Centrifugal Motion

Summary:

“Is he your boyfriend?” The child of the pit bull’s family asks.

She’s sitting off to the side in a light blue folding chair, and Samira guesses she can’t be older than fourteen. Her big blue eyes watch Jack as her left foot bounces impatiently for her father to return from the car with the dog's extra leash.

The mother looks embarrassed and opens her mouth to apologize, but Samira is quick to reassure her.

“He wants to be.” Samira smirks and licks another chunk of cookie dough in her mouth. “I’m taking my time to decide.”
“You can do that?” The teenager looks uncertain. “The boys at my school are so impatient.”

Notes:

I feel Faith Hill in this Mohabbot Chili’s today. The title of this drabble is from her song “This Kiss”.

I’m still reeling from episode 7 and trying to write ten fics at once because those two have fueled me for the next five years. I hope everyone has the best Monday celebrating!

Also, just have to add, I was in the middle of posting this when Shawn posted his Mohabbot Monday tweet OMG!!!

Here is a quick snapshot of a casual first date between them, highly influenced by the fact that I woke up to snow this morning.

Happy reading!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

As far as first dates go, Samira’s never had her date ignore her for someone else.

Now, as she watches him place his back towards her and move away from their spot. Samira decides she can accept the reason why he left her behind in the first place and tries to limit her jealousy.

She lounges, alone, on a picnic bench.

Her eyes are covered by sunglasses, and her hands are holding not one, but two ice cream cones.

Her cookies and cream scoops are struggling in the heat and about to melt down her right arm.

His cookie dough chunks mixed in vanilla ice cream rest in her left hand and continue to be scooped into her awaiting mouth by her tongue.

Jack is currently sprinting after a dog, or more specifically, a pit bull, around the grass area that the ice cream shop they decided to visit leaves open to the public.

A family brought the pup over to an empty picnic table, focused on tying the dog to the leg of the table before ordering their sweets. They gasped loudly from their place in line behind Jack and Samira, and ran as a group towards the leash once it suddenly came undone while Samira and Jack received their order at the counter.

Without any hesitation and simply going off the shocked gasps, Jack thrust his ice cream cone into her free hand and slipped his wallet and car keys into her back pocket before Samira had a moment to realize what had just transpired.

“Be right back!” He exclaimed, and then he was gone, chasing after the dog and keeping her significantly distracted enough so she didn’t run into the parking lot or away into the woods.

It’s a sweltering day in August, so Samira watches his pale skin closely, eyes scanning over his usual relaxed combo as it is slowly soaked in sweat. He swore to her in the car that the black t-shirt he wore, which she had glanced at in concern due to the tightness she could see stretched across his biceps, was an extra special one.

Samira’s pretty sure that just means it doesn’t have any holes from his nails anxiously ripping at the bottom before and after shifts.

“Someone once told me slow and steady wins the race,” Samira shrugs, and holds back a laugh at the way the girl’s eyebrows crease together in confusion. “I’m seeing how it goes.”

She opens her mouth to question Samira, clarify what she means by that. But her father distracts the group by sprinting back from the car and waving at Jack, extra leash in hand.

Jack nods in understanding, and the crowd watches on as Jack darts out and gently grabs the pup. She barks and growls at his interruption of her playtime and is distracted enough that the father manages to latch the extra leash with a click.

“Oh, he got her!” The girl smiles at Samira before running towards her father to pet the dog and check to make sure she’s ok.

The mother looks at Samira gratefully, “That was very kind of him. Thank you both for the help.”

Samira waves her goodbyes, heart warmed to see their family less stressed and finally able to walk up to the counter and place their ice cream orders. The workers in the shop smile at the pup and work on making her a pup cup after her adventure.

Jack walks back glowing, his smile wide and curls skewed in every direction.

Samira smirks at him when he leans forward, and his arms move up to cage her in from where she rests on the picnic table.

He leans in, eyes closing the way they normally do before he goes to capture her lips with his.

She watches him and raises the remaining ice cream cone up to swipe it quickly down his nose, covering the bridge in white cream and dark cookie chunks.

His eyes open in surprise, and he pulls back. “Cold! This is how you reward my hard work? A brain freeze, and you ate my sugar cone?”

He moves forward to wipe his nose on the side of her face, and Samira leans away, back pressing into the picnic table. “Jack Abbot, don’t you dare!”

“I know better.” He smirks and grabs a napkin out from where she has them crushed in between her thighs to prevent them from flowing in the wind.

He wipes his nose and looks mischievously at Samira, then he quickly leans forward before she has a chance to move and licks a thick line up her melting cookies and cream cone. “Mmm, now I understand. It tastes better when it’s yours.”

“I want to try,” She admits, eyes fixated on the way he licks his lips to clean them.

She leans up to press her mouth firmly to his, enjoying the way his hands grab her jaw and pull her close.

Their lips are sticky, and Jack laughs into the kiss, delighted by the way her fingers tangle tightly in his hair to keep him from running off again. “What do you think?”

“Mmm,” Samira licks her lips, and a shy smile sneaks onto her face. “I think you’re right. Mine is better.”

Jack lets out a full belly laugh and holds out a hand to pull her up. “Come on, let’s go get me another cone since you can’t control yourself.”

“Cookies and cream this time?” Samira teases and tangles her hand with his as she rises.

He sighs and pretends to consider it. “Only if you promise to share.”

Samira crosses her fingers behind her back with her free hand as she looks at him innocently. “Now, where’s the fun in that?”

Notes:

Thank you so much for reading and the continued support!

According to a recent survey of 5,000 Americans, New Jerseyans are America’s biggest “ice cream connoisseurs” and Samira is very much proud of that title.

Until next time! :)
