Hanahaki Disease (thiam ver.)

Summary:

Liam Dunbar decides to confess his feelings to his friend Theo Raeken, but something prevents him from doing it so and now every time he remembers it he coughs up bloody sakura petals and doesn't know why.

Notes:

english is not my first language and i originally wrote this in spanish so forgive my bad translation, and also, i made this in my very big teen wolf obsession phase and cried when i wrote it so, grab some tissues!

also, a little disclaimer for who doesn’t know:
The hanahaki disease is a fictional illness that talks about of when the victim of unrequited or one-sided love begins to vomit or cough up the petals of a flowering plant growing in their lungs.
A flower begins to sprout in the patient's lungs, feeding on all the negative feelings such as rejection, hopelessness, and heartbreak that the patient experiences for the other person. The patient believes, is certain, or is confident that their feelings will be, or are, rejected.
It lasts up until the victim dies, or the only way to save them is for the feelings to be reciprocated (these feelings cannot be feelings of friendship, they need to be feelings of genuine romantic love) or for the plants to be surgically removed.
In the case of surgical removal, the roots of the plants growing in the lungs are cut through an operation, but this also has the effect of eliminating the patient's capacity to feel romantic love. It can also erase the patient's feelings and memories for the person they are in love with, and in the worst cases, the patient may never feel anything again.
Other symptoms of Hanahaki can include fever, uncontrollable tremors, loss of appetite, low body temperature, and hallucinations.
The plants that sprout from the patient's lungs can vary, ranging from their favorite flower to one that is the favorite color of the person they are in love with.

Chapter 1: Liam Dunbar

Chapter Text

Liam had decided to confess his feelings to Theo, but he was afraid, like really afraid.

He was afraid of losing him, of losing everything they had built together over the past year. Their entire friendship and trust were at risk because of two simple words and Liam's decision: "I like you".

That's what Liam wanted to say because he not only liked him, he really truly loved him. And even though he was afraid, he would take the risk; Liam just hoped his love would be reciprocated.

He went to look for Theo at the place where he knew he parked his truck (which was also where Theo lived, since he was too stubborn to accept the room Liam had offered him).

The thing is, that when he got to the parking spot he found nothing was there, nor his truck, nor him. Liam thought that he must have gone out, Theo was always moving and rooming through the town.

He started looking for him all over Beacon Hills until he found him, he saw Theo in a coffee shop and ran inside to find him. Between his nerves, excitement, and fear, he greeted him by shouting his name. Theo turned to look at him and smiled, Liam took that as a good sign, he was all happiness and smiley faces, but his smile started to fade when he saw someone else at the table with Theo.

It was a girl, Tracy Ste-something, Liam had seen her at school with Hayden, Liam's best friend.

"Hey Li, it's great to see you here. I want to introduce you to someone. This is Tracy Steward. She's... she's my girlfriend" Theo said casually, though the last part sounded a bit hesitant. Liam didn't notice.

His world froze. That last phrase kept repeating in his mind: "She's my girlfriend." It echoed over and over like a broken record in slow motion.

Liam felt a sharp pain in his chest, it hurt so much, like someone was tearing all his organs apart. So this is what a broken heart felt like, right?

Despite that, he forced a smile. Theo was his friend, and he should be happy for him. But then... why did it hurt so much?

"I'm happy for you guys. But well, I have to get home, I left without telling anyone, and my parents must be worried" he said with a forced smile, and without waiting for a reply, he left; he sprinted across the tables and got out of the coffee shot in record time although he was trying to remain calm.

Once he was out of sight, he started running. He ran and ran until he got home, his chest was aching, tears were welling up, and his breath was coming in short bursts; he felt like he might die.
