Unfortunately, the low amount of blood in her system wasn't able to keep her awake for long. She drifted off in the arms of her sire.

A/N: GUYS YOU'RE NEVER GOING TO BELIEVE ME! I AM AN ACTUAL VAMPIRE NOW!!!! Turns out my roommate was a vampire, he and some of his vampire friends got me alone on this river bank where we were fishing and two of them grabbed me and sucked all of the blood out of my body! Next thing I awoke to him explaining some of my powers! I can turn into a bat now! But the best thing is I was right! They are REAL!

Chapter 4:

A/N: The coven is so cool! The Vampire that turned me has this epic castle with his own coffin! He was asleep in it for 600 years—I bet he'd have a crooked spine if he wasn't a vampire.

When Shelby finally awoke, she was surrounded by vampires.

There were three of them. The first was tall, with almost silvery pale skin and hair as blue as the sky. He was beautiful.

The second was slender and sullen. He looked to be carrying the weight of incredible grief for some hundreds of years. Looking at him made me feel sad. He could probably use a nap.

And the last was almost pitiful looking, like a small feral squirrel that had been starved. Mostly harmless but a little to eager to eat.

"I never asked for your name, fledgling." The pitiful one wiped her blood from his mouth.

"Well, it's not proper to turn someone without giving your name either," Shelby giggled, not actually mad. "May I have yours?"

"It's Blaze. Jill von Blazereaper."

Shelby couldn't contain her laughter at the unexpected name. The other two vampires broke into their own giggles while her sire pouted.

"Scmott Silverforger, you have no place to laugh." Blaze pointed at the blue-haired vampire.

"Whatever you say, Fire-knife." Scmott offered his hand to help Shelby off the ground. "Can't argue about Eoghan, though, even if I think the spelling is wrong."

The sullen vampire finally spoke. "'scuse you, I'll have you know my parents were progressive in their naming habits for their time. I refuse the thought of spelling it 'Owain' like your parents would have."

"Well, there you have our names. We're no longer strangers." Her sire held out his hand, as if to beckon her into the siren's call of this new world.

"Shelby." She took it. "My name is Shelby."

The three of them guided her through the forest to a large castle, chatting and making friendly jokes the entire way. It was surreal the way Shelby slid into the conversation, like she was always meant to be here.

Despite having a variety of personalities, the vampires felt like a warm family to Shelby. The coven was eager to construct a new room just for her.

"Right now, you can still pick up silver. The sun does make us weaker, but the moon makes us more powerful. The other main thing you can do is turn into a bat." Scmott explained, digging into a wall with his claws.

"The claws become really handy, too." Eoghan flashed his fingers out, showing off curved nails that came to a point, much like that of an eagles beak. "Practically no places can keep you out."

"If you tore through the cellar door again after forgetting the key again, I will tear through your bedroom door," Blaze said coldly.

"No comment." Eoghan flashed his fellow coven member a grin. "Like I said, no places can keep you out."

"Wow! This is so cool! I always knew being a vampire would be a dream come true, but I didn't know it came with so many powers!" Shelby exclaimed, stepping into the newly dug room.

"Only downside is the limited menu. Blood and raw meat." Scmott brushed the dirt from beneath his nails. "How's this for a room?"

"Perfect." Shelby smiles. She was going to make this into the best cozy bedroom.

Now to solve the next biggest problem: her rumbling stomach.

A/N: I didn't think it would be this hard to be a vampire, you know? It takes a ton of animal blood to actually sate my hunger. I don't want to feed on my friends. Humans and Vampires can co-exist happily together! I do miss cooked meat, raw is just not the same, but cooked stuff makes me sick now so I don't exactly have another choice.

Chapter 5:

A/N: My friend Avid is scared of Vampires. He found out Scott was one, and freaked out. He and another one of my friend's Drift, were advertising a self-defense training, but when I went to it, they were trying to test if I was a vampire. I'm lucky the methods they were using don't actually have any effects on me, but it's still scary to think about how I'll lose my friendship if they find out I'm a Vampire.

"How do you get blood?" Shelby asked. She didn't want to have to drink from anyone. As cool as her new powers were, she didn't want to harm humans.

