the two sat in silence, jarring and imprisoning, for the first time that night. another uncomfortable saxophone solo pierced through the chatter of other patrons in the bar. rumi felt lightheaded.
when the silence between the two became unbearable, zoey breathed a quiet, “fuck.”
rumi was scared to ask. she was scared because she didn’t want the direct confirmation that asking would bring her. rumi and zoey, meeting their exes in the same place, in the same way, having the same lingering feelings and sentiments towards her. rumi knew what that meant. she asked broadly, just in case her assumption was incorrect, “you know mira..?”
only for zoey to laugh pitifully, confirming what rumi already assumed, “yeah. she’s my ex.”
rumi and zoey meet by chance at a local bar. once sparks start to fly between the duo, however, they discover that they have a rather unfortunate link – a shared ex, mira, that neither of them can seem to move on from.
