Chapter Text

Pyro didn’t know what he expected when he agreed with Scott at the lake.

He was just so tired of it all. The fighting, the teasing, the abandonment.

He just wanted an out.

Scott just so happened to be the first person to give him a sliver of one.

He vented to the guy, cried his heart out, and accepted the vulnerability and space Scott gave him.

He didn’t know what he expected when he agreed with Scott at the lake.

What he most certainly couldn’t have expected was for the man to bite into his shoulder and suck all his blood content dry, rendering Pyro unconscious.

He thought he was dead, but he soon realized that he was simply unconscious. Hell definitely wouldn’t let him off with just floating through a void of emotion.

It’s all been blurry since, he doesn’t even know how long it’s been. He hasn’t really had the brain power to really think on it.

Everything was warm now. So warm…

Wrong

Wrong. Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, WRONG!

He didn’t deserve to feel this at peace. Not after what he’s done.

Somethings not right-

He forces his eyes open trying to survey his surroundings only to find blurry blotches of color around him.

Wha-?

He takes his free right arm, his left having a mysterious weight holding it down, and rubs his eyes furiously to try and clear his line of sight.

Where the hell was he?!

——————

Scott was doing the best he could to hunt down this dumb rabbit. It’s not his fault all the game in Oakhurst keeps changing!

It’s been several months, (16 according to Ren), since he got rid of the old residents of town. It was peaceful those first few months with no humans, going and hunting with ease.

Unfortunately the humans had returned eventually, trinkling back through the barrier, group by group, rebuilding the town. Their numbers slowly tripled those of the previous Oakhurst residents, now a much larger population and force to be reckoned with. Ren had however secured a place of power in the town.

He was elected as the mayor.

Ren was not very keen on fulling the role he was appointed, insisting he was unfit and was only given it due to living in Oakhurst the longest. But Scott and his pack alike had urged him to take the role.

Imagine the power they could have over the town. Access to livestock, the comings and goings of the people, their weapon supply. All that info would be useful to both the coven and the pack. He also had no problem with managing the members of his pack, what difference would herding a couple humans make?

Besides, if he really didn’t want it, Scott would be more than willing to scoop in to take it once his coven had grown and matured.

So Ren agreed to take the role, however, he insisted to the town once he found a more suitable person for the position he would step down.

That day never seem to came.

Ren was a good mediator for the townsfolk. He led meetings, helped out their front to rebuild farms and build an agriculture center, and lent out a hand no matter the situation or how he felt about the person.

Including Scott.

The werewolf was persistent that he would help Scott hunt at night additionally with his daily donation of meat to the castle. Ren would ramble on about his meat stock getting low with all his hustling around town. Apologizing on how his donations had been getting smaller and smaller.

Scott honestly had no idea what he was on about. Yes, he had noticed the quantity drop, but the meat simply being gifted was more than generous enough, and Scott could fend for himself.

But the company and help was nice nonetheless. Especially with these rabbits! There seemed to be an abundance of them with spring arriving.

The stupid hare Scott was after kept on ducking under tree roots out of Scott’s reach. It had now run into a hollow log after escaping a solid swipe from Scott that ripped off some of its fur. He almost had it!

He leaped to the top of the other side of the log, claws hovering above the exit where the rabbit would surely dart out off. All he had to do now was stay still, calm, and aler-

A shiver ran down Scott spine as he felt a lively tug on his broods bond. He didn’t care about the hare darting from his view while panic and distress flowed through the channel coming from one of his fledglings.

Someone was awake. And they were fully conscious at that.

A bark snapped him out his thoughts. Ren was now in front of him, bowed down in a playful pose akin to a dog, his tail wagging feverishly as it brushed up against a tree trunk. The wolf had also appeared to caught the rabbit Scott was after, the hare now resting in Ren’s jaws.

“My apologies Ren, but we’re cutting tonights hunt short. I have to return to the castle as soon as possible,” one of his fledglings had awakened and he wasn’t there, “ something’s….happened back at the castle that needs my immediate attention.”

Ren, not getting the vibe of the situation, drops the prey and trots next to Scott, seemingly trying to follow him back.

Scott huffs amusingly at the display at first, but the amusement slowly morphs into an annoyance.

Did he honestly not think Scott could fend for himself?

“I appreciate your concern Ren, but your assistance is not needed as of now. I assure you nothing is going on in the castle that is life threatening. I don’t mean to stop your hunting or nightly activities, I can trust you can continue on your own without me, yes?”

Maybe it was a bit mean, but his fledgling’s first sight shouldn’t be a slobbery wolf. (No offense Ren)

The wolf whines at his words, but huffs and turns back irregardless towards the direction of town, leaving Scott alone in the forest.

Good.

Now to deal with the problem at hand.

Scott set a brisk pace towards the castle hoping that whatever was going on could hold off until he got back. He quickens his pace as he feels a pang of anger and annoyance coming from Owen.

What in the world were they up to?!

——————

After some blinking, Pyro’s vision clears out and he’s able to finally take in his surroundings. He’s in a dark medium sized cobbled brick room. He can see a bookshelf and several unlit torches mounted to the wall along with other miscellaneous furniture scattered in the room. The most important to note was the wide bed in the middle of the room that he and two other unconscious people beside him were laying on.

Did… did Scott put them here?

He tries to move only to find his body grossly entangled with the two others beside him. Both were seemly content on holding him close, pulling him in whenever he tried to pull away.

He recognizes one of them, their red hair and wooly green jumper was so familiar. He sits up, finally freeing his right arm, and places one on his forehead to help him concentrate. Come on Pyro think!

The man on Pyro’s left apparently didn’t like all of Pyro’s sudden movements, letting out a low growl at Pyro from his spot in the bed.

What!?

Pyro let out a panicked whine as the long haired man shuffled towards him, determined to reach Pyro despite his wobbly crawl over.

Welp, he was dead now. He enjoyed the couple, minutes? Days? Whatever time from the lake to now realizing he wasn’t dead, but hey, his luck had to have ran out eventually.

Maybe thinking he was about to die was jumping to conclusions, but the route there made sense.

This man wanted Pyro for whatever reason. The most people ever wanted out of him was for his death, and that growl from earlier obviously had no good intention in it, (there was also nowhere in this small room that this man just wouldn’t follow, even if he ran). Henceforth, why he was about to meet his maker.

He shut his eyes, bracing for whatever was to come, only to be greeted with a groggy voice and hands curling around his waist.

“Stay sill… sop moving…”

What?

The man then let out a purr, nuzzling up to Pyro. The shock of it all caused Pyro to stop his spiraling.

On top of that, a sudden wave of warmth hit his mind, making everything foggy. What was he thinking about again? He knew it was something important he had to remember! The purring was messing with his thoughts! It’s very hard to think when you’re tired.

His eyes slowly drifted down to the bed below him. Suddenly, the silk sheets and blankets below seem really heavenly to lay his head down on, just for a sec!

It’s probably not the best to fall asleep in foreign places, let alone with strangers, but Pyro doesn’t think he could leave the bed if he tried. Besides, a quick nap would do him wonders in being able to think clearly again.

He lets out a yawn, letting himself plop back down into the bed. The two others flock to his sides cuddling up closer once more, both purring loudly at his return. He doesn’t mind, it honestly makes it more warm and comfy to lay here.

He unknowingly joins the purring, doing so contently with the strangers as falls back into his slumber.