"Oh we are so stupid." Blaze slapped his palm against his forehead. "We get our blood from animals or sometimes we get donated blood that is slightly expired"

"We gave Blaze a bunch of shit for turning a human." Eoghan looked at his nails. "Understandable to turn you rather than waste good blood."

"Besides, your beautiful face doesn't deserve to rot in the ground." Scmott's crimson eyes practically hypnotized her own.

"Blood time, guys!" Blaze interrupted by walking between her sight of Scmott. "Shall we give your powers of flight a test?"

"The hospital is right over the hill, might as well." Eoghan dropped his arm to the side, and suddenly erupted into an explosion of bats. "Follow us once you transform."

Blaze quickly poofed into the same fuzzy cloud of bats, leaving Shelby to pause. She had never turned into a bat before. How one go about even doing such a thing?

Her glittery-skinned covenmate picked up on her confusion. Scmott reached his own arm out, beckoning Shelby to place her hand in his. "Focus on your inner core, and feel the yearning to fly." His fingers shrank in front of her until he was a bat nestled into her palms.

Maybe it was the confidence of Scmott, maybe it was her own determination, but Shelby closed her eyes and could feel the gravity lifting off her shoulders. Within a second, the bat that was once in her hands was now wrapping his wings around her own.

"I bet I can beat you there." Shelby giggled, clearing her throat.

"I'll take that bet." Scmott pushed off the floor, rocketing out the open window.

Catching up to Eoghan and Blaze was hard work, despite the fact that diving through the sky was somehow second nature to Shelby. Scmott stuck to being just above the tree line, effortlessly gliding through the air as if he were skating on it.

Taking a bit of a risk, Shelby dipped into the tree tops, increasing her speed with the dive. She passed by Scmott with a whistle. She was totally going to win this bet!

That's when the tree branch met her face. Violently.

Shelby crumpled to the ground.

A/N: The town found out I'm a vampire. I haven't harmed anyone! That's all Scott and Owen and Pyro's doing. Can't Vampires and Humans work together? I haven't changed all that much, I just have fangs, can turn into a bat and have red eyes now. I'm not a Monster. I can't bare to face Avid. The town burned down my house, who knows what my friend who's actively hunting down the supernatural thinks of me.

Shelby - Meet at the Obelisk tonight!!!

In case you didn't hear me the other night, when I totally didn't hear that stuff about Cleo being a mole or whatever.

Okayyyy byeeeeeeee -Avid

Chapter 6:

A/N: I'm kinda scared for my life--undeath? I found a chest with a threat telling me to watch my back. It had a wooden stake in it. Does Avid hate me so much that he wants me dead? I'm not a monster, I just have different powers now. Maybe this is a sign I should drink more blood to become a more powerful vampire.

Shelby really needed to stop waking up in the arms of strangers.

"Hey you should really be more careful." The man cradling her head had mousey brown locks with purple eyes dripping with concern. "The forest is a real dangerous place."

"Men that look like you aren't all that dangerous." Shelby reached her arm up, tucking his hair behind his ear. His arms were comfortably warm, his heartbeat pumping delicious blood through his veins.

"I'll have you know I could very well be an accomplished axe murderer if I wanted to!" His face was so expressive with playful outrage, the same face found most commonly on a toddler.

Shelby felt a siren song urge to nestle into his neck. Bury her teeth directly into this stranger's flesh. With all her disorientated strength, Shelby rolled out of the man's arms. "Best get away from you, Mr. Axe-Murderer."

"It's Ovid. And for the record I'm not an axe murderer, just a friendly stranger who saw you fall out of a tree." He lent his arm to Shelby as he got up.

It took all of Shelby's willpower to not sink her teeth into his brachial artery. "Then what are you doing out in these woods if not axe murdering, Ovid?"

Ovid's face scrunched up slightly, as if preparing himself for disappointment. "I um, was looking for supernatural creatures."

Shelby couldn't help herself from squealing. "YES! Oh have you found any?"

Ovid's face turned into unbridled joy. "You believe too!"

"How could anyone not!" Shelby cheered.

"I know right! It only makes sense! Vampires, Werewolves, Demons, Faeries, they explain so much!"

