The ringing is replaced with a heavy pounding. It may be soothing but it’s too fast and too irregular. It’s broken. Broken. Broken. Broken.
“Overriding flight controls.”
Broken like Peter will be, because Tony failed. Because Tony is failing him. Because Howard was right and Tony is a fucking failure.
Tony feels solid ground under his feet as the suit collapses around him.
Without the support of the suit, his knees buckle and he collapses.
There’s a loud (loud, loud, loud, everything is so loud) metallic clang behind him. Some clicking noise and then a voice.

“I’m sorry,” Stiles said immediately, before Derek could even open his mouth. “I totally would have called sooner, but we’ve spent the last few hours cleaning up—”
“Are you okay?” Derek asked urgently.
“I—yeah, yes, I’m fine.”
Derek didn’t need to hear his heartbeat to know that Stiles was lying through his teeth.
“Video call,” he demanded. “Now.”
“Derek—”
“I’m not asking.”
Someone in the background laughed and said, “Ooh, your hubby’s mad.”

Stiles travels for work for the first time since Derek and Eli moved in. One highly stressful week later in which Derek slowly drives himself (and baby Eli) insane, torn between knowing that Stiles can take care of himself and has a good team and wanting to protect Stiles anyway, they finally address the little life they've been building together. Kind of.

“Protecting my country seems like a better use of my time than sticking around this town doing fuck all.”
Theo’s eyes glanced almost frantically around the dugout, looking anywhere except at Liam. “What do you want me to say? Tell you not to go? Beg you to stay? You know me better than that. If you wanna do something stupid, that’s on you.”
If their roles were reversed, Liam would’ve done just about anything to keep Theo around.

"I would’ve been here earlier, but nobody thought it would be smart to call the one person who’s intimately dealt with the Nogitsune before, so,” Stiles said bitterly as he threw his hands up. "Now I have a list of asses I gotta kick over this very avoidable fiasco. Scott’s first, since he’s the Alpha—I’m pretty sure that’s how that works. His responsibility, or whatever.”
The familiar sound of Derek’s car pulling into the driveway caught Eli's attention, and he grinned. “Is Dad on your list?”
“Hell yeah, Dad is on my list! Right under Scott.”
“Well, he just got home, so—”
Stiles didn’t wait to hear the rest of the sentence before stomping off in the direction of the living room—and Eli quickly scrambled to follow him, ready to eavesdrop on what was likely going to be a rather impressive and amusing lecture.