"My own father was the one who told me stories." Shelby brushed the dirt off of her skirt. "I'm on my own quest to find him again after he became lost studying the supernatural."

"That's so cool! I'd love to hunt with you. I've never found one myself, but I always wanted to see a creature." Ovid scratched the back of his neck. "But I totally get if you don't want to hunt with a total stranger."

"My name is Shelby." She grabbed Ovid's hand. "We're going to be best friends. "

Ovid's smile spanned his face. "I've never had a best friend before."

Shelby mirrored his grin. "We'll learn together."

A/N: I met Avid at the obelisk. I turned him.

He asked for it! He begged me, saying something else was taking over and he'd rather be a vampire than another monster. He claimed there's a cure, that the both of us can be freed of vampirism.

I hate that his blood tasted so good.

Dear Avid

Sorry it had to be like that. Remember, humans can be friends. And we get to chose if we;re monsters. Don't let the sound of their blood pumping get to you. Eat raw meat. Stay alive.

Avid Note: Dear Shelby,

I'm scared…I'm hungry.. I don't know how much longer I can resist the pull of the castle… I'm out of time and ideas.

Also your fanfiction was really good!

Chapter 7:

A/N: I tried to lie to the others that I didn't turn Avid. It didn't really work. Scott's still really upset with all of us. I just hope Avid is okay. The way Owen and Scott are talking, like it's us vampires against the town, that we shouldn't trust anyone… I don't know what to believe anymore.

"Shelby!" Her coven member's voice echoed throughout the tree line. "Where did you go?"

In her giddiness of making a new friend, Shelby completely forgot her journey to get a supply of blood as a newly turned vampire. What was she going to do, she couldn't just leave her new best friend.

"There you are!" Scmott steps out of the woods before Shelby can even think of a plan. "Why who is this?"

"Hi! Are you perhaps a friend of this redhead? You should really watch her if falling out of trees is a regular occurrence." Ovid smiled at Scmott.

"Friend of Shelby, yes, however I'm hoping the tree to ground smashing is a one time event." Schmott made his way closer to the group, his cadence sounding like that of a hunting animal. "What are you doing out in these woods, handsome?"

"Why wouldn't you like to know?" Ovid tried to laugh with a friendly tone, but there was an air of unease to it.

"Yes, that's why I asked, Pretty Boy," Scmott said, now within touching distance of the two of them.

Shelby felt the unease swirling in her stomach. She didn't want her new friends to fight, but how was she to make it through this conversation. She didn't want her coven mate feeding directly from Ovid, even if the group insisted they didn't eat from humans without consent, she still hadn't seen any proof of the claim. She also didn't want Ovid, this supernatural fan finding out that the two of them were vampires. The wooden stakes hanging off Ovid's neck spoke directly to how that may be a bad idea.

Shelby could hear Ovid's heartbeat increase. "Why perhaps I just like to wander the woods, huh? That a crime?"

"I mean it is a crime to look that handsome and be nameless."

"You aren't a fae are you?" Ovid began to look more panicked with each passing second.

"Fae? I mean I can enchant your world if you spend a night with me." Scmott giggled. "But no, I am not a fae."

Ovid visibly deflated as the fighting instinct building within him calmed. "Oh. Well, then may I have your name, you flirtatious man."

"Scmott. Scmott Silverforger the third at your acquaintance."

"He's also my new roommate." Shelby found her voice finally.

"Delighted to meet you, Mr. Silverforger. I'd be happy to swing by sometime to see both you and Shelby's home if you'd be willing to have me sometime."

"I'd love to have you over! We could garden." Shelby exclaimed in delight.

"It would be a privilege to have such eye candy come through my doors." Scmott smiled.

"Stop it you too, flirt on your own time." Shelby pouted. "Ovid, do you know the castle on the hill north of here? That's where Scmott and I live."

"Oh the Manor?" Something gleamed in Ovid's eyes. "I know of it, yes."

"Would you perhaps join us at evening meal tomorrow? Shelby and I should be off soon to the apothecary soon, otherwise we'd stay and chat." Scmott leaned into Shelby's side, as if to signal to let him handle the rest of the conversation.

"That sounds delightful." Ovid seemed bright, the same type of positive exuberance of a comet racing across the night sky.

"We'll see you tomorrow then." Shelby reached her hands out to take Ovid's in her own, squeezing his palms.

"Can't wait! Safe travels to the apothecary!" Ovid squeezed her hand back.

Scmott and Shelby walked cautiously down the path in comfortable silence, Ovid getting further and further away. Scmott braced his hands against Shelby's back, as if he was worried about her possibly falling again. It wasn't until they were several minutes out of Ovid's hearing range that Scmott finally spoke.

"How hungry are you?" Scmott asked, gently. "I was impressed you didn't tear your new friend to bits, but then again, he had a healthy dose of garlic in his system."

At the mention of the hunger, Shelby tuned back into the instinct she had unconsciously repressed, and instantly wobbled on her feet.

Scmott was quick to pull her into his side to steady her.

Big mistake. By pulling her into his shoulder, all that filled her senses was the smell of blood lingering just beneath her coven mate's skin. It was the type of obsessive hunger, the one that feels like acid crawling up your throat and can only be sated by getting what it desires.

Her fangs sunk directly into his skin. Warm blood filled her mouth like syrup. It had a distinctly fruity sourness that coated her tongue, beckoning the drinker to tap into hedonic urges.

"Ask first next time, fledgling." Scmott chuckled. "Though I figured that would happen. You did well."

Embarrassment twinged her thoughts, but she couldn't stop herself. She had to keep drinking.

"Alright, enough." Scmott pushed her face away from his shoulder. "We'll get you more blood, but I need to keep some of mine."

Shelby whined. Why was she so hungry? Why couldn't she stop herself from drinking?

"Go to sleep, I'll carry you." Scmott scoops her into his arms. "Today's been rough, I'll handle it."

Shelby doesn't even fight the sleepiness. She slips into her dreams.

A/N: Avid came back to the castle. He's not mad at me! Guys, he read my drafts! I'm a little embarrassed, but he said he really likes them. I actually have a long term friend for once! He even forgives me when I make mistakes! He even called me a best friend. I have a best friend!

Between you and me, I'm very worried about him. Avid keeps going on about how he wants to teach the town a lesson by murdering them. I'm starting to worry we might be monsters after all.

Chapter 8:

A/N: The town burned down the entire forest. They want to kill all the vampires. Scott and Owen are telling me I have to pick a side.

I guess the one positive thing is Mr. M. is now a vampire. He offered to beta my WIP after Avid spilled I wrote fics about vampires. Now both Avid and Mr. M. can help me publish my work.

Scmott, Eoghan or Blaze must have feed her more blood in a semi-conscious state, since when she awoke, she was back in her room at the manor, stomach full. She felt rejuvenated too, as if the time sleeping allowed her to strengthen her vampiric self more.

Stepping out of her bed, she decided to peak into the closet and see what clothes were left for her. Inside was a velvet black skirt, and ruby blouse accents with a long sleeved shawl that draped into a bat wing-like shape by the wrist.

Shelby was delighted to put on the new outfit, making sure to zip it up with care. She hoped Scmott wouldn't mind that she borrowed a clean set of clothes.

Stepping out into the hall, the windows showed the sun brushing against the tree line.

"Ah, Shelby, I was hoping you would awake soon." Scmott greeted. "Look stunning in the new clothes by the way."

"Thank you, I hope it was okay that I borrowed it."

"Consider it yours now," Schmott smiled. "You are just in time for your newest friend to arrive too. We've prepared a meal for all of us."

"But how are we going to eat with a human? I don't want to accidentally bite him." Shelby complained.

"You are quite worried about a friend you just met, huh." Scmott teased. "Relax, Eoghan distills an A- that could fool even a sommelier into believing it's a real pion nior."

"We can't exactly just only drink for the meal."

"Raw meat is easy for us to pass off as rare steak with the right cuts and showmanship. Trust in your coven, fledgling, we've hosted humans before."

"I hope you are right." Shelby made her way up the stairs to the banquet hall of the manor. Despite it's undead state, Shelby would bet you that her heart was jump roping to the tune of her own nerves. She wanted this to be a harmonious event, where she could share both her new coven with her newest friend.

Ovid was already sitting at the dining table, framed by Eoghan on one side and Blaze on the other. His giggle skipped around the walls like a harp, clearly enjoying the conversation.

"Shelby! Oh I'm so glad to see you again!" Ovid was quick to stand up at her sight. "How's the head? Concussions are fairly nasty, I hope you aren't feeling any nausea."

"Rest has done me well." Shelby strode over to Ovid, quickly burying him in her grasp.

Ovid leaned into her neck, speaking softer. "I'm glad you are a hugger too."

"Shelby, you should tell us sooner when you have such knowledgable friends." Blaze's voice cut through the edges of warmth in the embrace.

"Yeah, Ovid is quite entertaining, telling stories of the supernatural." Eoghan replies, tone light with an undercurrent of emotion—something Shelby couldn't quite put her finger on. "This Chupacabra is a character."

"He's not a character." Ovid broke free from Shelby's grasp to respond to her covenmate. "He's a real creature who preys upon flocks of ewes and lambs, sucking their very life force."

Her arms felt heavy, dropping to her sides. She couldn't exactly pull Ovid back into an embrace without embarrassing the both of them, but there was something hollow about the way her stomach turned by the impromptu escape.

Shelby decided to make her way to the seat set across from him, clearly set up for her. "My dad used to tell me stories of the supernatural creatures he met. Used to talk to farmers, lumberjacks, all the locals who witnessed the aftermath of strange events."

"You sure he wasn't trying to scare you not to wander off into the woods by yourself?" Scmott asked. He had a dark wine bottle in hand, pouring a wine-like liquid into his own goblet. "It can be awfully scary for young girls that travel alone in the woods."

Eoghan chimed in. "Even if it wasn't the supernatural, the forests are still filled with monsters. Wolves, bandits, even the type of outstanding men that find the right type of opportunity."

"That's why you have to protect yourself!" Ovid said, eyes distant. "Carry a weapon and know when to use it. I never leave my house unarmed."

As Eoghan and Ovid were bickering, Scmott made his way around the table, pouring glasses for every single person, before leaving to the kitchen. Shelby stared down at her wine glass, then over to Ovid's chalice filled with the same liquid. "It's not being a creature that makes you a monster, for sure."

"But something called a Chupacabra?" Blaze swirled his own glass of blood. "Sounds like a disease more than a beast. I can't imagine something named chup-candalabra or whats not is threatening."

Ovid went rigid, sitting up straight in his seat. "Hey, the Chupacabra is a terrifying creature! His name literally means goat-sucker."

Eoghan scoffed, "Goat-sucker! How can you take that seriously."

"I mean, maybe he's a nice creature." Shelby interrupted. "I always wanted to meet bigfoot. I figured we could relate to each other a bit, being outcasts together and all."

"Oh Shelby, That's the funniest thing I've ever heard." Eoghan cheered, picking up his cup, "A toast to youth! May we stay forever young enough to enjoy outlandish ideas."

"I'll drink to that!" Blaze quickly raised his glass, before reaching it down to clink the glass against Shelby's stationary goblet with a grin.

"Perfect timing." Scmott walked back into the kitchen, holding a diner plate. The smell of cooked mutton and potatoes stirred the unease growing in Shelby's stomach. "Guests, first."

Scmott placed the ceramic dish down in front of Ovid, leaning over his shoulder, and in the process knocked Ovid's own glass over into his lap. Crimson cascaded down the meal—

A/N:

he killed him.

he killed him. he killed him. he claimed he was a 'liability.' The rest of them think it was for the best, that my best friend was a 'baby.'

Pyro murdered my best friend in cold blood.

My best friend bled out, betrayed by someone he thought he could trust.

His murderer even had the audacity to tell me that life isn't some sort of storybook.

I disagree.

I'll show them what a monster really is.

It's been years since I've last opened this.

I left Oakhurst behind. We left Oakhurst behind.

We left the beacons. The blood red moons. The blocks of silver buried underneath doorways in the rubble of a battered town. The graves.

This tale is one better left buried—too many unpleasant memories to think about.

I hope you forgive me for that, Avid.

Even if I can't talk about you, you're still the most important friend I've ever had.
